Thanks for this video. I'm in the process of replacing the radio base because it broke off. We have an 01 DGC EX and I had to remove the entire fender just to get to the cable. What a pain. Now I'm having a hard time finding a replacement.

Wish it showed how they took off just the attena. I can't go through car wash with attena. I tried to pull it off push it down unscrewing it. I even got a wrench to see if I could unscrew it. I just want to wash my van.

Why would you fix the antenna first? Did you get the tie rods fixed?
@LivingInAVan5 жыл бұрын
That was the main purpose. The antenna was an extra bonus and was being worked on while we waited for the notched tie rod to get delivered. They did the work for FREE.

You could of piled the money from Charles and the go fund me to buy a new van
@LivingInAVan5 жыл бұрын
The money was designated by Charles for repairs to the tie rods to keep Blue running until enough funds could be raised for a replacement. Even with the money Charles sent, that's still not enough to buy a better van and could result in me buying a van in worse condition. At least we know what's wrong with Blue. We won't know on a new vehicle till the problem(s) show up...and they can be very costly to repair. I bought a $2,500 dollar van once. It died two weeks later due to head gasket issues.

I'll have to watch the whole video later. I just skimmed through it on my way to work.

Glad youve got the safety issues with Lil Blue worked on...' A leaky roof is better than NO roof '...👍

Indeed. Some people aren't understanding that without a running van, I'm essentially homeless and on the streets. The police will come and tow an there would be fines to pay...not even looking at the dangerous situation that was resolved by fixing the brakes and the rods. Charles was prioritizing my safety and comfort while buying me TIME to find a worthwhile replacement vehicle.

I thought you had to pull that plastic wheel well out & go from there. This is why I watch a couple videos before I work on a car I've never touched before.

Sad that the repair shop doesn't care enough about your van to put a few layers of masking tape on the fender around the anntena so the paint didn't get all scratched up. As far as feeding the coax through, taping a cord or small rubber hose to the old one as they pull it out to use as a pull-rope to facilitate pulling in the new one saving you money and them frusteration. As the owner of a auto repair facility myself our goal is to always leave a customers vehicle in better shape when it leaves than when it came regardless of the vehicles condition. SMH

Lol. Have you seen Blue's paint job? It's a $2 Walmart blue paint special. Blue is now in MUCH better condition than when she first arrived there. The antenna installation was FREE.

Living In A Van KZbin has been invaluable to me as a shop owner to see the perceptions of various car owners as to the value of the service they have received for their nickle.

Look that part was easy for me tapped on all 3 pivots and unscrew. I'm having a problem. Getting the actual whip antenna off. Like all I need to do is take that dam whip off....

I know you love your vehicle and its your home etc but there comes a point in every vehicles life that unless a major restoration is done ,its life is over. LB2 has been passed its sell by date for a long time and its rust issues are not only structurally dangerous, but if the worst happened ,that chassis may not keep any rigidity to the vehicle at all. I know your doing what you think is correct but stop pouring lost cash in that vehicle that could get you a newer, better, safer one.
@LivingInAVan5 жыл бұрын
Currently working on that. Blue just needs to last long enough for me to save $$$/raise funds. A budget of $400-$900 will buy me a vehicle in worse shape than Blue.

@@LivingInAVan i know and im sure you have already realised this and your friend charles is a genorous guy for donating funds and parts. Please only do the bare minimum to keep it running . Im sure one of your viewers/ subscribers has a vehicle that isnt used or wanted but is better than lb2 . I could get you a suitable vehicle i know of for next to nothing tomorrow as its not being used and 100% better than lb2 but im in England so obviously cant help. Its frustrating.
