Regarding breathing styles, technically anyone can learn any breathing technique, but it may or may not be suitable for their bodies, which is why so many off shoots have been made. Tanjiro states this in season two when after he used water and sun breathing in combination to save Izui's wife. He also states Water breathing wasnt suited for his body, so he tends to only use water breathing defensively.

Not everyone can learn every technique which is the very reason yoriichi made all those different breathing styles for his students because they couldn't learn his sun breathing. Only people from yoriichis clan (the people with red hair and eyes) which is the clan tanjiros ancestor was from can learn sun breathing and master it. Since the Kamado family weren't warriors like yoriichi, yoriichi taught them the sun breathing technique in the form of a dance.

Those were created by the different slayers who was forced to make up their own because they cannot master sun breathing. And I dont think the Kamados are related to Yoriichi. I think Yoriichi saved them at some point and he shared the sun breathing through a dance which was passed on from generations

regarding breathing techniques, some of them can be learned since they’re quite old and born from sun breathing. if you remember the explanation from mugen train, those are: wind breathing, stone, water, thunder and flame. but there are others, like sound, love and mist, that are created by people themselves from scratch. then again, they can also be learned, but you know. they’re more “recent” compared to the other techniques. sound breathing, for example, was actually created by uzui. he could get a tsuguko and teach them how to use it, but yeah. flame and water, as we can see, are “older” and have been taught and learned for generations now. hope this helps!

You can learn any style of breathing, but there is usually one that works best for you. Determine which breath is right for you based on the color of the knife. For example, if someone is suitable at water breathing, his sword will turn blue (that is why Tanjiro always breaking his swords he is not good at water breathing). I remember that in the second season, Tanjiro said swordsmen will constantly explore the most suitable breathing for them, so there will be more and more breathing styles. People can learn one style and change it or learn many styles and mix them.

You don't need to worry about Nezuko. Everyone seems to forget the important fact mentioned in season 1 I think. Demons can't kill each other. Besides obviously Muzan, but that's because he turned them all. Also, sun breathing was the first, original demon slaying style. Every other form is based off of that. They're sun breathing descendants so they can use other styles, because nothing compares to Sun breathing and they're all lesser versions of sun breathing

Breathings can be learned by anyone if they can get the grasp of it, So yea rengoku could learn water but, Clan and Heirloom comes into play because certain breathing techniques are passed down through the clans. It still shocks me that Hantengu and Gyokko are more powerful than both Daki and Gyutaro combined! And it took everything Tanjiro, Inosuke, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Tengen had to defeat them, they all nearly died and Tengen was crippled after the fight. Hantengu and his 6 forms are seriously something else and Gyokko with his incredibly dangerous and fishy Blood Demon Art. They both don’t hold the position of Upper Ranks 5 and 4 for nothing. It’s gonna take everything Tanjiro and Nezuko have now to defeat Upper 4 even with a new Dance of the Sun God attack.

In season 2 episode 1 from [17.00-18.00] when Tanjiro meets Koyjuro Rengoku’s dad, it is explained that all breathing styles come from Sun breathing and that they, apparently are just unperfected copy’s of sun breathing!! Also anyone can learn any breathing styles if they’re skilled enough and I am pretty sure you can learn more than one breathing style and combining them will make you able to make your own breathing style (like the love hashira who was supposed to learn flame breathing but wasn’t able to master it and therefor created her own breathing style which is called love breathing. Love breathing is basically flame breathing but combined with Mitsuri Kanroji acrobatics and special strong legs!! Fun fact: she’s also the only person who survived the flame breathing straining)

Lol remember what was hinted at in the first ep of the season! Tanjiro and his family are not related to Yoriichi (I assume since the doll was called Yoriichi so that is his name) and the Sun Breath users! The Kamados have only been charcoal sellers! So far the only person we have absolute confirmation of being a descendant is Muichiro and it is strange his father looks so much like Tanjiro. Another strange fact is that Sumiyoshi stated Yoriichi had no heirs and yet there’s a descendant of Sun Breathing so how that is possible I can only make a crazy guess. Great reaction as always!

your question about learning the forms or breathing techniques, i think in season 2 when tanjiro saved tengen's wife from gyutaro using a combined water and sun breathing technique, he surmised that the sun breathing technique branched off to many offshoots (wind, flame, thunder, water, and the last one, can't remember it) to make the swordsman maximize their capabilities. Rengoku's father also explained it when they first met.. I don't know how they did it though, forgot the info from the manga, or if they ever reveal it right there.. also, off-topic, the naruto question, everything about learning elements is shippudden stuff...

I don't know if this was a Spoiler or not, but the reason why there was a lot of Breathing Techniques was because Sun breathing is the first and most powerful breathing and not everyone can do it thats why some people modificate the Sun breathing so They Can use it too, and thats why breathing techniques has branches like Thunder branches to Sound, because the disciple will Modificate the breathing techniques so they could use it, and i think the closest Breathing Technique to Match Sun is Flame since it burns too its like the Cheap version.

