As a shipment 24/7 only player, I do feel bad that SBMM exists. I can't tell you how many 80-120kill games I've had where the enemy had 2 good games previously and was very vocal about it in voice during/after match. And just insanely upset and frustrated that they're put into a lobby like mine, for the next 5 games. They aren't having fun. And the fact Activision acknowledges this but literally states they have no plans to fix it is just crazy.

I honestly don't mind the SBMM. Even back in the day I feel like there was a pretty consistent win/loss across multiple games. Some games you do great, other games you suck. It's obviously more skewed now with so many games being near draws, which I don't really mind. My biggest issue is disbanding lobbies. They claim they don't want people having to wait between games, but I'm almost certain I spend more time waiting on matches after every game than back in the day consistently having 60 seconds between matches. Then if you find a decent lobby you can stick to it for an hour or so with majority of the same players. Players will always filter in and out, and if someone's consistently doing badly, they can back out and find another game, and their spot can be filled with a better player.

The difference is that COD 4 and other earlier cods SBMM was calculated after finding a match to balance teams, after the lobby was created. Newer cods use skill before the match and lobby is created.

Also, the SBMM algorithm back then was very simple: it chose 12 people randomly from the pool of players within close proximity, chose someone relatively central with mildly decent internet to be the host, and balanced teams based on the previous match. In fact, you could actually see the team balancing if you stuck around. All it did was order each player based on score and then alternate when putting players on teams. So, 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc were on one team and 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc were on the other

The steam player retention for MWII and MWIII was beyond terrible. Among the worst I've seen in any Call of Duty title. Ever. MWII started out with what, like 600,000 on Steam? Declined to 100,000 during off hours. Then they released MWIII, which barely caused a jump in the population... A brief jump of... 100,000 players, which fell off entirely. Continued to decline until there's less than 40,000 people on Steam playing at times, with peaks around 100,000. It's presently one of the least popular mainstream FPS games, with games such as TF2, GTA V, Warframe, and Rust outperforming it consistently and in some cases quite considerably. Keep in mind that they combine the numbers for Warzone, MWII, AND MWIII to get those numbers and they're still abysmal. THREE GAMES AT ONCE can't match decade-old games.

The average player is NOT GOOD at COD. Which means, most matches will have AVERAGE players in them with maybe one or two being really good. You cannot tell me that "Our studies show that players are getting BLOWN OUT and leave matches because there's no SBMM", that simply would not happen. They are absolutely lying because most of the players in the lobby would be average. There's no way it's consistently 6 average joes vs 6 "gods". That's statistically impossible. SBMM is a thing right now, and I'm still getting in matches where the game ends 200-6 in Hardpoint. Blown out matches are going to happen regardless of SBMM being present or not. So using "people are getting blown out and rage quit" as a reason for SBMM to be implemented is just a cheap answer because there will always be blow out matches and rage quitting. That's gaming. The PRO LEAGUE has blow out matches, too. Even the "best" team can get absolutely stomped. It happens. That is a horrendous argument full of holes.

They have much lower skill in terms of accuracy, aiming, movement etc and I would consistently destroy them in a 1v1, but because they play so slowly and hold angles they perform better, at least in terms of KD (not in any other metric). When I play with them I notice a considerable difference between our lobbies. They might go positive more frequently than I do when we play solo, but I absolutely stomp in their lobbies when I play with them. That’s why I said it barely factors in, it takes a whole lot more than just your KD into account.

When I was a League of Legends player many years ago, I remember Riot putting out a statement on why they refused to make URF a permanent game mode. URF (where cooldowns were reduced by 80%, and spells cost no mana) was fun as hell, but Riot discovered that players would get burnt out and eventually lose interest in returning to the standard game mode. They limit Shipment because their whole business model is built on artificial scarcity. They lock content behind progression and then offer ways to buy progression via skins (which unlock the attachments/guns associated with them automatically) and XP tokens in the battle passes. If they had Shipment 24/7 then people wouldn't be as incentivized to make these purchases. If multiplayer was f2p I'd consider this fine, but it's scummy to do this for a paid title. It's double dipping.

Thats because with COD4 lobby-internal skill matching started. You remember, after a very one-sided game of MW/MW2 the lobby would not disband but the teams would get scrambled to even out? They use that system (which was PERFECT in my opinion) as an excuse that SBMM was always there. I loved that system so much. Rivals would become teammates and vice versa, such a good time.

