As absurd as it sounds it is the case in most states and for good reason. It's not as such exactly, it's less than felony offenses have to occur in officers presence or there be probable cause it happened and a certain person did it with varying degrees of proof but it's because in every single matter at least 1 party is lying and far too often someone is weaponizing the system to harm someone with false reports to harm their life or person by hoping responding cops automatically harm or arrest etc. So to help relieve the amount of lawsuits they implemented this practice and for good cause although you can guarantee they don't practice it if they want to conspire to oppress someone but that is actually a ground for suit when arrested absent witness by cop or probable cause it happened and that you were the culprit etc. They claim it's better honor and protect rights, but its actually just to help limit the swarm of lawsuits/settlements that have become over 800% more common since 2010 to 2021, and like over 300% since 2015 to 2021 when they evaluated it. It's only becoming more and more common with some people collecting multiple in a single calendar year (almost exclusively "baiting" but nonetheless). Then they educate and share the knowledge with others who either have viable scenarios already they endured, or they too learn to legally bait by ensuring they don't violate any laws but exploit and manipulate to likely cause police attention or to be called on them, then simply invoke rights and let the rest happen naturally.

ELY, remember this for next time. That Supervisor told you it was a "commercial office building" and said it was not open to the public. It is 100% open to the public. I can guarantee that their are businesses in there that rent space such as accountants, lawyers, etc. Therefore a member of the public can go inside in order to get to those businesses. Being a private building, they could kick you out for any reason if you enter the building but you would have to be asked to leave before any trespass action.

Why do people do what they do, and think that it's ok to walk up to someone, they don't know and touch their property, I can say within in all walks of life we are taught right from wrong, and if one day we slip up, we should understand that there is always consequences for our actions, hopefully this security officer will be given a warning for how he conducted himself, and would learn a valuable lesson from all this, and to never do something like this again with any member of public.