Technically guys you can learn any breathing techniques depends on your sensei.. like tanjirou learning water breathing techniques as his first breathing but remember one episode tanjirou ask zenitsu how he use his lightning fast thunder breathing tanjirou actually copied it to his advantage and also one episode that tanjirou realize that he is not compatible in water breathing that is why he always broke the sword and started to master the fire dance breathing because it's actually reflicate the sun breathing ! Basically they can learn any breathing style, and it's not in their genetics. Cuz if you remember (or if i remember correctly), even tanjiro's ancestor learned it from the other guy (who looked like the upper moon 1), instead of being a direct descendant of him. So it's not related to their gene or bloodline. It's just what their family learned and passed down through generations. Tanjiro was suddenly able to perform sun breathing because his father had been showing it to him since young, but didnt train him to do it exactly. So it was from his memory. Muichiiro, on the other hand, lost his memory, so he went and learn mist breathing from someone else. Same like Rengoku, the father is a flame hashira, so naturally he and his brother learned flame breathing from their dad. Not because of their bloodline.

For clear no spoilers. Tanjiro did learn the water Breathing from Urokodaki and Fire Breathing(for now) from memories from his Father. Muichiro created his own Breathing form that is Mist Breathing that is compatible to his body and cover other weakness. But no one can do multiple breathing thou. Because it takes a lot of time plus it should be compatible with the body to lure out the power inside them. Mist breathing is a branch of one of the fundamental breathing techniques. Like STONE WATER THUNDER FLAME are the fundamental breathing i forgot the last one thou probably WIND.

Kyojuro´s Father said to Tanjiro, that every style of Breathing just mimic the Sun Breathing. And, the Mist breathing is the combination of multiple Breathing techniques. Even Tanjiro combined Sun and Water breathing during the fight with Upper 6 in Entertainment District Arc. I think, they can learn, combine, even create a new style of breathing from previous forms, but one of the styles always will be dominant, according to their own personality, talents, etc.

The breathing styles are fighting styles… it’s not some kind of magical power. Just because your ancestor was an amazing karate practitioner, it doesn’t mean you can suddenly do karate. Tanjiro learned what looks like the Sun Breathing from the Hinokami Kagura, which is the Shinto dance that was passed down the generations in Tanjiro’s family (along with the earrings). So it seems like the Sun Breathing was passed down secretly in the form of a religious dance. Tanjiro learned Water breathing from Urokodaki, but he claims he can’t seem to master it as well as Giyu. I have no idea what Muichiro’s family practiced or who he learned Mist breathing from, but for him to able to do Sun Breathing, someone had to have taught him. It could be that Muichiro’s family did practice Sun Breathing, but Muichiro hadn’t been taught yet since he was a kid, or that he had forgotten it from whatever incident took away his memories. Then again, Shinobu had no idea what Tanjiro was talking about, so it could be that the idea of Sun Breathing had been lost over time. That being said, it seems the Rengoku family may have known about it as it had been written about in their journals. I’m not a manga reader, so these are just my conclusions based on what had been told in the story thus far. Manga readers, please don’t spoil anything.

People weren’t compatible with the Style they were trying to learn, so they had to adapt it to suit themselves. Your Nichirin blade color reflects the breathing style you are compatible with. All Breathing Styles came from Sun Breathing, the original breathing style. Tanjiro is a Sun Breather, that’s why his sword is black. Sun Breathers are the only ones who can learn multiple different breathing styles. They can learn all of them. For other people, it’s simply impossible to learn a breathing style you are not compatible with. That’s why the black sword is cursed and it’s told that someone with one never became a Hashira… because they die young. Muzan knows black swords belong to Sun Breathers, so he hunts them down and has them killed before they can reach their full potential and learn Sun Breathing. Tanjiro just barely managed to survive this far, he almost always had help from others and even so barely made it out alive from his fights with Rui, Enmu, Gyutaro… he was lucky to survive long enough to become strong. This is how every breathing style originated: Sun -> Water -> Flower -> Insect Sun -> Water -> Serpent Sun -> Flame -> Love Sun -> Wind -> Mist Sun -> Wind -> Beast Sun -> Thunder -> Sound Sun -> Stone Sun -> Moon Sun gave birth to all, so Sun Breathers are compatible with all. Also, other breathing styles are watered down versions of sun breathing. They are all weaker. Sun Breathing is the strongest beathing style there is. The only other which comes close to Sun Breathing’s power is Moon Breathing.

Didn't rengoku's dad say that those chosen for sun breathing are born with a scar on their forehead. We see no such scar on muichiro so I guess he doesn't have any sun powers.

if im not mistaken , sun breathing user surely teach people to use breathing style in fight (the first breathing style user) but somehow sun breathing is hard to use and the breathing is spilt by 5 main style which can bye use and more suitable for the users that wants to use breathing tech. but he never seen a sun breathing user for long time (which tanjiro have the earing and maybe the scars too) and thats why rengoku's father wants to fight tanjiro at the first time they met because he thought the sun breathing user wants to like show off or something because sun breathing is the ultimate breathing style

I think each style of fighting is something that can be learned by anyone. So Tanjiro learned the water style because that what was taught to him. He knows the sun style because of his dad. My theory is that anyone can learn sun breathing but only special individuals can use it to its max potential or without suffering too many drawbacks

Guys just a recap.. Tanjiro is not a descendant of Yoroichi the first sun breather. Yoroichi has no descendants from his own blood which is revealed in the past episode. So this means you can learn any breathing style depends if you can grasp it. No spoilers pls.

The "styles" in DS are not like chakra in Naruto. They are literally just swordsmanship forms that are specialized and taught by people who mastered them. Bloodlines are however predisposed to specific styles over others. So Tanjiro for example, was taught water breathing/forms, but is more predisposed to sun breathing.
