Trained hair is probably damaged hair. I've had curly hair my whole life and only experienced less shrinkage when I moved to the desert due to the lack of humidity. Folks don't believe it's butt length until I flat iron it, but who cares. Rock the curls😂

How you train hair in braids?? I used to wear wash n gos when I first big chopped but it was just a time management issue to do wash n goes as my hair grew longer. Now I wear plaits and twist outs only. The only thing I trained was my time management skills. Hair doesn’t need training to grow just a solid consistent routine.

it depends. Looser curls do have less shrinkage because of the weight of their hair pulling them down. This can also be true with type 4 hair but isn’t always the case

This is only true untill your hair gets very very long. Long hair is heavy so once it gets extra long there's more weight meaning the curls get pulled out a bit. Perfectly normal, the hair is still healthy, just weighs more!

Try using senna as your deep conditioning. It’s neutral henna so no color but all the pros of henna. It wraps your hair in PERMANENT protein. Makes hair shiny and fills in cuticles. So it makes your hair heavier which can help stretch your hair by weighing it down. It doesn’t change hair patterns but it can slightly change texture.

if your curls are naturally looser than that, it would make a difference as it gets longer because of the weight of it. my curls are quite loose compared to yours but when it was shorter it would shrink quite a bit but now its longer the curls generally just look looser and its weighed down a bit.

I was just over the moon when my hair finally sat right on my shoulders after the shrinkage. No more stretching methods or tugging on it all day trying to relax the curl. I’m definitely team healthy hair over long hair but IJS this was a milestone for my hair growth journey. 🙏🏽 I finally understand now that some people’s hair grows long and some people’s hair grows upwards and gets fuller . I may never have bra strap length hair ever again (because I’m 50) at least not without heat. But I’m grateful for the health and fullness

It only stops the shrinkage if the curl pattern is changed. That can happen with chemical or heat damage. It can also happen with age or illness.

I think it depends on the hairtype, curl pattern, etc. my hair is 3B, and the longer it gets, the less shrinkage i get because of the weight of it pulling at the curls at the top of my head. Meanwhile my sister has thick 3c hair and has the same shrinkage regardless of length. And my brother has 3c hair that works the same as mine.

I can’t wait for my hair to grow longer. My last relaxer was in May and I’ve been wearing box braids since. Washing every two weeks at least with the brains in and doing them over one by one. But I completely took them out to do a protein treatment and deep conditioning, and the difference in my natural roots and shaft vs my permed ends was crazy. I like my curl pattern, I still can’t wait for it. In the braids all summer, I got a good 4 inches of growth.

Hey y'all, the beauty is in the struggle.. So when I have shrinkage after washing (the whole routine) and twisting my 4c hair, I just retwist it after it dries. It stretches it out quite a bit and it's fluffy and elastic. I used to be like let me hurry up and blow it out or hotcomb before it gets too tight but I don't fret with that like I used to. I've learned how to deal with and love my hair.
