I like watching you spread material with the skid steer. I bought an older one a while back to use on my property and am still learning how to operate it correctly and efficiently. I can do pretty well with the grapple, but not so much with the grading bucket. I pick up little "tips and tricks" by watching you. I realize that it takes practice and one important lesson that I learned a long time ago is that "slow is smooth and smooth is fast". I try to take my time when using it.

It is amazing at how far those gliders can travel. Saw on here in western NC a few months ago and tracked it. It had came out of VA and had went down to around Spartanburg and was on it's way back to VA. It was continuously circling in thermals along the way.

I would say the number one failings of the DIY types is they dont get the right machine for the job, they tend to try and go with a less expensive rental on a smaller machine thinking they can work a little slower and save a few bucks. For instance, for this they would rent a wheeled machine instead of a tracked machine which is much more stable and had much better traction. In this case it takes both an experienced operator as well as the right machine to cut a nice flat grade stripping off the topsoil for prep for the project. You can also see that Chris isnt taking huge cuts when removing the topsoil which is key keeping the machine moving and getting the grade correct.

My lord that's a pricy pad here. Stone is 750/ld for a tandem. Our customers usually want dirt then 6" stone. I bet working w all stone is way easier. Turned out awsome man!!!!!

Had a glider like that from southern virgina land in my drive way. The guy told me that they use the wind currents to build speed afterwards and that him and his buddy were trying to see how far they could make it and he lost his buddy landed another 20 miles north

Just for what it's worth, gliders only go down, sailplanes can operate in thermals, rising wind from hills and mountains and can stay up for hours and thousands of miles.

Always gets me how light in colour dirt is in the US. "Topsoil" in my garden here in the UK is nigh on black & 20-24" deep. Probably down to these parts being under a mile of ice not too far back in geological time.

Depends on where you are at. Go to the Mississippi River bottom and you’ll find over 20 feet of the darkest top soil you’ve ever seen that’s been built up over thousands of years. The geology of the US is very varied.

It depends…. I helped a friend hand dig for a cellar door in Des Moines, Iowa. We were 7 feet down into the blackest topsoil that I have ever seen. 200 miles south in Kansas City, we might have 6 inches of topsoil. Of course we donated most of it to the east coast about 90 years ago.

Hello Chris, I was curious about the excavator going down and the Dozer going down basically at the same time! Is there such a thing as getting ahold of bad d e f? It seems an awful big coincidence that both units went down basically at the same time, I am a retired excavation contractor 2018 so I am unfamiliar with the emission systems using d e f

There's at least a theory that DEF goes bad and/or forms/leaves crystalline deposits on/at the injector(s?) due to age, and more specifically if not stored where sunlight and heat can't get to it; that to be extremely watchful of the date on it when it's on a huge sale somewhere (I'm picturing sitting outside on a skid). I haven't looked into that and have no idea of any type of chemical degradation. It wouldn't surprise me if it were possible for a bulk delivery to be or get contaminated or degraded but I don't have anything ro back that up either way. I'm "lucky" in that I couldn't justify anything newer than my '97 7.3 PS due to maintenance costs vs my limited use. Again, don't count on what I "said", take it with many grains of salt, it is not gospel, and I have no "miles" to say "your mileage may vary". I only shared because you posted a month ago..

can they gross more than 80k with those quad and 5 axle or even that 6 axle truck in nc? in nj you never see more than triaxles. if they cant gross more just seems like it is a heavier truck so less payload. but i dont know if nc requires them to be quads or more

Awsome job! I'm attempting to build my own slab pad on a house were building. The concrete/ slab guy asks that its 15 feet wider than the dimensions of the house and 2 bricks high. What is 2 bricks high? Is two bricks 6 inches above grade or more than that? I should have asked the slab guy to clarify being I'm a noob but I didn't. Also wondering if I need to use a sheeps foot to compact the dirt or will the skid steer be good enough?
