Is XDefiant Any Good at Launch? | (Initial Impressions & Feedback)

XDefiant is now live and while it had a rough start with big matchmaking issues, those have now been resolved so today, I wanted to share my early, initial impressions of the full game as well as some basic feedback. What are your thoughts on XDefiant now that the servers are working properly?

The slow exp for guns is a feature to sell future "convenience" boosts. Its a free to play game and this is the normal strategy. Make the normal grind hard in order to frustrate you into paying for "convenience".

Aside from dying around corners and some hit detection I think it’s a fun game. Ttk is a little long and mouse input still feels “floaty” to me but I am enjoying the simplicity of the game. It just wants you to play it. Not spend forever in menus and shops to bloat your “play time”

I'm on PS5 and I can access the practice mode only through my console home screen. There is an option to go right into practice zone but I can't access it if I try to access it from the game.

The best way I can describe the connectivity issues in gunfights is like this. It’s as if in a fight where you shoot and receive 3 hit markers, the enemy will kill you and still have about 79 health remaining. It feels as though some of my bullets just disappear or drop drastically in damage.

So many times I've absolutely dominated gun fights, just to get killed and the enemy still has 100hp. Also, where you get the kill, but not the credit, not even an assist and the credit goes to someone else. I don't understand that at all. It's usually when you are really far away using an SMG, getting hits, score markers are showing and they die, but no credit.

@@cesargranada6194 yeah there is a drastic change in k/d, with crossplay on it was hovering around 0.6 and without it, it was in the range of 1.2-1.5. From my experience it's almost impossible to kill a conosle guy up close due to their aim bot

@@kurokaen1234I got it to feel much better to the point where I quite like it and was getting used to it in the few hours I played last night. I play on 5/5 in CoD on dynamic response curve. I found that 20-25 on this game with a slight reduction in aiming sensitivity with the response s curve feels just about as close as could be possible for this game. I will say aim assist is so strong that you might even want to tone it down to make it feel more like CoD

Never played the beta. This game felt to me EXACTLY like BF4 when it came out. That was the time the community started to talk about hit detection, lag, latency, server tick rate, etc etc. XDefiant brought back ALL those horrible memories. Dying behind corners (not because of bullet penetration), kill trades, dying instantly, TTK varying even though I use the same weapon on the same distance and hitting on the same places. On top of that, even the aim assist seems to follow not the enemy model of some of the enemies but an afterimage, essentially hindering me from even aiming properly. And don't get me started on some enemies, jumping out of corners and being immune to bullets. Played some rounds yesterday and a couple today. Won't touch it again until a patch is out and if this continues like this, it will be a fast uninstall. As for the rest, yes the grind is too much. And the community used to destroy BF2142 for having both teams use the same characters. In this one we get 5 total characters on both teams... That was very lame in my opinion. It's not about visually spotting the enemy anymore. It's about if he's red color or not.

EXACTLY, I just commented that. Like you should have won the fight, but they have 100hp still and they aren't even libratad. At this point I'm time, I'm reporting these players on because I've stumbled on a discord selling infinite health cheats for XD. A brand new discord but it's got thousands of customers already. They have infinite health, infinite vision goggles, infinite ultras/abilities and infinite grenades for sale. They also had "infinite hotshot speed".. I've only ran into 2 obvious cheaters, but if I see that the same person has 100hp after unloading on them, more than one instance, I'll report them. Either way, it gets someone in house to look at the gameplay and if it's not cheats, maybe the will find a fix for it.

As someone who got tired of CoD a couple years ago and plays exclusively Apex as far as FPS games go, the game feels incredible. I think the people complaining about shooting players and not killing them but then getting melted instantly just are not used to actually aiming for headshots in every gun fight. The damage multiplier on the weapons in the game reward accuracy much more than normal CoD multiplayer. With that being said, there are certainly some desync issues getting shot when you’re seemingly around corners but If anything that should lead to players getting more kills not shots “not registering”. Another ting I’ve noticed is guns don’t perform as well when they are not being used as they are intended. I think this is intentional and done for balancing. After 10-12 hours of game play I can say w confidence using a MP5 at a distance is a severe disadvantage in terms of damage rather than cod were the damage drops only 2-5 points further than 20-30 meters, it falls significantly outside of its intended range. I believe this also is a reason players are complaining about TTK/TTD. If you are shooting an MP5 at a player 35 meters away and not hitting headshots, and he is using an AK and hitting headshots of course it’s gonna FEEL like you did more damage and should’ve won but realistically the other player had the correct gun for the engagement and was just more accurate. Not to mention, different players have progressed their weapons at different rates so until you level up your weapons, even facing a player w the same weapon from the same distance, they may simply just be better equipped for the fight bc they have more/better attachments. lastly, this game actually has recoil on guns and to be accurate, learning how to correctly counter it with each weapon is important. Sure, CoD guns have “recoil” but it can be corrected with minor movements/ attachments and be almost non existent compared to a game like apex and seemingly this game where just slightly holding down while shooting is not gonna cut it. Therefore, I hate to say it… but I think y’all are just not used to the gun play being an actual skill. Last but not least, this game has its own specific sensitivity settings that apply to the game. I recommend players tweak their settings to find the feel you are looking for bc just putting your sensitivity that you use on CoD means nothing in this game. Make some of these changes and I promise this phenomenon of bullets not registering will go away soon

gun play could use some polishing, the hit reg felt off at times and the snipers shots are delayed sometimes if you zoom out. other than those issues i think it can be solid to hold a good playerbase and im excited to see what happens in a few months.

