I mean. Loosely communicated that its mining and refining is not what word I would use. It was very clear from the start that it was meant for only fuel mining and refining, and I do not know how people thought otherwise from the texts about it and the devs talking about it.

was hoping that it was going to be a mining specific explorer. some sort of specialization that makes it easier for it to ID planetary/asteroid field ore compositions. now we're finding out if you scanning you should take a hornet. massive missed opp. pissed that the QA came so much later than the sale start. this thing is just a poor mans 890 now

I know I'm really late so this will be lost, but I am really glad that the ship's refinery is only for it's own fuel. I bought this ship as an exploration ship that I can use to just go out forever on. Hopefully respawn on if I really fuck something up, store a bunch of supplies, bring myself a smaller ship and a ground vehicle. Only stopping at stations to top up fuel and grab medical supplies/food/water. I see the mining/refining less as a main source of fuel and more as a backup so if I'm getting low I can build it up to get myself to a station to get full up.

Pretty much exactly what I expected, I think people need to chill and not FOMO with every ship sale. I upgraded my Carrack as I was having heaps of fun with 3.15 and wanted to reward CIG with $100. Also, you get a Carrack as a loner, plus another ahip. So for the next 5ish years, I can use the Carrack and once it is done, I can always buy a Carrack in game. Basically don't buy ships unless you want to support CIG. Honestly most people should just stop buying ships XD

This is why CCUs are great, as one can buy the ship, without spending $700 outright, and melt the CCU to reclaim the credit if they don't end up wanting it. I'll hang onto mine, until it comes out, and I get to check it out, but I didn't melt the Carrack for it. The bridge window will likely have a great view, as long as you don't need to look up or down, and if you can get close enough to it, unlike in the typical MISC ship, due to the massive dashboards.

The Carrack can EXPLORE pretty far. The Odyssey can go REALLY far, but it can't do all the exploration stuff, it makes up for it with the ability to carry a bunch of stuff to compensate.

There is one thing about alien technology in ships which gives me that chill. If in deep space and far from any civilisation, if the antigrav tech fails you cant fix it. Or atleast I presume you cant because its not human! You may need to go to the manufacturer or authorised reseller to replace damaged or broken parts. Antigrav also is expensive to replace and maintain. Always keep spare parts avail and thats also for any ship and make or manufacturer. Always be prepared for anything.

6:00 the Odyssey has a dual vehicle hangar (2x XXS) AND a small ship hangar (1x XS), so it's specialisation will come from whatever vehicles you decide to carry with it, which many other ships can't do - in effect making it modular without the modules. A Carrack cannot carry a Prospector for example. The Odyssey is almost entirely self-sufficient when it comes to fuel as only one other ship in the whole game is concepted to have an on-board refinery which is another MISC ship (which the Odyssey can also carry).

I believe that the Odyssey will be out flight ready for Pyro. Many players forget that Pyro will be 3x larger than Stanton and only have a handful of locations to refuel. You will need ships like the Odyssey just to explore Pyro and other future systems. The other systems may have zero locations to refuel making the Odyssey very useful.

I have a massive Problem on this topic , Due to the Fact that in real life we have Car killers and Space Ship Killers and Boat Killers , Competition is the Spice of Life , Star Citizen needs More variety in Ships capability , i want a ship that's Far Better or same as The Carrack but Rsi Version of it , i would pay for it also . yes the Carrack is a good looking space Ship But in star Citizen there are different Company's for a reason there needs to be Competition to be pushed out and it will hurt the Game if we keep limiting the ships because 1 small Group dont want Carrack killer's but i am not liking that there is 1 only ship that is powerful to do that 1 thing better then all the others , thats a very narrow view minded way of thinking on people that say we only want 1 ship that can do things better then all the others . i dont mind the Carrack but i say there needs to be more in that class range and size asap

the fact CIG fucked us with the odyssey like this, makes me want to liquidate my 5k spent on game. I didn't CCU my carrack, but I bought the ccu for odyssey. I KNEW it wasn't an mini Orion, that never made sense, it was obviously to refuel itself, however ALL of these Q&A were horseshit. No specialized scanners? $700 ship, exploration? Premier? Excuse me? wtf? Take a terrapin along? God damn, why? Sick bro, no captains quarters? Because it isn't military, what is this a democracy? No one controls the ship? Name 1 ship like that, fucking 1. A Cruise ship isn't military.... This ship is a nothing sandwich, could have been awesome.

the odyssey seems like that generalized ship play for players that don't want anything specific, like the carrack. Its a ship to just live on with ur friends and just have a nonchalant type of gameplay. doesn't seem like the odyssey is meant FOR exploration but it just kinda lays in that genre because you cant really sell a ship and say its like, "The Odyssey - Amateur, Generalized Gameplay At It's Finest - Coming 2023" or some shit. Idk how to say what im saying haha cant think of a comparison.
