I have a dedicated anti-riotshield build I switch to anytime somebody is using one. I'm running the underbarrel drill launcher on my primary, soulrender as my secondary, Demolition vest with shock sticks and thermites, and then the ammo box so I can keep restocking as needed. In the vast majority of cases the riot shielder eventually gets so annoyed by me hard countering them that they just switch to another class lol.

I have a similar setup with a hipfire SMG build using that breacher device that improves hipfire, but I swap the Bruen Bastion underbarrel for the flamethrower. I used to use the RGL as my secondary, but now I usually use the Soul Render. Same demolition vest, shock sticks, and thermites.

Same. Sometimes I use thr medieval setup of Sticks n Stones. Boombolts, muni, soul render, thermites, restock, shocks, and then the standard gear setup for Boots,Gloves,Others. Jugg counter? Drills, Riot shield resupply. Drills, unless changed, do the MOST DAMAGE overall. Dbl stick. Riotshield negates their entire setup. And because they are slower than average, you can keep distance really easily. Even while crouched.

I feel like if they made it so when you put the shield on your back, it folds, and a lot of people's complains would disappear. I would personally have it fold up like it is in the gunsmith screen. Once you switch, it opens up like a deployable cover, and then when you unequip it, it folds up so it doesn't give you that back protection or at least not as much.

My favorite counter is the thermite since it’s fast, you can throw it from a distance, and you can still use it for objectives if needed. They still need to think of a way to nerf turtling though

Personally I'd just remove it from the game. Assuming that isn't an option I would make it so overkill and gunner are not selectable and limit the choice of secondary weapons to the handguns, no melee and no launchers. Of all of the scenarios including the turtle pack the one I find least irritating is it + pistols since they generally use the pistols and in most scenarios that having a pistol for your ranged weapon is a notable disadvantage (maybe not hardcore or with akimbo revolvers on Shipment) I think I would also be fine with a scenario where the shield has some kind of health meter and when that meter depletes it auto swaps the shielder to their secondary and prevents them from swapping back for some amount of time. Oh and it should disable prone entirely, even on the back.

​@@overnowMake it deployable, when you have it in your back, it will be retracted, so no protection at all. When you want to use it, it deploys and protects you as normal. That way turtling is dead for good without removing the shield

I tend to load with a Semtex but if there’s a riot shield crouching person on the game I change to a thermite next death. Works lovely. :)

Riot shield is so situational, it’s honestly so easy to counter. Sometimes they’ll have you beat if you’re cornered, but that’s their W if they get you there.

I think it’s fine other than the turtle effect when it’s on their back. Trying to shoot their feet with how little damage leg shots provide can be frustrating on smaller maps like shipment where you quickly need to move onto other targets

Flamethrower is a decent one too. It’s not as quick as the lethal grenades but is more forgiving if you miss. It also makes them panic/throws them off which is nice

Yes, when you do this, there's a moment where the drill explosion direction isn't facing the character, so the enemies won't die.

My biggest issue is with people running it on their backs still. And I don't always even mean on the enemy team (Though it sucks having to spray their legs if you're chasing them.) since they still haven't changed the factor of it acting as a non surface for teammates as well. On top of being a pain in the ass to see around, if you're in a situation where they spawn, run ahead or are simply ahead of you in general. You can end up wasting shots that ping off their riot shield while trying to go for either the same guy or someone next to them. I've gotten stack killed in corridors because I couldn't hit a guy in front of because of that shield. The Riot shield is annoying to go up against sure enough, but we've never had a shortage of things to kill them with. Or at least a lethal piece of equipment that hasn't been adored by the general player base as much as the Semtex. For me it's just controller breaking frustration when someone's running it primarily on their back on your own team. I cannot express it properly.

@@dooder126 The choice of adding player collision sometime MW2019 and MW2 baffles me in the first place. I don't remember it being present in 2019 or Cold War. I skipped Vanguard. I also don't really see the point of playing "Turtle" I did it for a while when I did nothing but shipment because I was bored and just wanted to grind out my tokens in MW2, but I didn't feel like I actually died any less with it than without it so I ditched it. Especially after the frustrations I found myself feeling from other people doing the same. Player collision on teammates is just... It's a good thing you can eventually nudge people around, otherwise people would be able to actively grief teams and just trap people places. But yeah there's no good reason for team level player collision to be in game, or at least in core modes.

It's just great when you spawn in behind someone running the shield, either door camping or AFK, inside one of the containers on shipment. Always fun to try and bunny hop your way out before someone tosses in a thermite.

