It's weird to me that people are acting like the idea of Vault Tec starting the great war is absurd or lore-breaking. Over the course of the series, we've seen hints that this was the case, and heck, there was even a suggestion that _ALIENS_ started it. I always stand by my personal headcannon: it doesn't matter. The whole series, the environment itself, everything -- it all works in service of the idea that *everyone* dropped the bomb. The great war exists in the lore as an inevitability: the product of war itself. It could have been Vault Tec detonating nuclear devices WHILE China struck first WHILE aliens got the launch codes. All on the same day. But what does that change? Who cares who "started it"? The end result is the same because war...war never changes.

Exactly. Doesnt matter who started the war, but it's important to know everyone had a hand in it. Interestingly enough, comparing the events that transpire in the games and knowing what we know from the series it is actually quite possible that Vault Tec did initiate the apocalypse by detonating a nuclear bomb on America. In this reunion we can see key figures of the world of Fallout, most important, Mister House, Frederick Sinclair and Leon van Felden. First and foremost Mister House: he knew the bombs would eventually drop so he built a an advanced system that could stop however many might target his domain (New Vegas), this kind of system would’ve been incredibly expensive and being the kind of man that he was he wouldn’t have built it ‘just in case’ but because he knew (probably due to this very meeting that we now see play out). Then we have Frederick Sinclair, Big MT associate that built a casino in the middle of nowhere, a place that while unaffected by the bombs (IE. there is no actual nuclear damage to the buildings of the villa or the casino beyond that which the radioactive storms caused, the lackluster materials from which it was built and the cloud which was corrosive too). He built it as a safe haven for the woman he loved knowing that it would survive even if he could not predict how unstable the cloud was. Finally Leon von Felden, head chief scientist of West Tek, the creators of the power armor and most importantly the Forced Evolutionary Virus (FEV) which created the supermutants. Though he was a chief staff member of West Tek he wasn’t in the headquarters of West Tek (which was hit with so many bombs it turned into ‘The Glow’ a place where no life will ever grow both due to the FEV released into the atmosphere and the radioactive cloud from so many explosions) when the bombs dropped and instead was in secret military base (Mariposa) where, if not for being interrogated at the hands of Maxson (founder of the Brotherhood of Steel) after the soldiers there found out they were doing human testing, would’ve survived the nuclear apocalypse. They knew what would happen with certainty and they knew how to be prepared for it. They also mention key experiments from the games, the FEV experiments in Vaults and the hallucinogens in the ventilation system… I think they did drop the bombs.
@2KOOLURATOOLGaming2 ай бұрын
I agree, but the thing is, she says "By dropping the bomb ourselves." Sure this could mean, using THE atomic bomb, however, I think it is more likely that the plan is: Vault-Tec drops one bomb on America. That alone is enough to start the war. Everyone is so hot-headed and afraid, one general orders a retaliatory strike without waiting for more info. The enemy then detects a wave of nukes. Thus, mutually assured destruction occurs. This way, vault-tec was responsible for THE atomic bomb that started it all.
@skl4189Ай бұрын
They didnt. There are multiple reasons to suspect that they didnt. 1- those in charge of many vaults were caught unprepared and many experiments and vaults were not ready yet when the bombs dropped 2- the earliest mentions of nuclear activity occurred from American radar picking up Chinese warheads and subs enroute to the states 3- one of the creators of fallout stated the war started when the Chinese discovered the American FEV and demanded they cease those experiments. When the US refused China launched the nukes

What's funny is that prior to this TV series, I distinctly remember there being a movie scrip and within that script, it hinted that Vault Tec were the ones that dropped bombs on both China and the U.S. Both sides thought they launched their nukes at each other, and the rest is set in stone, with the nuclear exchange lasting only two hours. Now, I can't find it.

