Hello Aavak, If you can please try out large Shield Generator, I believe it Can be placed inside, but there must be no blocks 1-2 squares before it. Also there shoud be new DeckCanon whitch is practicaly huge Naval Battery, and it can be placed inside the ship. Have a lovely day.

to build bigger ships, there is a built in mod called bigger ships. the crew fame requirements can be changed at any time by going to current game:advanced settings. enjoying the playthrough keep it up :) Edit: gameplay to current game

Really enjoyed the thought process speed-up for the redesign! That's a lot better than just a quick cut to the final redesign, in my opinion, and better than doing full-blown building from scratch entirely in-video, too, like some were asking for.

The Hercules now looks like a giant railgun ship imo. I would also recommend building even a small railgun ship to try out the weapon because it has about the same range as the ion beam (if im remembering right) but it also doesn't have falloff damage at its max range unlike the ion beam. Loving the route you're going nonetheless keep up the great work!

The railgun has more range per accelerator section you built to a maximum of 600 I think and a min of 300 with no accelerators, the ion beam is 450 so a long enough railgun can outrange it by a fair bit

Yea, part of the problem the Fire Ant had during that one fight was that it launched a missile straight into an asteroid it was next to, effectively hitting itself with its own disruptor.

You can change fame/crew ratio in your advanced game settings without having to restart a new game, dunno who said you could only do it at game start, but you can absolutely change it in an active save along with difficulty and other options as well

I just picked up this game myself to try my hands at ship building. Besides learning that cannons are ridiculous to upkeep, I also learned that you can hail other ships that group up around stations to buy crew from them that require 0 fame. Usually only one at a time, unfortunately, but it's better than having a hard cap, eh? The most important thing that I figured out was armor layering. If an enemy ship is targeting a 3 block thick stack of armor that is built up as a tower, you can expect that they'll get through it with damage enough to destroy 3 blocks of armor. If you offset your armor, stacking it the same way as you might bricks in a house, the next shots trying to pinpoint will have to split damage between the next 2 blocks after the first, rather than only one after another. It would effectively give you 4 or 5 blocks of protection in any one section against pinpoint damage like lasers.

@Aavak I know it's probably been mentioned... as I know I mentioned it in my last tip dump, but you can hold *shift* to adjust the *ghosted waypoint* flight plans of your ships, including the *red* ones from *attack plans.* You can then hold *Alt* to swap between enemy *ship relative* and *world relative* positioning. For example, you can issue an attack order, then hold shift to grab the ghost node to maintain a specific position. Both *translation and rotation* can easily be adjusted via this method.

Those changes are great - really nice man, love it! Some stuff you might not know: - can set the weapon mode to auto-fire to just shoot continuously for testing (to see if crew can keep up) - can also set thrusters to auto-fire too to test those - can flip (as well as rotate) factories to change the resource sides

Aavak, I'm fairly sure that the Fire Ant EMP'd itself in that first fight. It looked like it fired as it went between the asteroids. Sadly, that is the only way for your missiles to hit you, if they detonate against something else while close enough to effect your ship. I have nuked myself because of shrapnel from another ship before. The shrapnel got caught on the front of the ship, the nukes launched, hit the shrapnel and the front of my ship went away. I, now, ALWAYS have a sloped front from a point, of sorts, all the way to the sides, purely so that wreckage is pushed aside as I move. Sometimes the point and slope is all the larger armour blocks, sometimes I have a sharp point. Any flat spaces, like for Ion Beam Prisms, are flush with the armour slope. Just a little something to be aware of, though the rear firing missiles gets rid of the majority of the risk, in open space. Yeah, 11:52 is where it happens.

11:50 If you look carefully the Fireant actually EMP'd ITSELF, because the missile impacted with the asteroid it had bumped up against. A good lesson to have learnt, asteroids and missiles do not tend to mix very well! Also as a personal suggestion, i would still recommend putting a good few Disruptors on the Fireant in case an enemy manages to close the distance too much. That way it could at least more directly disable systems.

I personally adore railguns even if they're frail, expensive (more than ion beams as they use ammo AND power) and finicky to aim if not perfect through the centerpoint of your ship. Their biggest benefits on the other hand make them soooo worth it: they can carve straight through enemies, essentially cutting them to pieces and their incredible range (of 600m wich is the same as EMP missiles) is the longest in the base game if I remember correctly. So maybe an idea for a long range artillery piece specialized for base busting? (edit: adding the idea)

There are 2 ways to make a ship longer, you can either enable the built in larger ship mod which affects game play in no way but simply allows larger designs, (I imagine it's only a mod as walt didn't want to affect performance on lower end devices), or put the Pythagorean theorem to use and build diagonally, as you have the ship grid width squared plus the ship grid height squared square rooted length to build in.

I have bought this game and after playing for 3 days I added a MOD, you might think that some MODs are OP and you will be right. However, one MOD caught my eye it is the Storage MOD that allows you to store more the MOD says it was late into the space age that we figured out that we can put stuff in boxs instead of just leaving stuff just lying on the floor . I found it funny and can not play without it.

May I suggest using deck guns and a copy of the Hercules as the base of a brawler warship, as a large amount of deck guns and thick armour would be a monster to see in action

So essentially, you've encountered what manual control is useful for. You can start dodging a lot of what is being thrown at you. In this case smart move would be to set your big boy per usual, then manual control the smaller fighter to get in behind the enemy. Also worth honorable mention is making a crew assignment specifically for the control room. They'll never leave the controls and you don't have your ship waffling off uncontrollably when you'd least like it to be.