@mjfj82 Most of these counters ace talk about are neutralized because they run trophy systems and trying to melee a shield is not easy unless the shield player is an absolute bot. So you are forced to run the sword and then if you do they just swap to throwing knife.

There are just the right amount of counters to shields. I made a reddit post not long before you released this video explaining that there are a ton of ways to kill them. People flamed me lol it was great. Adding more counters to the riot shield would make using one a lot less viable, and I think in its current state, the riot shield is perfectly balanced. Like snipers or any other one hit weapon, it will always be annoying to die to, but it doesnt change the fact that there is a place for the riot shield in the game, and plenty of people, me included, use it to help push hard, and win games. I even step in front of teammates who are being shot and try to shield them if I can. Its also super fun to be a distraction while your teammates come in and take the enemy out

Ace, I know in MWII that the drill charge didn't initially work against the riot shield and it took them a while to fix it, so maybe one of the patches since then reintroduced a bug for some people. The Crossbow with explosive or thermite tipped bolts was my favorite riot shield counter in both MW2019 and MWII, but I haven't tried it in MWIII. It used to only require one bolt in those games so maybe the health increase in MWIII had the unintended consequence of those no longer doing enough damage to kill through a shield, and that might be yet another bug they need to fix. My current favorite counters are the two underbarrel attachments you mentioned, being the underbarrel flamethrower and drill charge.

Right now there's zero point of using them and honestly the Longbow and BASB conversion make better shotguns with how balancing has been lately...

My concern is the overall movement speed of riot shield users. Seems they have the same speed as those creepy knifers which reminds me of creepy skateboarders. I’m not sure of the riot shield movement penalty if exist bcos I do not use it. I do know I can not run away from them and I always get caught and bashed from behind.

I put the riot shield on because it somewhat negates the prevalence of wall hackers and aim bots. You can basically tell when someone is aimbotting if they are melting your whole team but have no idea how to counter a player that doesn't die when they make eye contact with them, because they aren't actually good at the game and can't strategize. No lie tho, I love clipping gamer rage. It kinda just feels like people want to turn their brains off to play this game and get really angry when you force them to think beyond arcade shooting. I don't think I've been killed by someone else with a riot shield more than a handful of times.

I see many people using the Thermite which is why I had started using it. I was curious about this though so I am glad I stumbled to your video. Here is my list of things that work. But like some of you off-handed mentions they can be very situational. Javelin...erm JOKR shoulder mounted predator missile. LOL C4 when tossed over their heads. Depending on accuracy this can take two with EOD padding. Mines when you can get them to chase you. EOD can really hurt this method and you need more than one. Speed. I say this because most of them are using the EOD padding as you mentioned and sometimes you can slide by them and melee from behind unless the stick to the corner. Never even considered your Jump counter with throwing knife. To be honest I had forgotten that you melee with knife when it is equipped. I will definitely start using that one.

Usually when stuck with a drill charge, if a shield swaps to his secondary as the charge is igniting the charge will ignore the player and won't kill them in one shot, especially if they use E.O.D. Padding. You'll get the hitmarker for it but will need to do more damage.

On the other note, never forget that if they have a shield on your back and you are close behind them, you can just execute them. It can't always be done successfully, but it's better than shooting/hitting at that shield endlessly if you're close to them.

AP rounds attachment should allow you to deal 15% damage to a riot shield, and the AP rounds field upgrade shpuld let you do full damage through the shield, since like Ace says, its rarely used, and it also requires you to go through a reload animation to activate it on your weapon.

I think they could turn the shield into more of a cosmetic when it's on your back. It'd still be there but wouldn't block bullets. Far as the front, I think there needs to be a health bar to it or a limited time use, like limited ammo on a firearm. Best counter is Thermite by a mile for sure. The AOE of the thermite alone makes it better than the semtex and drill charge. Also, I saw a comment about stopping power rounds and that's a good idea. An ammo type that can break through the shield would be nice. Probably would have to be a limited field upgrade. Edit: a bigger movement penalty while it's not being used it extremely necessary. Force the knifers and meleers in general to watch their back.

The Drill Charge has the chance not to kill a Riot shield is because if they switch out their riot shield during the drill animation, it will fall off the shield and they can run away from it. Where as the Semtex and Thermite stays on them no matter what.

A weird thing is in MWII you can kill a riot shield kid with a single shot of either explosive or thermite bolt. Even if they have the Bomb Squad perk on.