Honestly, the idea of Vault-Tech starting nuclear attacks is pretty good. Given the fact none of their vaults - aside from the ones they would inhabit - were created to save lives, it always gave me the idea that a) they took advantage of the geo-political climate for their own gain or b) didn't want to lose money on vaults that may never be used if the war ended peacefully and so they took matters into their own hands. No one goes to that much effort of human experimentation without a guarantee there'd be humans to experiment on. I quite like this addition to the Fallout lore.

Not even mentioning the undetonated bomb in Megaton, I distinctly remember reading that theory in-game in Fallout 3. Whether in the main game itself, or in the Mothership Zeta DLC. They're going to inherit the earth by...putting a select few in VIP vaults, than assume that nobody in the experimental vaults and on the surface will survive, than kill any that do after they're done coming out of Cryo, which they will spend hundreds of years waiting to do for no apparent reason long after the surface is inhabitable, so they can rule a wasteland of ruins with a breeding pool of people they put in Vaults with a communist system of living, so they can "win" the capitalist game and be the top of the food pile? Why have control vaults, why give Vaults GECKs, why make Vaults even survivable at all, why wait hundreds of years to come out of Cryo, why keep a breeding pool society in the dark that can turn against you, why set up a war against the other Vaults and wastelanders, why all this to inherit an irradiated planet... ..it makes more sense to me that they plan to get on a spaceship, use the vaults experiments research data to inform how to handle the trip across generations, and they are simply apathetic about what happens to everyone who survived they left on earth You can keep the corporate conspiracy angle, but the goal of the conspiracy makes no sense IMO. Tim's spaceship plan outline does. The experiments themselves can still be crazy, not necessarily the most logical think to test for spaceship living research.

How is it boring? Lmfao. What are you talking about? @@thepaintingbanjo8894

@@thepaintingbanjo8894 Except they mention it would take many hundreds of years to reach a space colony, and the cryogenic freezing fails after like 200ish years based on fallout 4. I'd imagine the executive vault is on its last legs, probably gonna be the plot for next season.

Bud is such a perfect representation of corporate evil. Every time we see him he's absolutely giddy to be the center of attention and get to talk about his little ideas. He's so in love with his own cleverness. But to those of us living in the real world, we see exactly the wrong kind of person to be behind the wheel of the future.
@michaelshigetani433Ай бұрын
at first I thought "is he oblivious to the evil he's doing ?" but after a second viewing; Bud KNOWS what he's doing. And he enjoys it. Not in a massive "I'm a sadistic killer" way, but in a bland "job well done" kind of way . This is the guy who pushes the button on the gas chamber, then goes home to a meal and sleeps soundly. He's not EVIL , he's just, kinda sorta evil. "everyday evil" as Sir Terry Pratchett put it.

Bud is the exact type of guy you would not want in a seat of power. He's got some absolutely effed up ideas and enough money to see that they happen.

This scene really enhances that opening of the series, Howard didn’t want to do the Thumbs Up cause it’s the symbol of the people actively starting Nuclear Armageddon and he’s the Poster Boy for them and he’s one of the only people aware of that fact. My guess is after the meeting, he took his daughter away from his wife, possibly divorcing since she’s nowhere in the first episodes intro and Howard got called a Commie leading to him doing little cowboy shows for rich children’s birthday parties

His wife totally knows she’s bugged, and looks towards the guy up in the window. It’s so scary knowing what they know

"what if we made a vault, and just put in one guy" "Huh?" "Oh he won't be alone, he has himself and his other self, and his other selves to keep him company! Were gonna clone him and only him." "I dont know how a cloning venture would work with just one guy, but...i mean go off i guess?"

So one of these rich assholes thought of the funny idea of cloning a guy named Garry over 50 times cause "why not lol"
@lordinquisitorsec7532Ай бұрын
Funny thing, that wasn't actually the experiment there. It was to test conflict for leadership positions in a vault that was designed to fail. The cloning was a side project that went horribly wrong

I love how all the ideas for vaults mentioned are actual vaults you can visit in the games
