Here are some fun... hm, I guess that's not the right term, is it. Here are some sad facts about Jonathan's death: Firstly, even though it's still weird today, back when this was written in 1987, killing off your main character was a complete story taboo (let alone continuing the story without them. Araki had to argue with his editor to let him do it. He wanted to teach the lesson that even if a person is gone, part of them is still here in the persons they met and the ones who came after them. Something he had recently felt in his own flesh when his grandfather died just some time before starting to write JoJo. And secondly, the anime staff confirmed that Kazuyuki Okitsu, Jonathan's voice actor or seiyuu, shed some tears while recording his death scene. Rest In Peace, Jonathan Joestar. Yeah, Araki had a long history of having to fight against the editors in order to push what he wanted for the story, and unfortunately he didn't manage to win every battle. For example, he actually wanted for Lisa Lisa in part 2 to be even more of a badass and be more active in the battles, but the editors shut it down.

Jonathan's death is rally iconic. at the time JoJo started, noone would EVER a protagonist in a shonen manga dying, and so early in the story too. Most probably thought the story would've ended here. And what a way to go. Jonathan, like zepelli, knew his end was coming and so used the last of his strength to destroy the zombies, save erina and make sure Dio dies with him, having one last weirdly sentimental moment with his 'brother'. That shot of his dead body is VERY iconic and hits hard, espcially when you realise jsut how YOUNG he was when he died. I myself am a Phantom Blood enjoyer. It's not my fave part and I feel it can be a bit TOO fast paced personally, but I love the focus on action horror and weird ass zombies and vampires and the characters, while basic, do have some elements of depth to them and can be likeable. (you pointed out something I never realised about Erina and you're right despite being such a classic "damsel to be protected" she does have moments showing her strength of character, showing she isn't a wimp) And so ends the story of Jonathan Joestar. But it isn't called JoJo's for nothing, so who knows what the next JoJo will be...we'll find out...in america.

It was so refreshing to rewatch part 1 with you two, harking back to a simpler time. Well, music references are all over JoJo. Dio Brando is named after British rock star Dio (and French actor Brando), Speedwagon, Tarcus, Bruford are all names of rock bands and musicians, Zeppelli is named after Led Zeppelin, so no wonder Wang Chan is also a music reference. The thing about "the first part is bad" isn't that it's bad. It's pretty damn good, as you have noticed. However, it FEELS old and unpolished. Mostly because it is. You have to understand when the anime came out. In 2012. The manga of Part 1 was written almost 30 years prior at that point. When it was released people simply didn't watch it because the first 8 episodes felt so clicheed. Part 1 is BY FAR the least sort of original of the JoJo series. And the least bizarre, too. When I told people that JoJo is incredible in 2012, I had read all of the manga (released at that time). They were seeing the first five episode. I thought JoJo was the most intelligently written manga ever. And they thought JoJo was not nearly as good as I was hyping it up. But we were both right. Jojo has some of the most intelligent fights I've ever read. Just not in Part 1. Remember when JoJo became a phenomenon in the west. It started in around 2015 to '16. That was when Part 3 just about ended. People were realizing that there's some merit to this series. But from JUST watching Part 1, JoJo seems like a fairly good series with little more going for it. It also has a REALLY rough start. Like, watching JoJo is like being told "Here, I've got a 6 course meal for you and you're gonna love the 4th meal. But the first course is a piece of toast." Like, viewers probably just felt like everyone saying JoJo is the best thing since sliced bread are fucking insane.

That little bit at the end was a teaser for Part 2. And while Part 1 doesn't have too many haters, it's also few fans' favorite. If you liked Part 1, you're gonna love the rest of the series. "How are they gonna top Jonathan?" *Smiles in JoJo veteran.* I loved Ant's brief frustration with Wan Chang but is clearly starting to get into the groove with all the music references. I do hope one or two still manage to throw him. I know I'm frustrated one of the most dangerous opponents in Part 3 is named after THAT "rapper."

Hello! We have reached the end of part 1 where back at 1987 araki shocked everyone by killing the protagonist. He was already breaking the mold and creating tropes from here on. Now for the final references in part 1 ^_^ (Two references I forgot about dio) Dio's vampire form may be a reference from Dio's song "I Speed a Night" Dio's design may be inspired from Dio's album "Sacred Heart" Now the final references: Wang Chan's name is inspired by the 80s Pop group Wang Chung. The farmer testifying about the presence of Jonathan and Co. (though he does not know their name) is named Jeff Beck, after the guitarist of the same name. Father Styx is named after the American rock band Styx. The whole premise of Part I parallels Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, in that both take place in the closing years of the 19th Century and involve a young adult protagonist named Jonathan interacting with and defeating a charismatic vampire. Don't remember if there is any notable memes in this final episode but I shall edit here as I watch the reaction. Edit: no notable memes but I shall put my own to honor Jonathan's death... Episode 3: "Goodbye Jojo!" Man is it always nostalgic to see part 1 end. Cant wait to see you guys in part 2, where in my opinion has the best jojo ^_^ (only rivaled by part 6 jojo) Oh and i don't think ya realised but Jonathan bumping his head on the door and dropping his wine were all signs that Jonathan had become too complacent and were the first signs of his downfall (zepelli said to never drop his wine :P).
