As a Anna main, oneof the hardest things I had to unlearn is to not chase down your team yo try and heal them whe they're critical health. Because when you do it creates a bad habit for the entire team to expect their supports to come and save them when they're out of position. The hard headed ones will still try and blame you but in reality it's almost never a good play to do so, you might save them but you will almost always die because the enemies see you and focus you down because killing a support is easy more advantage then a dps.
@smellssmell2488Ай бұрын
I love this comment, it reminds me of Overwatch 1. I have a friend who is an Ana main, but doesn't have a house or internet to play anymore. But he would literally heal so much it made me play way too aggressive and ever since I couldn't play with them I've had to re learn how to play. And they are super inexperienced not having played in over a year now, and the game has changed a lot. So if they come over and play, it's usually really rough for them. I have decided that when they come over and play I just want to watch them and give them feedback and also try and help shake off the rust a little bit. But it's definitely tough when you are expected to heal that much. And a lot of people in the community have unrealistic expectations like that.
@mysteriouspresent5186Ай бұрын
@@smellssmell2488 You didnt play OW1 if you think this was the case. People could play SO MUCH more aggressive in OW1 because there was just TONS of heals. Like, the average gold would get like 10k per 10 mins back then. top 500 used to be like 14k+ per 10..? You know what the average is now for gold? around 7k per 10. top 500? Like 6-11k, depending on the support. People SAY 'oh that's cuz there's one less tank' but no; it's because the supports say "Us dpsing is going to be more beneficial than letting our dps/tank fight" now. Happy to give up thousands of heals so that my healers can confirm and help with maybe 5 kills! And instead of like, idk the supports healing more, we're gonna rework the entire game ofc.

They're confused about why they keep losing and falling ranks but they have bad positioning, ability usage, and game understanding. They are so silver they thought someone who just...didn't run straight down mid was a cheater. Consistently trying to sleep an ulting Orisa.....You will not rank out into gold if you don't understand even the basics of the game - how your abilities interact with other heroes, how natural cover and high ground work, and even just the slightest bit of being able to multi-task and reacting faster would help.
@smellssmell2488Ай бұрын
This isn't entirely true. Yeah, their ability usage isn't great, and there positioning is awful. But sometimes things happen and you make bad plays. Especially when you're overwhelmed by a tank that is feeding. I am not going to argue with you about what you said. But you're not helping create a good strong community by pointing out blatantly obvious bs that Emongg is already coaching someone through. You're toxic, and you're part of the problem. Learn to be part of the solution, that's really how you climb in a team based game like overwatch.

@Real_MisterSirАй бұрын
The problem is not the balance between doing damage and doing healing. The problem is hyperfixating on one and neglecting the other, with no real consistency between what gets prioritized when. They hyperfixate on healing their tank when thats the opportunity right in front of them. Then when another opportunity presents itself, they hyperfixate on that. The real art comes not from chosing what to hyperfixate on, but by balancing between both seamlessly at the same time. Go for a shot on the enemy dps, then a shot to your tank to give them some healing -all while you're walking up with the team and being mindful of your own pathing and cover usage. Then take a shot on an enemy out of position, then heal your dps. Then heal your tank, then take another shot at the enemy support, etc etc. You can't just hyperfixate on one thing at a time for a prolonged period, that's how you're suddenly left in narnia while your tank and whole team pushes in and needs your support - while at other times you give them full support while they're at 80% hp and not even pushing the choke yet, meanwhile the enemy has taken 3 different angles cus you were hyperfixating on healing a near full Mauga doing jack all. Fluency of shifting priorities > hyperfixation on any specific priority.

14:02 As someone who is currently stuck in gold, and climbed all the way through bronze and silver. That is 100% an expected hold, and Emongg explained this perfectly. I doubt some people will understand and back up regardless. But when I climbed out of silver, people playing there just made it so much more tough. I climbed out with tank first just because I could survive longer and I would play sigma and poke out to that area while my teammates were out there, I could also throw them a shield if needed. But I remember sweating profusely trying to win a team fight there that was way closer than it should be. And the best part, is because your silver teammates are playing there and have to work way harder too, even if you pop off and win the team fight pretty much by yourself. It was their hard work and that's the reason you won the fight. Meanwhile they aren't hitting a single shot while playing hanzo.
@smellssmell2488Ай бұрын
In gold this is still a strat, but people play borderline worse in gold. They are mechanically better overall, but something about being in gold and plat has given them this mindset that they are "just better" and they try to go in and win fights alone against people who are just as good as they are mechanically. And then that usually ends up losing a teamfight, but it's not their fault of course. It's your fault because you didn't run in with them. This is something that happens in Silver and Bronze too, but in those ranks there is a lot of stuff that is going on making it a lot harder to understand where to start unless you just focus on the basics and play enough games to climb. That's honestly how I got up to gold.
@smellssmell2488Ай бұрын
16:25 Now this is a hold! Sometimes very rarely you'll get gold players to hold like this. I'm honestly not used to this and I can tell most gold players aren't either. Most of the time when a gold team holds like this they just fall over immediately. While I played tank and my team held like that I felt like I was just fighting for my life, but we won most of the fights regardless. It works, and "hide your aggression" part is the best Overwatch coaching I've heard! I haven't ever thought of it like that, but it makes perfect sense. I have a less experienced perception of this, so I usually just say "give them a little more map control" or "let them walk past the choke" and that usually works to make me and my teammates understand how to play like that. It makes it so their team splits up trying to do too much which is when you can win more fights.

In regards to smurfing; I don't know what Blizzard's stance is on the matter, but I would assume they're not exactly keen on it. Having to link a phone number to an account makes me think they'd rather we didn't have multiple accounts. Having multiple accounts is historically not something companies want to encourage. Also playing with low ranked friends in wide groups is not smurfing. Smurfing is using a fresh or low ranked account to get into games well below your skill level. Wide groups attempt to accommodate groups of players with large skill gaps by balancing each team with similar skill ranges. The issue with smurfing is the deceitful nature, wide groups don't have that issue. Alt accounts are often raised as an exception to smurfing and whilst there are situations in which I can agree with this, Overwatch is not really a game where you benefit from having multiple accounts. Of course there are content creators who do bronze to gm Series'. Whilst I do see the logic behind doing this and don't find it deceitful or toxic in general, I also don't think it's very helpful. Watching someone whose skill level is already way above the lower ranks isn't going to help you get out of those ranks. They're just going to breeze through the early games and very quickly get flagged as belonging in a higher rank. Their elo gains and progress will be much faster than other players in those ranks. Personally, I don't see any benefit that smurfing provides to anyone other than an ego boost at the expense of other players. Let everyone have fun, not being amazing at the game doesn't mean that other people don't deserve to enjoy themselves. Not everyone has the time or inclination to take this game as seriously as others, but they should be able to still have fun.
