@@comfynihilist I mean, Ichikawa is so earnest and passionate and caring from the word go, what's not to love? He's got ambition and the chops to back it up, seeing how confident he is in his ability to sway the entire club with his screenplay. And once that's done, they follow his lead with single-minded conviction, it seems. He's great at giving motivational speeches and inspiring people in general, and he does pay attention and take care of his own, as evidenced by how he notices something's off and asks after Mao when the latter is feeling out of sorts. Long story short I already have a big fat crush, I understand you Mr Jin guy, you're valid, it's a crime that hot megane is single, we are both down bad 😔You be a good puppy and don't bite 👈 (unless my sweet Ichi-boy is into it)! Just an aside, but I see people saying the characters in the show don't have personalities outside of what they are in relation to one another and I wonder, are we watching the same show? Because I honestly think Tasogare does /splendidly/ on characterization.

@@adrianneyvonnudottir1614 oh i totally agree, you’ve nailed the reasons why i adore ichikawa perfectly - he’s melodramatic and prickly but also there’s such a pure passion he has for film (and BL as well hehe) that makes him such a relentless force to be reckoned with whoever’s saying they’re only characterised by their love for each other will definitely shut up once they watch the next storyline - though i understand they may have this opinion due to the faster pacing of the anime, i think ichikawa and jin’s story especially utilises the conflict arising from their differing outlooks to showcase their individual personalities their core values are not diminished at all after falling in love, which is something i treasure a lot

@@comfynihilist Regardless of people's opinion on pacing, and coming at it from the perspective of widely acclaimed BL shorts like the Korean Hyperventilation and Mignon (with the entire story wrapped up in around 20mins and around an hour, respectively), I really feel like it's a disservice to the animation crew to claim a lack of characterization 😭 We jump into the story right in the middle of things, and everything we are shown about Mao is purely his personality and his personality only - his inner dialogue that only him & the audience hears, him in relation to his fellow club members, him with what at this point is only his roommate (that he is very clearly fond of, but not more at this point), and then we get flashbacks and witness their first meeting and the subsequent week of rooming, see how pragmatic yet attentive and considerate Mao is, how easygoing... None of this originates from or only exists for the benefit of Hisashi, it's completely separate from him? 😭 And then likewise Hisashi is shown to be withdrawn, a bit reserved (so clear on their first meeting), introverted and generally the type to warm up and only become friendly & affectionate once he gets closer to & grows to trust people (like when he's seen chatting to... I wanna say Teru? My socially unacceptable inability to tell twins apart despite knowing them forever strikes again). All of these are their personality traits independent of their relationship to one another! All carefully, methodically delivered bits of characterization that one's gotta be blind or simply determined to settle on a bad faith reading not to see! And then all of Mao's brazen playfulness once they get together, it was there all along! Mao is never timid with his fellow crew members and he /will/ clap back like when Ichikawa's tries to admonish him for his lack of focus (haha). He's even gonna act all prickly about it, just because he knows Ichikawa's completely right but doesn't wanna get called out on it! This is all very different to a narrative like, say, Dakaichi, where Junta's main personality trait is adoring Takato, being horny for Takato, wanting to excel at acting because he wants to star opposite Takato... and I say this as a huge Dakaichi enjoyer! The single thing that Hisashi does in direct relation to Mao is give acting (and the socializing, and being part of a team that comes with it) a shot! Which can only be a good thing, since we're told he's been lonely, and isolated, and it's clearly not been good for him. Now he's got a lover whom he thinks is so cool, and he gets to be a part of something bigger than himself! And even then there is no maladaptive co-dependence, Hisashi goes off on his own (well, wth Honjo) and joins the drama club and spends most of his time apart from Mao. So long story short, yes, I think we appreciate similar things, like the characters staying their own people after getting into a relationship, and I am really looking forward to seeing how that pans out with Giichi and Jin 😏

@@halfmoonx I think the anime will follow a 4ep/couple scheme but since their lives are intertwind we will probably still see Mao and Otomo but this time more of as a side characters since the focus will shift to Ichikawa and Kikuchihara. (The end of this episode also implied that we hopped back in time to spring around the time the filming started so at that point Mao and Hisashi's story also was at the begining phase 😉)

I have adored Ichikawa practically since the moment I first laid my eyes on him! I can’t WAIT! I predict this new couple is gonna be *hilarious*! I anticipate copious amounts of that Good Yaoi Bullshit, kictor! Modern AU Guyun about to get pushed down by a hot, sexy SENPAI! Know that in every manner but physical I'm the Heavy Breathing Cat meme, vibrating at the speed of sound... It amuses me, though, how most people reacting to the show have been so taken aback by the quick progression into intimacy and the (by now frequent) lovemaking. This has been true ever since last week's episode, but I find it so... heartwarming? Endlessly endearing? After all we rarely see intimacy framed like this in romance anime in general, much less in BL or MLM-adjacent media… Where both parties are so into each other, physically and emotionally! To see a same-sex couple just cuddling in bed, talking about it casually and bonding like it’s no big deal, because it isn’t! I love the show for giving me this! It feels monumental. It delights me. Because sex in anime is usually treated either like this colossal milestone that we're gonna spend 2-4 years building up to, then never properly explore (like oh, we are past this now! they did it off-screen, that's all you need to know, and what are you doing trying to peek into their bedroom, you nasty voyeur!), or a half-comedic, half-predatory culmination to a prowl with the seme as the hunter and the uke just giving into the seme's uncontrollable desires (that he also secretly experienced but dared not show). And here it is neither! It's both very casual intimacy (the world won't end if we have sex now! nobody is going to be emotionally damaged beyond repair if we have sex now!) and a loving expression of affection and deep attraction that brings them closer together. It happens about as often as you'd expect.. and I don't mean that they are horny teenagers, this seems like just about the right amount of intimacy for people who are new to skinship and sexual relationships! And while Hisashi is not new to the technicalities of it, making love to someone who cares about him and fulfills his emotional needs is also new! It strikes me as very realistic. No wonder they can't get enough of each other... As you and several other people have pointed out, Hisashi & Mao have been really mature about the relationship and the sexual aspect of it, too? Talking things out, voicing concerns, sharing their feelings honestly and without restraint, not letting misunderstandings set in, trusting each other with their hearts and the time spent apart. There is the understanding that intimacy is going to happen only if they both want it to, Hisashi always asks and coaxes so sweetly and Mao is so clearly into it, too. There is nigh a trace of that iffy, coercive vibe a lot of BLs settle for where the top is insatiably horny all of the time and the bottom is just resigned to putting up with it, pulling a Mother Theresa for both their sakes. And Mao has such a spunky, delightful personality

I was reminded of this today... Mao's impulse to commit everything beautiful and important to film reminds me of Eiji, actually.
