Yes they can climb! We had a grandma sow who climbed our stalls to chase us. One time it was chasing me and it got one of its back legs caught in the barb wire we finally got, on top because dad didn’t believe us. I had to free its foot and run like crazy! A long way to the fence to get out of the barn area. As he did chase me! It was scary. Congratulations on getting them!

Time for a luau! Been years since I've had a whole hog smoked in the ground! Nothing better! You could clean them and freeze until you have the chance to cook them. Just think of how many folks you could invite to that luau? Or smoke them and make meals for the homeless if nothing else. I'd sure buy some of the meat if it was affordable...I can't afford any of the farm raised meats they sell online from private farms. As much as I would LOVE to have that quality meat and help out our farmers at the same time. Prices may have gone up, but my disability check has not. Nor has my husbands small soc. sec. check. We are simply doing all we can to hang onto our home. Great job catching those hogs~ I have some ideas about how to fix your trap, but I'm sure you can do much better at figuring it out than an old lady that has never trapped can! lol Blessings~

I fully agree with you about prices on farm animals to purchase and butcher. I'm 70 years old and on retirement. My check isn't big at all because I had taken time off working to take care of my daughter because she has Muscular Dystrophy. We had many trip the as they called it "Jerry's Kids" clinic which was a 4 hour trip. She has many tests ran and we had to stay 2 nights in a motel. My income is very limited. All groceries have gone up so high that I've actually had to start doing a tight budget to pay my bills and buy food and non food items

You need to look at the Pig Brig® style traps made with netting. Hogs that go into a Pig Brig® stay until they're carried out.

Sadly, the credit bureau sells your info as well as data brokers. When they are all greedy, you get hacked. In 3 years I have had multiple things removed.

Dutch, you should choose a couple of the older juvenile hogs snd process them. They're edible. Ask Daniel - he processed one a couple of years ago.

Yes the Hog Eye style traps work great but they cost $2,200 - $6,700 depending on size. And that doesn’t include the camera and accessories. It is hard for an individual farmer to justify that expensive of trap without future use planned. Dutch is frugal and going to have to run the numbers. It is easy for viewers to spend his money.

On that homemade trap put a t post outside the wire but don’t wire the panel to the post. They will be able to push in and when they try to push out the new post will be there to stop the panel from pushing open. That makes the hole going in seem bigger and the hole going out a lot narrower by half.

Dutch, are you letting your beard grow to highlight the gray in it? My husband eventually had a white beard, but most of the time kept it closely groomed until before Christmas time when he went into Santa mode for schools. Something he enjoyed very much each year. Sean using cattle panels don’t work for hog traps as you can see, you need combo panels , that have small holes at the bottom and get larger at the top, this is what I used for my garden fence and had 52”x16’ panels I bought at tractor supply. The combo panels are for all livestock and are designed for hogs, piglets , sheep and cattle, the and on the combo panels the bottom 2.5’ has 2” and 4”opening that get larger as they go up last 2 ‘ is 6 inch openings. I have seen some that was on 5” wire centers in the past.

Might be an idea to put some smaller wire across the top to stop them climbing out, if you get more in there, especially if 1 female can have 14 at a time, that can get really crazy so fast with that amount of pigs/hogs already

both need to be wrap top to bottom with smaller wire. your old one needs a piece of rod on the edge of the door and it will work much better. helped mine. community sausage supper in the works.

Maybe prop the door open on the circle trap so they can go in and out freely for a few days then reset it. Also you’ll need a hog panel around the bottom or stagger a panel like you have to catch sm pigs.

Years ago, my uncle gave my mom a baby wild hog she had it for years. She could do anything with that hog. She had it until the girl hog died, this happened in western north Caroline , this was in the 60s

Put some 3 or 4 inch square mesh around your trap 7 to about 4ft high so that the piglet's have to go through the main entrance & not through the wire as the trap is ....... just a thought ???
