They added a WOODCUTTING skill to World of Warcraft! (all you need to know) | Project Ascension

Mcdoubles back again with a brand new video and today I want to talk about Project Ascension adding Woodcutting to World of Warcraft, how to woodcut, and everything you need to know to get started, and my general thoughts on what this means for the scene as well as some insight into the Fletching and Player Housing skills that are coming in the future.
I also talk a little bit more about the custom WoW scene towards the end as we woodcut our way through Elwynn Forest and Westfall.

It's a pretty good server but they are kinda milking you to buy the same stuff over and over with the seasons. If you ask me the server was best when it was called awakening years ago

@@magmand yeah.. idk why people play seasonal other than "new stuff". the good parts of the new stuff are put on the Area 52 realm afterward anyways. to reject retail/classic and then go spend hundreds of dollars every season on a private server is just corny. plus, while they don't sell gold directly, you can sell almost anything on the $ shop in the auction house, so practically the same thing. it's a great server, incredibly active and passionate devs, but the shop side of things will be what gives the server a bad name

I want them to add a "wood pyre" to the woodcrafter. It would be an aoe buff that depends on the type/combination of wood and how much wood you chuck on the pile. This would work great if they had some sort of faction league to take over zones for ticks of currency.

Something I discovered today is that woodcutting does not take a profession slot, just like first aid or cooking, so EVERYONE can get in on the tree chopping fun.

I always thought it would be cool if they made a pacifist challenge where you can have more professions and that becomes your main way of leveling, but killing anything would actually stop the achievement because then you're not a pacifist.

Blizzard actually had woodcutting in the Arathi warfront from BFA, but they haven't followed up on it. I could see them adding it to supply resources to a furniture/house building profession and to add wood materials to other profession's recipes.

Nice video thanks. do you know how to create custom Trials with Trial Architect or was that just for the seasonal realm?. I'v seen you can create them but must add an already created trial. It is possible to create a custom trial?

What would be great, ascension going in the same route as new world and allowing people to take all the professions on one character. This could have limitations, like the number of equipped unique crafter items (like the alchemist trinket), maybe 2 maximum ?). Or maybe allowing to take all gathering professions and only 2 crafting professions.

By the looks of it, they are heading to a Sword Art Online concept of skills, professions, player housing. All they are missing now are hidden skills unlocked by doing specific actions. If the Ascension team keeps going towards the open world interactions, they will achieve what the initial wow fantasy was supposed to look like.

TIPP FOR YOUR ELVUI MCDOUBLES: (how to: minimap addon buttons) /ec and go to "Enhanced" - there you can find "Minimap". What you are looking for is the "Minimap Button Grabber" and enable it. These stray icons drove me insane, so i had to fix it or disable the entire interface again. Guess i won :D

What they should do is have an instanced zone for player housing that utilizes the empty structures within the capital cities and require gold expenditures to rent out similar to what they do in New world.

I think it would be really cool to be able to craft staffs, wands, bows and arrows. Enchanting makes like 2 wands so it would be cool for more wands as well as many other things

If they're creating custom relics and idols for the profession, there's really no reason for them to be garbage, other than balancing it with the normal profession crafted gear. Compared to traditional ones, there's no reason to limit it to the shaman, druid, and pally mechanics either. No reason they couldn't make a warrior idol or a mage relic.

Edit: My original comment had fletching as a subset of carving, more I thought on this anyone that thinks you can just carve a bow or arrows does not know anything about archery, I know very little. I posted this same thing in the Ascension Forum. Fletching is too narrow scope for a profession. The profession should be woodworking with specializations of carving and carpentry: carving is more of the artistic products of woodworking and carpentry is more of the technical products of woodworking. Carving could have figurines/totems much like jewel crafting, or some engineering items. Carving could have a little bit of the old enchanting, pre-vellum, in a trade window style, and be limited to the "of ..." / suffix items stats, like it is carving a bear into the item for the "of the Bear" stats. To balance, it would remove any other stat boosts (but leave "chance" and "equip" bonuses), and only be for items with wood, clearly. A similar thing could be added to inscription for non-wood items, for balance. "Unpowered" wands could also be part of carving, and require an enchanter to power them so they can be used. Fletching could be a specialization under carpentry, much like Weaponsmith: mace. Shields would be another specialty of carpentry. Non-combat items could be another carpentry thing, like a canoe if it can be implemented. Chairs and cots could also be a carpentry product that could grant a buff similar to "well fed" being "well rested" (increase to agility and intelligence?) and could remove disease and poison. Have stains or varnish be similar to engineering polishes (more advanced as a carpentry specialization). Screws and nails would be part of some woodworking much like engineering bolts. Marionette puppets could even be similar to engineering mechanical pets, they should require enchanting dust/essences/shards to craft so to animate, and be more debuff/fear based aids than damage. For player housing, carving would be more decorative and carpentry would be furniture. The "Rebirth" Seeds should be a drop from Woodcutting. Symbols and runes could also be a possible product of carving, and possibly items that do the same kind of spells that require woodcutting: carving to use. Maybe they could be unreliable much like the engineering items that mimic spells, or teleport and portals could be random.

I actually worked on a complete proposal for wood cutting and wood working for Turtle WoW (where it fits very well with the slower playstyle) but wanted to work it out in really great detail with creative and fitting names for every tree and wood (trees are mostly specific to zones but similar lvl trees giving the same wood) but never fully finished and posted it because I got to buys irl unfortunately. But nice to see that a sever finally does it since it just makes sense. Had similar ideas with bows, crossbows, arrows, idols, totems, staves etc. Also, I'm curious how they handled trees in the barrens, searing gorge, burning steppes etc? I planned to have dry (barrens) and burned (SG, BS) logs laying around as you see in these zones anyway which could be collected from the ground and maybe occasionally a dried up tree.

out of all the races..... you use a nightelf to chop down the trees. savage. nightelves should just place a wisp that circles the tree a few times, to harvest the wood. You know, like in Warcraft.
