So during the introduction of Harley in the 90's in the animated Batman show, Harely breaks up with Joker near the end and goes in adventures with Ivy. The show runners intended to show them dating but were denined by the studio execs. Harley and Ivy have been a pairing in comics for a while now. It's actually one of the better relationships in DC.

harley and ivy didn’t kiss because “fans wanted it to happen” they are literally a canon couple in the comics so it made sense for them to be a couple in the show.

Glad you all are caught up on spoilers and still enjoying! The kiss wasn't just fan-service, Ivy and Harley had been confirmed as being in a "non-monogamous" relationship for several years in the comics leading up to the cartoon show. In the comics, Harley first suspected Ivy had feelings towards her during a series they shared with Catwoman called GOTHAM SIRENS. At the time, Harley was still not fully over Joker and wasn't ready to acknowledge feelings for others. Obviously, that changed later.

@@SonicMegaKing Harley has been pretty clear about having moved on from Joker in the mainstream comics too now for a few years, and had speeches about it with multiple characters including the new Joker accomplice Punchline. That said, you're absolutely right it's a big and recurring issue in comics to deeply show a monogamous queer relationship or even any other sort of healthy queer relationship, particularly when one or both is a major player who can hold their own series, and it is definitely something we've seen done poorly time and time again. Calling her and Ivy non-monogamous can be interesting if done right but too often certain creator used that as an excuse to just not address their relationship for months on end. I'm still salty about how they broke up Batwoman from her fiancee for no real reason other arguing that superheroes and anti-heroes shouldn't have good relationships, which is so limiting.

However Grant Morrison had forgotten that and then wrote the new backstory, they were conveniently helped out by Superboy Prime punching and rewriting reality which brought back Jason and changed Damien

Imma say a thing, as a person who doesn't fit easily into neat boundaries of sexuality. Also as a person who has lived a long life with a LOT of friends landing in multiple categories beyond just binary concepts. The joy of Harley/Ivy is the haunting, bittersweet, self DISCOVERY...not the complicated realities that come with that...just...like...life. Some people are gay, all in, nothing else is possible. Some people are straight...all in, nothing else is possible. But some people are bi (WAY more than the world is comfortable with) ...and there are curves to this that complicate it further: degree of same sex attraction versus opposite sex attraction...AND level of self awareness and willingness to actually live it openly. Bisexual people have the ability to sustain relationships with either sex...and can start their lives with complete comfort in a traditional opposite sex relationship...but that can change when they least expect it. They have the capacity for same sex attraction, but for some people it doesn't arise quickly or seem like a real option...until one day it does...and that can be just as hellish as anything anyone else goes through. You create a world of expectations and then can't live up to them...and the only honorable thing to do is to ultimately choose to be truthful to yourself and others. In decades, I've seen every sitch crop up here or there. A 40 year old woman realizing that she can finally do what she wants after the end of a 20 yr marriage and having to explain her new gf to her 16 yr old daughter...a 25 yr old man explaining to his dad that, even though he is bi, he met a woman that he can be honest with an wants children with, so they were getting married...a 19 yr old woman cancelling an engagement after dating a guy for a year because she realized that a lifetime pretending she didn't like women would be a lifetime of lies...and she'd picked a man who was kind and handsome and safe...and deserved someone that felt exactly as he did...a trans person who refused to live it until after they'd cared for their dying parents, then restarted their new life as their truest self in their 40s because they no longer feared emotionally wounding their beloved parents. You name it, I've seen it. In my case, I knew I was pretty damn gay at 11...first crush in JH on a track and field dude made it obvious, and the lack of interest in girls was suddenly explainable. Less obvious was that years later I noticed that I did feel attraction to a very small percentage of women. Still far too gay to pose as straight, even if I am butch enough to 'pass' easily. Deceiving people is inherently wrong...but self deception and lack of self awareness aren't the same sitch by a long shot. What if I'd been the opposite on the spectrum? Mostly straight and never needed to think otherwise until years later? Would I have already made commitments, created expectations, then found myself in a situation where I'd locked out things that were essential to being truthful to myself? Probably. I have no easy answers. My only recommendation is look inside, know thyself, and then be truthful with the people you love. It IS awkward...and difficult...but the best relationships are all built first on trust...and that is impossible to sustain with deceptions and evasions. So...is Ivy cheating on Kiteman authentic as a dilemma or just a cheap trope? Both things exist in the same space...and people who have walked that tightrope understand it. It might be just as easily argued that a worse, or less realistic/more pandering trope, would be instant understanding, instant true love, no complications or consequences and merry hijinks ensue. It would ring false in all the ears that matter...and track as downright fluff. For all the complexities and ups and downs of the ride as Harley/Ivy work out where they stand, it makes sense, resembles the crises that people authentically face in the process of coming out at their own time and at their own pace, and is a joy to watch...at least for some of us who have seen so many similar circumstances emerge holistically in people actual lives. Living in an era where its represented in media instead of silenced and stifled...is a joy I can't adequately describe...because I emerged from an era of deadly silence and near total media blackout of all things related to human sexuality. Not all representation is good ...but this tracks as so far more good than bad that it really isn't a contest. Sorry for the long read...but some things deserve the space necessary to say them right.

The Joker stuff always catches people off-guard because you always associate the insane and chaotic part of his character (and the toxic hyperfixation on Batman) rather than the insanely 4D Chess cunning intelligence he has. Man will play you like a fiddle for jollies and misdirection, especially when it comes with a Keyser Soze-esque fake backstory. But in this case, he was mostly amnesia'd into sanity...for now. Ironic though that Bane is actually doing better rehabilitation for villains in his pit than Arkham has done for decades, except for the Cheryl part that woman has zero allegiances. So everyone was expecting Harley and Ivy to happen in this show, it's been done very well in the comics ever since writers got the green light to advance on their vibe made apparent since BTAS. Honestly though? I was a little upset with how rushed it felt this season, like we knew the romance with Kite Man had an expiration date but it was all very sudden, especially given how they were both talking about her having a happy life with Kite Man that Ivy was actually excited for. So for me at least it felt like the writers got a little bit impatient

The Dark Knight Returns and therefore Carrey is an elseworlds story. Stephanie Brown, the daughter of trapmaster in this show was the Robin after Tim Drake but it was so brief it is rarely counted because she moved to Batgirl almost immediately and then spoiler down the road who she is in Young Justice.

The only good example of Bisexuals being introduced is Brooklyn 99. It sucked for me because I actually liked Kiteman, but you aren't wrong. Cheating plots are stupid for main characters. Makes me like the characters less. Still enjoyed the show.

It works in the show cause the show itself is built around the journey to and development of their relationship. Comic wise, meh, just feels like corporate pride rep and when it’s outside of pride anthologies both characters feel like their edges have been sanded down to be cute and bi.
