Wow! Back in 1966, I worked on those DC-6Bs for United Air Lines. I loved working on them I was 'sheetmetal/structural repair" mechanic. I also worked on B-727s, DC-8s CV- 340s, Caravelles, and more. Glad to see that old bird put to good use up there. "Happy Flying"!

I'm glad you like this book. It sounds like a very useful and informative resource for shed-building enthusiasts. kzbin.infoUgkxzaRUJNcbypw-fRBDbqqz43ULIa-1EGP- The author seems to have a lot of experience and knowledge on how to build sheds of different styles and purposes. You must have learned a lot from his tips and examples. The photos are also impressive, they demonstrate the quality and beauty of the sheds. The book itself is also well-made, with glossy, thick paper and a soft cover that is pleasant to touch. This book is a wonderful choice. blush

Nah, I’m gonna say this was probably the dumbest way to spend your hard earned money. $800,000 for 700 sq ft of narrow space in a useless airplane. And the work that was done to it for the price was between mediocre and horrible. Would’ve made more sense to build a second home and purchase a 2nd small plane for training purposes.

What a passion project! Some missed opportunities in terms of interior design I feel. Could have been more aero themed as it was standard design inside. The seating area could have had first class couches facing a wall with the tv and a fold down shelf on the wall. Doorbell switch could have been the "call attendant" button. They should have had one of those attendant carts as a mobile bar!

.... Wow !! A fantastic use of repurposing a structural unit into something functional ..... I grew up north of Denver , Co. and there was a commercial aircraft fuselage built into a roadside diner ... It was pretty cool to see .... in the area of Erie,Co. .... Don't know what current status of it is ,,if it's still around ... this was late '60's --early '70's .... Building one is a huge undertaking but multiples ?? WOW !! ..

I’ve seen a few other people that bought and used an aircraft for a home or airbnb. One, which I believe is in Bali was nicely done as I recall, but the other couple I’ve seen aren’t anywhere as nice as this one. You guys have done a great job. If you have a long enough runway, or one that’s close to you, would it be cheaper to buy the decommissioned aircraft and have it flown to your own airstrip, or one close by? You could then strip the parts and sell them to whomever buys that stuff. It would be a lot more work, but you wouldn’t have any transportation costs other than regular trucks to transport the engines, monitors, computers and whatever other equipment that is typically purchased from these aircraft. Seeing that you already have a couple additional plans, perhaps you don’t need anymore. If your flight school isn’t opened year round, if not already done, you should put the planes on airbnb. I’ll bet there are a lot of people that would enjoy staying in a plane.
@westtexasduster
@westtexasduster Жыл бұрын
If the plane was capable of being ferried (not airworthy mind you, just capable of a one time flight), then it could easily end up costing 4x as much. These aircraft have likely been cannibalized over a decade or more to keep the rest of the fleet going, so the amount of parts and maintenance required to get them up in the air for just one flight would cost more than finding one that was capable of flying as-is. I addition to that, there's a high probability that the airstrip they have is simply too small to land one of these airliners and is only able to accommodate small aircraft. It would be a bit tragic to cut up an airworthy plane just to turn it into one of these houses, the only reason why they did it to this one is because it was essentially only worth the melt price of the aircraft itself because everything of real value was removed.

I think one of those attachments should go up higher and make it look like a airport tower. It would allow the people staying go up for a Birds Eye view while staying in it. It could just be a spiral staircase or added interior space. You already have attachments, make the most out of one so you have the plane and the tower all in one.
