Actually Jev, "gas operated" means any gun that uses the high pressure gas generated by the cartridge firing, in the PTRS-41's case, to push a short stroke piston and an operating rod to actuate the bolt.

So the PTRS is “gas operated”, meaning it recycles the gas from a MASSIVE 14.5x114mm cartridge to blow the bolt back. Simonov (the manufacturer) ended up using the same gas system in a much smaller cartridge when designing the SKS (which is obviously already in the game). Also it was obviously designed as a anti tank rifle, so it never was originally meant to be scoped (the recoil alone would literally make it impossible to kept zeroed)

For anyone wondering why snipers like Barret .50 cals can use a scope just fine, but the PTRS can't, it's due to the time period. Scopes in WW2/1940's were *garbage.* Breaking binoculars in half, drawing a plus sign on the lens with a sharpie, then duct taping it to your rifle would unironically work better than a scope from World War 2.

Especially with a 14.5mm round that’s even bigger and much more powerful than a 50 cal. the recoil would literally blow the scope off the dust cover if anyone tried to put a scope on it. Besides super specifically made Mosins, Kar98s, Enfields, and Springfields, the idea of a modular sniper or scoped set up in the 30s and 40s is laughable, but I’m still glad they have it in the game.

If you think that fire rate is fast trying to AS44 with the empress falchion A barrel, recoil booster muzzle, 7.62 gorenko 24 round mag, removed stock, carver foregrip, fabric grip with momentum, steady or gung-ho. I've been using it in core and I don't know if it's bugged for me but it melts through people plus the hip fire accuracy is amazing at range.
