Single handing is a blast and a huge confidence builder to me. Couple of strict rules and it can be safe. Never step outside the cockpit with the boat in gear, in case you fall over. Always wear an automatic inflation floatation device of you are anywhere on deck outside the cockpit too. Take your time. Radio agead for dockhands once close to docking destination if uou aren't comfortable docking solo. Really not that bad. Main risk is if you fall overboard while under way and yiu can negate that by going into nuetral when you have to go out on the deck or leave the helm. Did it too many times to count. Just take your time. Can't be in a rush. Congratulations on your first solo on that beast. Beautiful boat.

You have put alot of miles on MV Mermaid Monster. You two have become Highly Skilled Captain's. I'm kinda surprised Braden hasn't moved the boat alone, he definitely has the knowledge. My only critique would be.....never ever go out on deck with out a life jacket on. Sadly a good friend on mine was alone on his 60 foot SeaRay and he went out on deck to put lines and fenders out and slipped and went overboard into 41 degree water. The boat was in gear. The boat went aground on a beach and his body was found a week later in 150 feet of water. Gary was also a very skilled Captain but he made one big mistake.

Now maybe one upgrade you can do to mermaid monster or when you get mermaid monster 2 would be dynamic positioning so when it's not safe to go on the hook you could still hold your pinpoint position on the map without without having to anchor

This was one of the most enjoyable videos in your library of exceptional videos, Braden. I've cruised at night single handed and it always felt risky. IOW, even though I "made it", it didn't increase my confidence in single handed night time cruising.

You are a pretty rude guy dude. Brooke is just showing the realities of life on the water. Both good and bad. Go find a wife that would be out there doing this as tough as she is. Only a small portion of our life is on film. It’s important to show both sides. If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it at all. I love her and am beyond proud of her.

So a search and rescue guy gave my wife and I a boat tour the other day. Told us a story about a guy who went out alone. He fell of the back of his boat. The boat - on autopilot - crossed Lake Huron and crashed into something. They back traced the GPS to find the drowned captain. 😢 Scary. Glad it worked out.

When you are running with a 62, can you tell much difference in the ride between the 2 boats? Also, in the cruising speed?
@ABOARDMERMAIDMONSTER
@ABOARDMERMAIDMONSTER Жыл бұрын
Very different ride. 62 cruises quicker than us. They are rolly in beam seas. We are super sturdy in a big beam sea. Don’t feel it. They take head seas like a champ and we rock and roll in them. They r both awesome vessels

One of the most hilarious things my dad did was while trying to open a 5 lb bag of skittles it pulled in 2. We all went rushing upstairs to figure out the crash. Him sitting there hands folded and skittles everywhere says the cat did it. Said cat had been missing for a week. 😂
