I place escapes over my nucs but I leave the excluder on . It works well as long as there isn’t any cracks Loved seeing the full boxes of honey

Were these new queens this year? We had a bunch of overwintered queens in a 4 over 4 configuration and we experienced nearly constant swarming.

Awesome 👍😃 I've decided to experiment with this technique but of course being a southern New Zealander 🙄 I've put a little kiwi ingenuity into it 😂 I've split a couple of deep supers with a thick homemade division board into opposing four frame nucs with entrances drilled into each corresponding side and a landing board attached at the base of the hole I bored into the supers which gives each "nuc" it's own entrance. A new plastic queen excluder ( which I utterly loathe but was the best seal) will sit on top and then I'll super with deeps because that's all I use😂 needless to say I've been swatting up on all your videos about the technique and here's a new one. Be interesting to see how it goes 😂 great results with the honey by the way 👍 glad to hear you had a great year😁👍

I am going to try that next spring. I do wonder why you can't just put a bee escape on top of the queen excluder and then the honey supers on top of that

Hi Peter, I’ve been studying and preparing to try single brood chambers for several of my colonies. My populations are really strong. I’m trying to figure out if I have too many bees in some of the colonies to reduce them all down to one single deep. Some of them have 8 or 9 full frames of bees. Do I need to worry about too many been in October in KC? Thanks!
