The old heads and seasoned veterans of hip hop are in the building! They are the foundation and the reason why Math Hoffa and other rappers are even making money and eating off the hip hop culture! All rappers owe their rap careers to the Sugar Hill Gang, Mele Mell and the Furious Five and other pioneers! Listen and respect your elders! As hip hop heads we have to respect the foundation or all of hip hop will fall apart.

Melle has old school conservative views when it comes to community, manhood, respect, and you can tell Bigga loves that sh!t. Bigga's often clowned because these values mean very little today. Math is on point with his explanations of why values have changed. The old and young could teach each other a lot, but the mutual disrespect has to change first.

The FUNNIEST thing about this episode is the subject of "respect" . I am an "old head" in hip hop ,so I remember Caz and Mel shitting on young rappers for damn near 2 decades . I remember Caz and Mel at the New Music Seminar back in 88 (I believe) jumping on "younger" rapper Mikey D and taking the belt from him after he beat Mel in a battle . I guess it aint no fun when the rabbit has the gun lol . Why should the youngins show respect when they have been getting dissed without being given a chance or even a conversation . Instead of embracing the youngins and trying to understand why they do it the way they do it , they just diss and clown em . I will tell you this --- when I was growing up in hip hop in the 70's and 80's , very rarely did anyone "pay homage" to the elders before us . Remember Stetsasonic claiming that " Tell the truth , James Brown was old , until Eric and Ra came out with , ' I got soul " ... " Most "old heads" wanting respect is about EGO . Respect is a 2 way street though ...

But, let's take a step back and see what has happened. That crack epidemic was planned and planted within Black communities and nearly destroyed it. Black people no matter how gifted, talented, and educated are still being paid less than our worth - if not underemployed or just unemployed. It's very difficult to have successful families in this society that is always a climb up a mountain for Black people. Even those of us that made it to middle class or even "rich" had to compromise a bit to get their and then try to maintain a lifestyle because the rug could always be pulled from under us here in this country.

The reason why these kids don’t respect the elders is because of that damn smart phone and the fact that most parents today act just like their kids. We don’t act like these kids’ elders. We too busy trying to relate to them and be their friend because hip hop culture got us older heads scared to get old. Hip hop music has really stagnated our mindset. The smart phone also got them thinking they know everything and social media made them worthless opinions important, therefore they think they are our equals. Add the fact that we got adults also encouraging their behavior too.

I always love listening to Melle he’s always 100 n he’s from da Boogie down and he’s an originator from the original hip-hop. Wisdom n straight forwardness comin from yo grandpa! And Grandmaster CAZ Damn that is hip- hop Royalty cuz they started it all! Everybody listened to them or copied they style comin up! Only other person they needed was “Kool Moe Dee” he created dis rappin and speed rappin! They was in Beat Street, Wild Style. First movies about hip- hop!!! If you don’t know them you not hip- hop you just a rappin opportunist.
