I went to this. It was total spur of the moment when we heard it announced on the radio. It was a blast. Joshua Tree was an insanely huge album for them. To put it in perspective U2 sold out 7 nights at the LA Coliseum. The Coliseum holds a hundred thousand people. Just crazy. Not many bands before or after could do that.

MY LETTER TO U2-1987 I saw you guys on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 at MTSU-Middle Tennessee State University Saturday November 28th 1987. The Bodeans opened up for you. I remember at the time Larry had a crush on Wynonna Judd and she came out and sang a duo with Bono! I didn't have tickets to the show. A friend of mine drove us 3 hours from East Tennessee to see the show. We bought tickets at the box office for $18.50. We ended up 8th row center stage! I remember back then the band held back tickets for fans who were willing to make the drive and couldn't get tickets via phone or record store locations. Thanks again to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr for making a special album and tour! I was 18 and had just graduated High School that year! All the Best! Gary Lagstrom

There's another great U2 live concert with a huge huge crowd and Bono jumps off the stage and into the concert audience, he starts dancing slow dance, with different women in the audience, with his arms around them.. and then he started singing "Good-bye Ruby Tuesday" and greeting many in the audience, Bono is always spontaneous, always "in the moment" you never knew what he was going to do and when he did it, it was "all good"!!

This was the time that brought U2 from very good band to immortal rock gods. Sam is on the right track. The Edge (U2's guitarist) uses a chorus effect frequently and it goes a long way towards that sound. This is my favorite U2 song, and their performance at halftime of the 2002 Super Bowl is a fan favorite. They listed all the names of the deceased of 9/11. It was a big deal. It was the first Super Bowl post 9/11 and between them and the rise of Tom Brady and the "We are all Patriots today" it was something to behold.

In dublin, as well as alot of places, you knew a person's background by the name of the street they lived on - income, education level, religion, etc. Knowing the street could invite discriminating thoughts toward a person. The idea of the song is to find a place beyond this, could be physical or metaphysical. Could be search for heaven. Thecguitar delay effect, drums, and bsss help carry this idea forward. Grat song. And live, it is unbelievably fantastic.

TRIVIA FOR YOU: 01:51 and other shots, you can see the Back View of the Sign for The Million Dollar Hotel that almost 20 years later U2 would use to film "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" video for the Indie Movie titled "The Million Dollar Hotel"!. I was the Location Sound Guy for a movie that shot at the same hotel back in 96 when the Official Business Name was still The Rosslyn Hotel" but because of it's Iconic Vintage Sign it was still widely known as The Million Dollar Hotel. It was a Transformed into a very Seedy Low Cost Housing Hotel for Skid Row back in the 90s but over the last 20years was bought by developers and Revived as the Upscale "Rosslyn Lofts"! I believe the Million Dollar Hotel Sign still lives on!

The radio jock who said “ You know how hard it is to get U2 tickets “ , that was Rick Dees, famous for doing different funny voices during his show, I know because he spent a better part of the mid 70’s doing it here in Memphis , on two different AM and FM stations , then he got the call in the late 70’s to come to Hollywood and had a famous stint there , so famous that he released a disco hit in the late 70’s called “ Disco Duck” .

This is echoes of The Beatles' historic rooftop concert 1969 on top of Apple Studios, their final time playing together, where the London bobbies (cops) tried to and eventually shut down the concert, but not before The Beatles had played a mini show for all the people walking along Abbey Road down below. Anyway, Where The Streets Have No Name is the lead song off U-2's best and most iconic album, The Joshua Tree (1987). This was the album version. What you heard strains of at the beginning of the video was a snippet of their most rockin' tune, that you definitely need to react to, Bullet The Blue Sky. Other great songs off The Joshua Tree are I Still Haven't Found What I'm looking For, With and Without You, a personal favourite, In God's Country and Red Hill Mining.
