The big reason why you want tanks are: ●Breakthrough: Allowing you to take less damage on the Attack ● Hardness: Depending on your Hardness you take more or less Damage, a 60/40 Hardness Division takes 60% Damage of Enemy Hard Attack and 40% Damage from Soft Attack. ● Special Attack Tactics: Tactics like Blitzkrieg, Unexpected Attack and Guerilla Warfare can completely break the game ● Higher Base Stats resulting in extreme Planning Bonusses to overcome Stalemates (eg: The Stalin Line) Furthermore: The little Barrel next to the Division Name in the General/ Army list when you click on it shows the fuel. Important to know: RELIABILITY is calculated on a Division-Level. You could easily build 40% Reliability tanks, then use a division with more Motorized/ Mechanized than Tanks, and end up with over 75% Reliability.

ON THE MATTER OF YOUR TANKS. Firstly, always have your reliability at or above 80% there's no reason for you to have it any higher or lower. Second, don't worry about soft attack so much on your tanks, small and large cannons are death traps, just focus on armor. For mediums, Armor should be at least 80-100. The universal rule for armor is 30-50 for light tanks, 80-100 for mediums and 100-120 for heavies. Also upgrade your point armor before adding the +25 percent sloped armor. Don't use sloped armor on light tanks, they should be cheap and fast. All tanks you should ever make in single player should be no faster than 12 kilometers. It's the maximum speed for motorized and only using tanks in a divison destroys the organization. Finally the divison for single player tanks that I think is a good starting point is this, 2 regiments of tanks with 3 battalion in each row (for medium or lights but heavies only 1-2 battalions) Note: You don't have to use only 3 tank battalions the whole game. I recommend for majors adding another 1 battalion to each regiment every year but your frequency should depend on your stockpile. 2 regiments of motorized with max as many battalions you can put on(mechanized are useless in single player) The last regiment should be used as a late game regiment full of either mot artillery or 3 medium tanks or light ones. Hopefully this helped and you'll use tanks more often now!

Soft attack is important its hard attack you should not focus on. For medium tanks 1-2 hmgs (you dont lose reliability from them) + medium howitzer tends to work best

Because of how HOI4 calculates division armor, you can actually somewhat neglect it on the bulk of your tanks. The formula for total armor is "40% * [Highest Armor] + 60% * [Average]". So, the idea is that you add a single battalion of a very expensive AA tank that has maxxed armor to your division, so that way the 40% highest armor makes up for how cheap the rest of your tanks are. A single battalion of medium AA for example is only 36 tanks, so it doesn't matter that they can cost almost 20 IC per tank, you're only going to have 36 in your division yet improve your overall armor stat significantly. You'll get a lot more divisions out this way.

7:20 your tanks aren't actually that bad but for single player the ai doesnt design high armor tanks so piecing isnt your highest priority you should focus on soft attack and breakthrough since it really helps you in attacks in multiplayer piercing and hard attack are more important

For your tanks, it depends on what kind of niche you want the unit to fill. For my mediums, I typically prioritize Breakthrough, since that seems to do the most damage to enemies and allows for the most encirclements, sometimes at the cost of speed, meaning less overruns. For SP Artillery, just prioritize Soft Attack, that is what they are good for. Try to keep all your tanks' reliability at around 80, otherwise their organization will run out too quickly. I don't know if it's actually all that good in MP, but it shreds through France and Poland like nothing in SP, so I would recommend it. Also do your tank divisions at 40 width. I usually do 12 tanks and 8 mech/motorized. Keep in mind tanks really only excel in hills and plains, otherwise you will need some excellent air to back it up.

When designing tanks, it's important (in my opinion) to focus on soft attack, speed, and reliability. If reliability is over 100%, it adds no extra benefit, so you should add more engine/armor points or another module. In singleplayer, the vanilla ai is notoriously bad at designing tanks so hard attack is pointless. Also, you should only research anti-tank in singleplayer to get the improved medium cannon. Hope that helps.

Against AI I don't think that having hard attack on your tanks is worth it. Since they don't put all their tanks in a couple of tiles to make a breakthrough, and instead disperse them on the front, you can just go around the tank and encircle it.
