Problem was elden beast could sometimes also attack you while projectiles were chasing you and their timings wouldnt match up so you would avoid one to get hit by the other which would then make the projectiles catch you completely and decimate you. ​@@Kamawan0

considering for just how long they supported this game post-launch, there's no way they "forgot" about it. You can still tell you were not meant to have torrent here, the fight is kinda janky with him in it, when I saw the patch notes I thought they'd make some changes to remove that jank, I don't think they did. Overall I'd bet on them just caving in, but it also looks like a last minute change to me, It's still a very welcome change though.

I’m going to be completely honest, I don’t think this fight was ever made with Torrent in mind. A lot of Elden beasts attacks are just going to be useless now. Elden stars poses no threat anymore. I think I am going to stick with fighting on foot.

Unpopular opinion, But I think Elden Beast is a great boss fight. I think it works best when you look at it as a sort of victory lap to Radagon. I don’t think the “boss too tedious because it runs away” is entirely valid, Elden Beast has absolutely MASSIVE openings where you can capitalize on huge damage, and a single stance break can be more than 1/3 of its health. That being said, it was always strange torrent couldn’t be used. He fits in great with the boss, both in gameplay and thematically. Being your companion for the entire game, using him against the final boss works well, and doesn’t feel out of place. It also doesn’t feel like he trivializes the fight, since elden beast has dozens of ways to knock you off him if you stay in torrent for too long. Though, there’s clearly still jank, with the golden shards bouncing torrent around. Strange how they added it now, of all times. They seemed really indecisive on whether or not torrent should be included in the final boss fight.

I 100% agree about the Elden Beast's openings and stance break, and its wind-ups and recovery frames are so long that fighting it on foot is practical, especially with any projectiles. However, I feel that Torrent is clearly getting caught on the Elden Beast's model and the flying needle attack was blatantly not designed for players to be able to virtually outpace the Elden Beast's own movements in the fight.

Thank you for calling out the jankness, I was really wondering what the fuck was going on there. I was thinking it was kind of crazy that the addition of Torrent in the end proves that they really thought he shouldn't be in the final fight. Which is crazy! Torrent fits into the final fight so perfectly thematically and from a design standpoint when EB runs the fuck away from you every 10 seconds.

Still not a big fan of this fight, but being able to summon Torrent definitely makes it a bit better and more fast-paced, considering how much the angry space amoeba likes running away. Also, I like it story-wise as well, the steed that chose you being with you until the very end.

Honestly, this looks like a mess. You get caught on the Elden Beast's model several times and get slid into random positions in a janky way, and you were lucky that it didn't push you right into some needles that could have killed Torrent and left you taking a huge combo. Also, Elden Stars, the dramatic "Phase 2" attack that marks a milestone in the fight, is an absolute non-factor, throwing off the balance and dramatic presentation.

Yessss, it's really janky, I think you can still absolutely tell this fight was never meant to have torrent, I already knew that because I tried torrent with mods before the update When I saw the patch notes I thought they'd have to have redesigned the boss in some major way to accommodate this change, but no Still I do understand why they caved in, it's just more fun that way, using jump off s to dodge his sword swings and do a heavy jump attack is peak imo.

@@clankymocha Personally, I think Torrent's inclusion in this fight might cause the opposite of fun. If the Elden Beast uses the attacks that Torrent easily renders moot, the fight is over too quickly to even take in the spectacle of the arena and the literal galaxies used as attacks. If the boss uses its harder moves, Torrent gets you combo'd from 100% to 0%, a frustrating experience. This caving might be lose/lose.

@@nightscout9979 honestly, I'd be inclined to agree if I didn't see elden beast hate literally everywhere, I'm literally the only person I know that loved this fight from the very beginning I never really understood the criticism, running and dodging are inherently active forms of gameplay, and I do find them fun, especially that a lot of it IS dodging and not just running And yet it feels like everyone hates this fight, imo, a good rule of thumb is that if a boss is not super well designed, it should at least try to be not frustrating, I think that's what they went with here If I could have it my way, I'd redesign the entire fight to accommodate for torrent.

@@clankymocha I think that the idea of the boss using zoning frustrates people more than the boss actually zoning. For example, Astel starts across the map and regularly teleports far away, leaving no hitbox to punish at range whatsoever, but its warping makes people not register that. The Elden Beast actually swimming around makes them feel outsped and much farther out of range than they really are. Also, both of Godfrey's phases and Radagon like to rush players down, so people get too wound up feeling chased to do the chasing. Additionally, with the boss designs that showed up frequently in Bloodborne and DS3, people might have gotten too used to dodging on the spot then immediately counterattacking. Having to cover ground while dodging may thus feel like it takes longer and leaves less chances to attack than rolling around a boss does.

I probably have a few theories to why they decided to add torrent to the fight only now. 1. The dlc bosses are gonna be much harder, so fromsoft decided to cut the players that want to beat the base game first some slack and did so since there's definitely gonna be a lot of people choosing to beat the base game first before entering the dlc. 2. They forgot to do so until the dlc is about to release and one of them probably decided that they should do it now. Whether you like this change or not, at least they did it now even if it was 2 years after the release.