Definitely noticed the sniper shot thing. You could be performing an action that you are unable to shoot when it feels like you should be able too, but if you pull the trigger it will fire at the next available moment which can be up to what feels like half a second later. Very odd

There is one issue I noticed and I think I know why, but some of the challenges and camos I unlocked back in the Open Session, actually carried over into the full game. For example, I didn’t had to get long shots for the ACR, it was automatically unlocked when I boot up the game, and I have Bronze Camo unlocked for my AK when it was level 1. I assume this happened because the Application they used for the full game is the exact same one from the Open Session and when they updated the application, they accidentally carried some of the stuff we unlocked during the Open Session into the full game.

Things that can be improved/I am nitpicky on: -Gun play feels a little off. Aiming can be a bit stiff on controller (I will have to mess around with my settings tho). I also get shot around the corner a lot and gun damage seems inconsistent (as many have said, I shoot someone 5 times and then they kill me in 3 bullets and they're apparently at 87% health or something, may just be the connection). -Also, not a big fan of the Hero abilities (I didn't like them in BO4 either). I can't tell you how many times I spawn and instantly get shown through the walls by the Sonar Goggles or how many times I'm shooting someone only for them to bring up the shield and now I can't shoot them, but they can shoot me easily. I hate abilities that changes gunfights to the opponent's advantage with little to no skill and it's completely out of my control. -Movement is fine for the most part. However, and this may be nitpicky, but why can't we go prone? -Spawns are fine, better than CoD. However, I think in the Occupy game mode (this game's hardpoint), the spawns are determined by who is on the hardpoint. Idk if it is like this in CoD too, but it just sucks that the enemy team can be like a hundred or two hundred points ahead, and they keep occupying the zone because they are on it. :/ Maybe I'm just being nitpicky. -Menus can use some work. Idk why when I am loaded into the main lobby, it takes me three tab switches to reach my loadout. However, it only takes one to reach the battlepass. :| Also, when in the menus for guns, there are no numerical stats, only bars. The attachments show how much of a percentage it changes stats, but what's the point of showing how much of a percentage the attachments change stats when there are no clear numerical values to reference? -This is also nitpicky but I would like to be able to mark a location for my teammates, like in CoD and Battlefield. Despite all these, I actually did have fun with the game. It definitely needs some work (and honestly, I don't think it will be that big of a competitor to CoD, or even be a "CoD killer"), but there is a lot of fun to have with the game. If there are actual solutions to my criticisms above, please let me know.

Fun fact: to access practice zone in ps5 go to the ps5 menu and go to the cards of xdefiant (go down until you see "activities"). Youll see practice zone as one of the cards there and access it from there

For me, it was horrible. Hitting enemies and then got killed by the same enemy after a few shots. I tried a few rounds. But unfortunately, many rounds were the same. And the weapon xp takes too long. I got so frustrated that I deleted the game. If it gets better, I'll try it again.

The D50 pistol is so broken. I land direct hits, and it almost never registers. The ults charge up wayyyyy to slow for a fast paced game. The matchmaking is okay, could be better. I am tired of being put with players who have no intention of playing OBJ though. And yes, the weapon XP is ridiculously slow. I've played for 10 hours, and my highest gun is the P90 at level 7

Biggest issue is by far the weapon xp earn rate. The game will die hard if people can’t customize a single gun the exact way they want without grinding just that gun for 15+ hours

That’s a bit of a exaggeration you must be trying a lot of different guns , I personally stuck with one gun and it’s already level 30 and can use just about every attachment in the game with only 4 hours of game time

I probably used one gun for about 2 hours total with an hour of double xp tokens and got it to lvl 13 or so. That’s my best estimate but really don’t know for sure. All I know is when I finish an entire match and my gun didn’t go up a single level, it’s very large motivation to quit

@@komahowe4443 advanced stats exist, ACR and AK are very clearly the top guns that boast the best overall accuracy, TTK, and range. The smgs and ARs have very comparable TTKs at point blank range so I wouldn’t even bother using smgs over ARs right now. I like to be a little different than most people though, so I’m messing around with the M60 because it’s just fun

It felt to me like the initial matchmaking slowdown came from people bailing out of lobbies, because you have to be in a lobby to tweak your guns. (If there IS a way to do it, like in the Practice Zone, then the UI doesn’t make it clear.)

The Leveling of weapons does feel pretty brutal. Hopefully they tweak that because its not fun running around with a stock weapon and a sight for as long as it feels.

