I whole heartedly believe this movie would’ve been 100x better if Ke Huy Quan reprised his role as an older Short Round. Phoebe Waller-Bridge did a decent job, but her character was too antagonistic towards Indy for no reason. If her character was replaced by Short Round, someone who has a deep and genuine history with Indy, then that dynamic would’ve worked so much better, and could even be a lot more interesting. It would’ve been so cool to see Short Round take on a heroic vigilante role getting into all kinds of trouble, and Indy having to grapple with realizing that bringing a kid along for his early adventures caused Short Round to go down a dangerous rabbit hole, and maybe even add some personal guilt they could work through. Short Round especially would’ve helped the ending. Knocking Indy out made the ending so anticlimactic, but if Short Round did it, it could’ve shown a complex tough-love he has for his old mentor.
@mcgfn

I am genuinely so sad that Short Round never returned, huge missed opportunity. I doubt Ke Huy Quan would have ever been opposed to returning to the character, he and Harrison Ford are basically family to eachother

100% missed opportunity. Although Indy should never have been knocked out at the end. The decision shouldn’t have been made for him. Indy is the main character and he should have been presented a choice that he should have taken. Him being knocked out and appearing in the present was just so disappointing.

This movie gave us excatly two noteworthy things: -That minute long sequence of Indy realizing that they forgot to account for continental drift and getting super hyped for them to all die together -This one KZbin review video where the thumbnail was just Indy panicking as he's about to parachute out of the plane with the word "DOOKIE" plastered across the image. Yeah I feel the same. Some really awesome moments and ideas and themes about Indy feeling like a man out of his own time, but it feels so dull in execution. Indy should have gone back in time earlier and let some of the story play out there. I was looking forward to them actually getting back to 1939, but it is a poetic ending that Indy got to see some ancient history (his passion) for real just as his own world was exploring space. Just would have been cool to see it play out.

So here's my story about this movie. I was stuck in the next town over for a day, and did a few things like go to a park and decided to go see a random movie to kill time. I walked in and saw the next showtimes and saw Indiana Jones. I didn't even know they were making a new Indiana Jones, but I love the 3 originals and don't hate the 4th one as much as others. So I'm watching this film and thinking "Damn, this car chase is taking a long time." Then I'm thinking "They better wrap up the story soon, it feels like they are running out of time to finish this." Then I finally thought "Is this movie two and half hours long!?!?!" And also, I had to pee for literally the entire time because I didn't want to miss any of it.

He "made" that decision because he was depressed and thought there was no reason to live anymore (because with his injuries he would've certainly died very soon, so it's not like he just gets to live in ancient greece), you don't just let depressed people give in to their suicidal tendencies. If he still wants to die when they back to their present, he can figure that out then. But he didn't really want to die, he just wanted to give up, give up on a world that had moved on without him, where his body couldn't keep up anymore, and most importantly where his grief overwhelmed him to the point of numbness and his wife wouldn't see him anymore die to her own grief. I think it would've been terrible if he just ended up staying.

The horse in the subway in any other indy film would not have been the end of that sequence. That was great and really should have ran with that and continued to throw in ideas to build more tension and put the character in even more danger (and danger that should be very visually interesting conceptually)

It’s just such a bummer- at least crystal skull is fun! This movie, while a good send off for Indy, is just not an Indiana jones movie in anything other than script. The spirit is not there unfortunately

Saw it in theaters, wasn’t overwhelmed going into it with all of the reviews beforehand. Though trying to ignore the shoe horned god child so there’s motivation for a retired adventure. Some of the set pieces were decent, know how limited harison ford is. But Ik I were to rate it 5.5/10

I honestly loved Dial of Destiny. I thought it was a great goodbye to Indiana Jones (a franchise that is near and dear to my heart) plus I choked up multiple times

Understand and film(art) is objective to each own person but I think the nostalgia and good will of previous installments is what carried you through. This movie as a stand alone is very bland and just meh. Imo. Just never found the right beats and classic moments I believe a Spielberg could have brought to this

@@RegginaldRigleti really loved the original trilogy but haaaaated the fourth but my mum and I went to see this one to make fun and expected a bad movie but we both really enjoyed it after all. We're both critical viewers of media and I am not going to pretend it was a flawless movie but it was leagues above the fourth at least and I left the theater feeling excited

I can only imagine just how much more awful it would’ve been if they kept the ending where Indy dies and Phoebe basically takes his place throughout the original trilogy…

So i havent watched this, but the bits you've shown make me think there was a good movie here with a bit of trimming of the script and more time travel - which is nuts for me to say as the time travel bit is so barmy.

This was just Crystal Skull but done way worse lmao. People really out here pretending that just because it didn’t have aliens or the fridge scene that it’s suddenly a decent Indiana Jones movie.