You completely missed the point about riot shield. Countering shield as primary isn't a concern whatsoever, it's those cancers who use it with overkill making it annoying to kill (especially when they prone) while they can just shoot you with primary. Riot shield just shouldn't give you any protection while inactive, that would solve all annoyance without making it worse to use as primary.

The only buff is making it let you hipfire a pistol while holding it. People do not want this outcome, but to keep it balanced it kind of needs it now.

Another reason the thermite is GOAT is because its also an AoE effect to ANY enemy operators in the radius. I am absolute trash with frags and semtex so I just always run thermite, I get a little happy when I see a riot shield in one of my lobbies. :)

The solution is simple. Make it exclusive to the juggernaut recon and Ace drill charges dont always work it'll go right through them and not do anything since mw2. Private matches isnt always going to yield the same results as public matches for this kind of issue

I use the drill charge almost exclusively (unless a daily challenge, etc.) for grenades or semtex. I can confirm that in some occasions the drill charge doesn't kill at least in MP. About 2% spitballing it and have just assumed they have EOD or just a bug. What drives me nuts is with the turtle backs on my team who block my shots, i.e., can't shoot through the riot shield on their back. The frustration is the drill charge, i.e., can throw it right through their turtle back riot shield. Doesn't make sense as it blocks regular shots but not lethals. Bug?

One of the fastest times I've ever clicked on a video the second I saw it. I can't wait to watch. Dealing with Shield players is the worst, do those people even have brains or any feeling of fun? Currently I just have a class with Demolition Vest and Thermites as my main Shield counter. EDIT: After watching, I will definitely be making use of the Flamethrower underbarrel attachment more often, maybe a save a custom mod or two. That combined with the thermite will be a great Shield counter class for me!

Unless they have changed it dropping the riot shield can save you from a stick as long as it was attached to the shield it self And for the “turtles” there all the same outside of two additional things that help killing them are 1st assassinations (that’s why the new sword goes through the shield because it’s works just like them) 2nd the leg crippling rounds due that the legs are usually the only spot available to actually get hits on and the fact they slow and disable them makes it easier to deal with them

Well, you couldn't really carry a lmg and all the rounds, let alone fire one like we do in COD....

Because it is a video game where you respawn after death. A shield which can't do damage outside of melee range and needs multiple hits to kill should tank 200+ bullets since if you have the time to empty this much ammo into them you've had enough time to realize that person is just seeing how smart you are and probably laughing at you since they are just doing nothing.

The 2 crossbow bolts, must be new/MW3 thing, as I racked a lot of kills on shields in MW2 and one bolt was always 100% enough.

They should add a mod for the riot shield that allows you to use a pistol with large hipfire (either by shooting around the shield or a gap in the shield itself)

I don't know about you guys, but i consider the gas grenade almost useless in most of the cases... maybe a slight buff to it would be forcing riot shied users to expose themselves a little bit just like the shock charge does

Counters to the Riot Shield: 1. Under-barrel drill charge, who knew this even existed? I knew of the existence of the saw, the flamethrower, shotgun, and grenade launcher, but not an under-barrel drill charge. I sense a subject for a whole video describing all the different under-barrel attachments; what they do and what they are effective against. 2. Heavy attack and light attack when using the sword, who knew? Is this true for all bladed melee weapons? An explanation of how to perform each would have been useful. I think my ignorance of these weapons will tell you how often I employ them in my game play. Not at all or just to grind a camo for it after which I switch it out of my load out. !

unpopular opinion riot shields are not over powered. the slow play style you have to play with it is enough of a balance imo. but perhaps they can ban it from being used in overkill tho so that players dont run a riot shield/ shot gun combo or any primary weapon.

you can change the riot shield with an gun on the ground when you get semtex sticket or stuff then the sticky grenade will sticvk on the shield :D

I rarely see people calling the shield overpowered. Generally the complaints are that it’s annoying and many feel it doesn’t fit well with the gameplay of CoD and that the game would be better off without it

@TheXclusiveAce maybe I'm biased, because my fiancée can only enjoy playing SnD with us if she uses the shield, and she's not even good. She gets about 1-4 kills per game. And I'd say that 1/3 matches the enemy team spend the whole game complaining about the riot shield

I think with Launchers you forget to mention JOKR. That will kill Riot Shield because of its huge splash damage

Timing is the issue and they can still block the blast if they walk a few steps back and stay crouched while aiming in the general direction. It can defend a direct hit and splash from the cruise missile. Same applies to the JOKR. EOD helps against the splash as well.

I’ve always had the idea that if you have it on your back and get shit from the front, the riot shield should deflect the bullets into the character for damage.