Not that anyone is going to see this feedback and act on it, but I'll throw my $0.02 in here. Netcode is easily the worst I've ever played on any game. I suspect it's been connecting me to European servers (I'm in the Midwest US), but can't hard confirm since I just toggled that setting on. TTK id probably move down by a bullet to kill on the majority of primaries, 1-2 on all secondaries. Netcode is currently doing a lot of talking, but enemies just feel excessively spongy to me. If TTK stays the same, then snipers either need descope on hit or to only OHK on headshots, they're WAY too strong in the current iteration. Also on guns, I feel that hip accuracy needs to go up a bit on ARs, and a LOT on Subs and pistols. Close range just feels awful without hip-fire as an option. CoD nowadays also gets similar complaints, IDK why devs are so afraid of anything being good from the hip anymore. As for movement, slide needs to be faster, bunny hopping needs a nerf, and air strafing needs to be removed. It feels needlessly bouncy, and looks awful. I also suspect it's breaking the netcode more than current. I'd also look at making abilities weaker across the board, and changing at least a couple of the passives. There's a lot of really annoying and ultimately super disruptive stuff in here.

I've literally had phantom hitmarkers on multiple occasions and it's easy to tell with playing the cleaners since they get incendiary ammo, which as far as I'm concerned, should trigger with every hit. Died behind cover a lot... die instantaneously... yea. I'm now full aware of what people mean from the playtests that the netcode is rough. That's about my biggest gripe with the game so far. Fun... but the constant inconsistency with the fights is certainly getting frustrating.

A weird way to get around the practice mode issue, at least on PS5, is from the playstation 5 home screen press start activity on the practice mode option while the game is already booted up. For some reason I've been able to load into it and try out weapons that way.

Definitely enjoying the game and agree with everything you said one thing i would love for them to add is headshots longshots you know that kind of stuff to unlock camos i know they probably don't want to take everything from cod but just using a weapon for levels and attachments only i find a little bit boring

i recommend the linear mode with the capture points for xp in general. It's a ton of fun and there's lots of time and opportunities to get challenges done and whatnot

I've for sure had games where I'm dying in 2 shots and it seems like I have to dump a whole mag into a guy to kill them. Also Im getting some weird sensitivity things happening. If Im shooting and I un ADS and then ADS again my aim will shoot either up or down dpending on which way Im trying to adjust. Never had this happen in any other game except this one. Not sure if its a bug or a setting issue

There is a fine line between the movement being over responsive and not responsive enough. So far, I’m struggling to find that sweet spot with my settings where it feels I’m doing what I’m actually trying to do.

My only problem is the ADS sensitivity on console, it feels like it makes me overshoot my aim when i get super close or shoot at range. Not sure if the aim assist slowdown is wonky or the ads multiplier is not working properly

If you’re still playing around with settings, try reverse s-curve. It feels way more natural to me, and I don’t use dynamic on cod. The connectivity for me has been better than the first few weeks of CoD. I get hit by a shot around the corner maybe 1 in 3 matches

Im really enjoying xdefiant and the only annoying thing is the time it takes to level up weapons.my friends in asia havent been able to play cod because of the shitty servers so it was fun to play xdefiant without any issues.

I have to say without killcam it is hard to determine if certain deaths are justifiable. Also, the amount of in progress games I join is ridiculous, and it's always on the losing team! * turning crossplay off seems to help with this issue. As a side note, I wish they specified whether or not it was a headshot death or not as they are really powerful in this game, but you don't know if you died by them or bad connection etc ** just realised it does tell you when you die by HS, just not in the killfeed

Generelly enjoying the game yup. Havnt played much though, my time is limited through this summer (typically max 2 hours in the evening), and that brings me to the concern mentioned by Ace: the time it takes for attatchments. Within a few weeks it will be a “casual unfriendly game”, where the hard grinders will have max weapons efficency, and the casuals will get the short end of the stick.

Thankfully because this game is free I can check it out whenever I feel like I'm in the mood to check it out. Right now CoD has completely burnt me out from wanting to play FPS games so at the moment I don't feel like playing XDefiant but maybe I will down the line.

I remember that in the shooting range quite a few guns, had a weird "bleeding" effect. Like the short did 25 damage and that for 4 more ticks the target recieved each 2 damage. I don't know if it is/was just something in the shooting range or even in game.

8:40 SAME, although as I start to UNLOCK NEW GUNS, this "Controller not feeling right" thing is DIFFERENT FROM GUN TO GUN, some guns feel super smooth, some feel like I'm fighting my Controller to Aim w/ them.... I ended up on 38/38 Sensitivity haven't messed w/ the 2 multipliers yet.

Personally I am LOVING XDefiant so far! Every match is just so much fun, and my few complaints are pretty minor. I do think the weapon leveling is a bit slow and that's probably to encourage buying XP boosts, but honestly if that's the price we have to pay for this game being F2P, I can live with it. I'm just so excited to keep playing, when I'm not playing I'm thinking about it and that's always a great sign for a game.