I really can't comprehend how skill is involved in sbmm at all. I have felt for a long time it is all about how much you play the game, the more you play the game the more it puts you into harder lobbies. I remember in wz1, I was on console, had like a 0.9 kd and the warzone stat website said all my games had an average of 1.3-1.7 kds, in games nearly double my kd as the average player in the game. It was so frustrating I was so ass at the game and it put me against what felt like all these crackheads, I tried to get good but I wasn't. Meanwhile, I looked up Aydan's same stats and he was getting consistently 0.7 kd games, I think I remember one being like 1.3 but he has less kills in it so it reflected how hard my lobbies felt. I couldn't understand it how I was put in those lobbies and it was so frustrating to watch streamers play these lobbies I should be in and they get fucking 40 kills in them. I wanted to play the game they played, but my experience was getting dumpstered every game. Even tho I was addicted to the game, I reached a point where it was just too hard and I didn't want to do it anymore. I came back years later and my stat kd average was way lower in lobbies I would have been competitive in when I actually liked the game. I feel like if it were about skill my lobbies would have normalized to my kd and they never did. I still don't know how streamers get such easy lobbies, we can't tell their kd lobbies anymore cause cod shut that down, and I don't think they all vpn tho some certainly do, so there is something else going on with that imo. When people complain about sbmm, I ask them if this is the only game they play, they always say yes. I think of sbmm to be the game challenging you to see how many hard lobbies you can handle until you quit, if you have the willpower to just stop, play another game, and come back to it your lobbies will be easy again. This is my experience with sbmm, that the best gaming experience is to quit when it's too hard and come back later when sbmm feels like it resets.

bro Aydan is one of the best to ever play the game, it would be tough to fill an entire lobby with people like him. Of course they have to find players at that given time when Aydan cues up. you said you took off years plus the game is popular, you can imagine it being easier to fill a lobby with people who are going to play better. I can imagine that being harder when everybody is quitting because they don't know how to get better or have a team. Ranked warzone and mp there for a reason?

@@salvadortorres568 The time your playing does matter, but like OP, i compared my lobbies to big streamers dropping 30 kills a game and its laughable. They have 3+kd but get 0.6 lobbies while i would be in consistent 1+ kd lobbies (Playing at the same time) with my 1.2-1.4 kd. If they can find a 1.0 lobby for me they can find at least that for a 3.0 "pro".

i feel like all the factors are important, the gap from 1.0 to 3.0 kd is insane. 2.5 2.2 2.0 kds are high and rare. On the other hand there might be lower kds on hot streaks getting into lower lobbies. if everybody quits or stops trying , no matter what lobby you join whatever kd , there wont be enough people in each class @@jakestratus2247

There is a hidden SR in Ranked Play. Like a Ranking System within a ranking system. The visual rank is an illusion. Let's say you are a really good player. You will start in bronze and ONLY face other good players in bronze, silver, etc. Every match is very hard. A bad player will only play bad players and can earn up to platinum or diamond just like you, but didn't have to face the good people and four stacks you had to... to EARN the rank. So, in other words... ranked is an illusion. You will have a bad player get platinum for instance... because their games were easier than yours... something needs to change.

Keep in mind to that when you look at the steam charts it's not just call of duty modern warfare 3 it's mw2, wz, and DMZ even know they don't support it anymore. Bobby Kodak said in court that a large percent of the player base comes from mobile then the next biggest percent is about 25 that comes from PC and then about 15 to 16% on PlayStation and then about 7% on Xbox. The game is dead.

high profile streamers have posted vids of AI Bots in WZ3 just the past few weeks... Activision saying they've never done that when we've had Krampus, as well as Fortunes Keep AI enemies, which many people believed Activision Call of Duty was testing AI Bots against the player base for future implementation, is just asinine. Now we actually have weird moments in WZ3 where players are running into AI clearly malfunctioning, running across the map looking straight up, jumping up and laying down on the edge of the map as if engaged in a firefight but there's no-one around... to pretend this Activision response is in any way credible is the same disservice engaged in bc they simply put out a response due to Content Creators repeatedly posting about the answers they were promised but never got

No no no, SBMM is detrimental to ranked play. My friends should be able to hang in my lobbies when we are the same rank. There is 0! Reason that our lobbies are a night and day difference. So much so that we just can’t play with each other. So much so that it takes 5 min to find a match because of the skill gap between us when we are the same rank. Second, how is that fair at all??? It’s ranked! Why should my lobbies be harder! How is that even ranked play! It should be based on rank!!!! That’s it!

3:20 I’m not sure how much experience you have in the competitive scene but there is ABSOLUTELY an issue with matchmaking in ranked. There’s a blatant MMR rating for every single person who plays COD regardless whether it’s ranked or multiplayer. Say you have two players, one who is highly skilled and one who is awful. Both players would NEVER face each other in the EXACT same rank. If the highly skilled player were to go from bronze to iridescent , every single game from bronze and up would be exactly the same competition of a iridescent game the entire way up because of that players MMR rating. That means that if both players achieve for example diamond rank which is very possible for average players with this system. The significantly lower skilled diamond player isn’t really a diamond player because the game itself is fixed. This means that the rankings themselves aren’t actually true or accurate. It’s a ranked system inside of a ranked system which hands out participation trophy awards to make people feel better. Which isn’t genuinely beneficial to anyone. The entire point of ranked is to earn a legitimate rank based on skill and beating others in your current rank at random without the game completely influencing who’s going to win.
