Man, that thing is just horrid. I have a small channel and I am growing fast. I got a legit offer from a Chinese company to rep a bunch of their music gear. It was all complete garbage and there was no amount of money or free gear I would take from them to showcase it in any video. The Chinese do this all the time. It's part of the culture. I know from experience. My friend has a tea and clothing shop. A Chinese couple came in, checked it out complimenting everything taking some pictures, buying some gifts. He found out there was a shop exactly like his, including the name, in China six months later. They don't give a damn. They'd rather rip you off once, than have a repeat satisfied customer. If they can sell one of these 'guitars' and you hate it, that's one sale. That's why they don't want the word out, before they've sold enough to make a sizable profit. Then it's on to the next scam, regardless of the market. Beware! And Prost!

It is shameful and, in my mind, not what China really was years ago...but gov.s flip....bad people get in charge..and the people do whatever they need to do...to feed their kids etc Till they find their soul again...Id avoid all of it. I spent $300 on my YRG-1000, and that at least came with a whammy bar for bends. That product line failed because they advertised it as a "Guitar Hero Remote Controller" instead of a somewhat-functional MIDI guitar for people who don't play piano. Who thought it would be a good idea to revive a failed product, with less functionality, for twice the price? And if you're considering buying one of these - you can get a B-Stock Jamstik Studio for $699 instead which doubles as a real guitar.

This is a midi piano in the shape of a guitar. I’ve seen people in other demos approach it that way, and actually get results. But you are absolutely right - there are several aspects of an actual guitar that this is simply not suited for replicating or practicing for.

In my 15 yrs in marketing, company heads notoriously push their own narrative and original vision. It’s well rehearsed AND was how they secured investors. “We need to pivot.” is a ‘sunk cost’ statement that many young entrepreneurs can’t handle. It’s no different than when I cowrite with an artist and I remind them, “Your job is to connect with the listener’s feelings of their own breakup…. Not to make your shitty breakup their problem.”

Yeah, there are "cultural" differences. They went to NAMM because they think they can sell this through retailers. That means it's profitable to them at 60% of their normal retail price. It'd be interesting to see if any music stores took them up on it. My guess is they were aiming for a deal with a chain of big box stores.

I was curious what would come of the conversation but given the history of brands like that I wasn’t optimistic they would really change and it was more about buying a way to look like they cared to placate but keep on doing the same stuff. I saw the drumming thing at NAMM but wondered how good based off that guitar. This just keeps snowballing horribly. I see they are marketing it as a midi controller. Plastic midi controllers usually cost a lot less than $500. All of my controller keyboards & pad consoles were $80 to $260 USD. A $400 keyboard/midi/instrument that I have is a very feature-packed instrument which a person can learn on.

I live in South Korea, and you're right that karaoke is super popular in Asia. Most often you get a private room, sometimes you could fit 10-12 people, more commonly 1-3. The rooms for 1-3 would have no space for a guitar. I'm not sure how many non-guitar players would even pick it up. Chances are that after-work crowd is going to cover it in soju and cigarette ashes. If the Aeroband guitar had a mic input, and mic/instrument output...then it might be able to connect to the speaker/PA/karaoke machines in the rooms. But then you're going to need good hardware in the guitar, and it's going to be way more money. And most karaoke places are using wireless microphones. Crap product. Thank you Henny for being transparent.

I remember as a child having one of those toy keyboards that worked with batteries or an adapter and those were better products or at least, not full of bullshit like the thing you have held onto for months; And I learnt twinkle twinkle little star with them. Just wow…they payed you for a consultation, but in fact this was likely an attempt to placate you, i.e. pay you off. They never had any genuine interest in improving their product, or in what you had to say most likely. They are probably counting on the fact that their target customer which is an uniformed, possibly gullible non musician/beginner/impulse buyer won’t be reached or affected by your channel or similar ones. What a bunch of nefarious actors!

I got one for free to review for a "website", I gave an honest review like you, my 6 year old daughter had fun with it for an hour but Im a (not great but ok) guitar player and I found it absolutely useless. They contacted me via the "website" asking me to change my review and I simply said I stood by what I had said. It sits in the corner now and my daughter loves having a go with my real guitars. I did find it ok as a midi controller, but frankly I normally use a £40 keyboard for that which is fine.

Guitars aren't native to China. Apparently the first time an electric guitar was played in China was as late as only 1982. So they don't really 'get' them in the way Westerners do. Reminds me of stories I hear of them being introduced to expensive French wines for the 1st time and then preferring to serve them mixed with cola. Having said that, their DJI drones and pocket cameras with built-in gimbals are quite innovative and different to Western equivalents, in a good way.

Better is to buy some Harley Benton staff for learning, after some tweaking is great guitar for beginners, only thing is to nice to fix, is to change plastic nut to bone, local guitar master will easy fix it. Then it stays better in tune after bending.

I expect the issue is that they've invested heavily in manufacturing loads of units that they now need to sell. It would probably be better for them to sell them in Asia, but I think £500 is going to be way too expensive in those markets, too. V2.0 could be a lot better, but they'll need to spend more to make it happen & it still won't have much appeal for people who already play guitar.
