No farmers, no food! Our hearts go out to all the farmers and ranchers experiencing prolonged high temps and no rain. We dairy farmed for about 30 years and understand how dependent we are for rain for growing crops. One year it was so dry it reminded me of Elijah’s time and we looked for a cloud and prayed for rain.

How about a water pump that runs off a PTO on your tractor. Fire hose and a line of sprinklers. Pump water from the creek. The creek always has water. Use it when you need it, like now... Get them pastures green again...

It's brutal here in Utah also. Our snowpack last winter was lacking, to say the least. The Great Salt Lake has been reduced to puddles to the point that one could walk out to the islands without getting your feet wet. I'm 70 years old and I've never seen The Lake completely disappear. It is scary!

38°c, luscious Aussie summer weather. Our farmers have struggled through many years of drought, and Australia being Australia, switched from drought conditions to major flooding event. I love a sunburnt country, a land of open plains, of rugged mountain ranges, of drought and flooding rains. Hope your rains come soon but only in moderation, soil needs a good long soaking, not short drenching.

Prayers for rain. Here in Nevada we’re used to this hot weather ( you never get used to it) 😣but we dread every summer 105-120. Our lake mead is losing so much water, it’s horrible. We’ve been in drought for years and people are just now starting to realize it. Very sad for this whole country right now, farms, animals and the people that work hard to maintain it all🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

And I thought it was bad when we stayed in the 70's at night! I am fortunate that we have had some rain. I did sell off about half my goat herd mainly because of the price of hay this year. Then my neighbor offered me his second cutting for the price of fuel, he got all he needed with his first cutting. That was a blessing, so long as we got enough rain. We just have a few more days of high heat and humidity left. The hottest yet this summer. Been debating on letting them stay out in the run in because it gets so warm in their barn. (In the process of building a paddock for them in the run in) It's just not goat tight yet. Been praying for all the farmers west of me for rain.

The weather in Central Michigan is terrible for us as well, but not as bad as Texas and Oklahoma. We’ve had the 90s with heat index of hi 90s and continuing for another 2-3 weeks, but at night it is 70. The humidity is what is bad. It is at 60-96%. So, I pray God sends the rain and some refreshing temperatures for you and the animals. Water is necessary by all. Keep hydrated, fed, and safe. God bless y’all.💕🙏🏻🙋🏼♀️

According to permaculture, eating a pasture down and then rotating to a new area is good basic management. Interesting that the goats adapted to being fed and you are working to get them back to normal foraging. Nice illustration of how the trees help cool things and keep grass growing. If you ever can get bulk soil amendments to work with, about 50 years ago, Butte Junior College in CA ran tests between built-up soil and regular soil and the rate of grain production difference in just a few acres was astounding. I've never forgotten.
@LOUISCLAY012 жыл бұрын

You can see how much the donkeypoodles like the cold showers. It’s a good thing they got sheared in time. This summer will be one for the record books as far as heat and dryness. Even here in Wisconsin we’ve had many days over 100 and the rains are light and far between. This morning we got 0.05 inches. My small garden is stressed. I water it but it’s not the same as rain. Maybe you can get a mister set up for the animals. You probably still have hot temps in august. July is our hottest and gradually decreases after July. 60 s in September, 50 s and 40s for October , 40 s and 30 s for November with snow beginning. Stay cool.

Cut their grain feed way back so they’ll have to browse graze. Mine do the same thing. The lady who has a goat 🐐 in with mine who’s the caretaker at my barn and pasture was feeding 3 times a day. Then my pasture was over starting to get overgrown . I finally told her to stop feeding 3 times a day so they’d eat the pasture down. She went to just 4pm feeding once daily & they went back to grazing again. But my pasture was starting to get sapling trees becoming overgrown in bramble and weeds, things a goats 🐐 love ❤️! But they wasn’t touching it because they was getting fed so much.