You can hire crew from other ships not just stations. They are more expensive but have no fame required. Just park outside a hyperjump point and hail ships. Each ship will only have a small number of crew to sell but the ship traffic at the hyper point will make up for that. Edit: I stand corrected. They do have a fame requirement. Strange... I could have sworn they didn't when I hired them before...? 😕

Honestly. I feel like it could be really cool to have a gigantic spinally mounted railgun going down the middle of the hercules. Having it as its sole weapon that it can use to support the fight from the back lines. Which would also allow other ships to retreat to it for repairs

dat missile 11:15. Also after the missile(s) miss one seems to come back around and help finish the job against the enemy ship knocking out one of it's engines. Then after your one ship backs up into the asteroid there seems to be a large EMP detonation at 11:52 if you watch the minimap which knocked out a bunch of the systems close to it. Friendly fire missile it seems lol. I was laughing my butt off this whole time great video.

for me it seems that ramming a ship into something has an effect on the rooms closest to the impact. the Fireant was disabled from ramming into that asteroid, and the Hercules' forward right thruster-cluster went red when it collided

TBH, I'd be most interested in seeing you develop a small, super fast, flanking fighter armed with rear facing nukes, to whip in, get behind the enemy and hopefully take out their main thrust in the opening volley. On the rear bridge configurations, that might even 1 shot some of them. Do you really NEED such a support craft? Not really, but your current fighter rarely contributes much to your victory either.

I noticed you spaced out your factories. Put them as close together as you can and you get up to 125% production bonus. It' a puzzle game but doable to max out production for no extra costs

On the other hand, if the production bonus was on the OUTPUT not the SPEED, then I'd 100% tetris it up until I got the most bang for buck out of every bit of ore I used XD

I personally haven't found the speed bonus to be very useful as it still depends on how fast the crew can load/unload the factory. Ammo/missile factories on a combat ship might get more use out of factory speed bonuses though.

I think that these past two zones have proved that the Fire Ant is really only viable for the lower tier areas as small as it is, and needs an upgrade to a ship of much larger size to be more than a minor annoyance to enemy ships with its armaments. The Hercules doesn't need as much crew *right now*, since it is kept entirely out of combat, so can do with a lot smaller a crew compliment until you get your Fame up enough to buy more crew, and you can transfer that over to the second iteration of the Fire Ant (the principle of having a support ship isn't a bad one, just it needs to go to the next tier up at least, now; maybe move some of that missile unit production on-board, for example).

I like the way you recapped your builds. We got to see the entire design process, but it was nicely condensed down. Good job, have a like! EDIT: Would it be possible to not completely cut out all the salvaging? It's extremely satisfying to watch enemy ships being broken down and vacuumed into cargo bays, especially big stations and such. Maybe it could stay in as sped up footage as well?

I approve of the timelapses you snuck in while you were talking about the changes you made, whether inspired by me or just due to your incredible genius brain of dapperness. I’d love to see you using the 1000x1000 mod to make the Hercules the space warehouse it deserves to be. Also, I really like the idea of the fire ant’s position in combat being directly behind the Scarab, if you can bring its speed up it’ll never have to deal with frontward threats! Can’t wait to see how you build the fighter, diagonal ships hurt my brain but I’m inspired to give them a try after seeing yours.

I have to say, it really feels like the existence of the ion beam really takes away a lot of the interest in missiles from my perspective. long range, no special ammo requirements (which means no special factory or storage requirements), and it rips things apart crazy fast just fine. maybe if the AI was super strong and your second ship didn't derp around so much it would help, but overall... ion beam really just seems much better.

you can adjust the crew per fame levels at any time from the ingame options (i think its game settings - advanced options) I generally prefer to play games on slightly higher than standard difficulty but I did find the crew limits on standard to be a little to restraining.. perhaps an indicator that my ships are poorly designed, lol speaking of, love your designs, Im keen to see your take on a railgun ship

Nukes are not as dumb fire as you think. they get a shot burn straight out of the launch tube and only after that lock onto the target. So you can in fact launch them out of the fire ant without problems.

Minor note: The nukes are actually one-turn missiles, not dumbfire. They make a course correction toward the target after being launched but before activating their main thrust. That said, their ability to hit moving targets when being fired away from the target is much lower than other missile types. Also, I noticed you targeting the enemy's prisms with your ion cannons. Be careful when doing this, as prisms can redirect any ion beam, not just those fired by friendlies. They will take damage while redirecting a hostile beam, however.

In terms of allowing more crew - If you go to settings you can change the difficulty, and under advanced game settings the crew / fame ratio in the middle of the game? In my game I've set the crew / fame ratio up so I can run two fleets at a time. It'd be pretty op if you had all the crew in one big mothership.

It would probably be good to make the Scarab / DPR 1 a bigger ship... I feel like the enemy is getting better at a faster rate then your ships

You can change the amount of crew you can get mid game to. Just go to Settings, Current Game, Advanced Game options and change the Crew/Fame Ratio.

I would love it if you were to try using a bunch of smaller specialized ships in combat, either in a potential future playthrough or maybe just leaving the scarab at a station for a bit to try it out.

You can change the difficulty, and the advanced options during a game. Just go into settings.

I haven't had the opportunity to catch up on ur 9 hr stream yet so not sure if this is something that was covered but the new jump drives each take the space of a 4x4 storage, if u move them to the corner of that space u can then place 3 2x2 storages around each of them reclaiming some of the open space & if u fill atleast 1 of those with blue crystals around each drive it might help with the slow reload times to jump the Hercules.

The slow reload is the energy, not the hyperium, though your suggestion might apply in either case.

How abaut a high-speed nuke strike craft? A Ship with nukes on one side that just flys by enemes at max speed and delivers a nuke barrage at point blank whise flying by.
