My 7th great grandfather is Col. Arthur Forbis. He shot the first shot and hit a general under Cornwallis. Arthur hit him at 150 yards and was picked by greene due to his marksmanship. He was the first buried there. Arthur was the captain of the Tennessee Militia and greene also had Sam Houston of the Virginia militia. Arthur was hit in the leg and got a bayonet . He refused amputation and said he wanted to die in one piece. Great video! I’d love to go there someday! Excellent historian!!thank you for educating folks for often forgotten American history!

I thoroughly enjoy your videos. They are well thought out and informative. Just a couple of points. First, Tarleton was a Lt. Colonel at Cowpens, not a general. And your picture of Greene is actually that of Daniel Morgan. Again, I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great and important work.

You really are a great historian! I'm reading your videos for reference on a research book on writing about the war. You've done your homework, and you've done a great service to amateur KZbin historians like me

Hi all, the next video will end the American revolution, and there are only there videos on the topic planned thereafter. Would you be more interested in more videos exploring the lesser-known aspects of the revolution (i.e., the American Indian Wars in NY, Invasion of Canada, Etc.), major battles of the civil war, or the Franco-Prussian war?

You have Daniel Morgan pictured several times in your presentation identified as Gen Nathaniel Greene. Otherwise very nice account of the southern campaign..

There were two problems with the video. 1. King’s Mountain was not an “ambush”. Major Ferguson in command of the British forces knew that he was about to be attacked. He had retreated to avoid combat. When he could no longer avoid battle he chose to defend himself at King’s Mountain. Where he was defeated in a ‘set piece’ battle. 2. In the ‘Race to the Dan’ General Cornwallis burned his own supply wagons. He was not attempting to cross the Dan river first, but to destroy General Greene before he could cross the rain swollen river. Greene got there first, and crossed first, saving his army. At Guilford Court House Gen. Cornwallis attacks Gen. Greene’s army which was more than twice his size. In the Race to the Dan, why would he not have wanted to attack a defeated force which out numbered him by only about fifty percent and which had its back to a swollen river? If Cornwallis had won, he could have destroyed Gen. Greene. Also he would have freed some 500 British prisoners the Continentals were holding.

This was a great video on my favorite battle of the American Revolutionary War. How did you make the battle maps?
@GrimBattalia5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate the support! I made the maps using this website: inkarnate.com/. It's very simple and easy to use. It's main weakness is that it is difficult to portray hills on the map (in situations where that would be relevant to the Battle)

2:44 The map suggests Florida was controlled by the British in 1781. In fact, it was Spanish territory. Michigan, though, was British controlled. 9:43 "...not a man of the _corpse_ had been killed..." You probably mean 'corps'.

Mine was there too, there and several other places. He started the war as a regular, was discharged and was an adjutant in N.Carolina Malitia. By the time of the courthouse he had joined the S.Carolina State Troops, cavalry under the command of William Washington.

Historians and others have stated that the NC militia was instructed to fire and then fall back but that isnt true. And if they hadnt ran Cornwallis probably wouldve lost the battle.

Cornwalis: "One more victory like this will be the ruin of us." He was wrong. After the battle, Cornwalis had to go lick their wounds at a place called Yorktown.
@wdtaut56505 жыл бұрын
"Cornwallis had to go lick _his_ wounds..." I doubt he licked someone else's wounds.
@bryanthenderson15014 жыл бұрын
No, Cornwallis did not go to Yorktown to lick his wounds. He marched his beleaguered forces to the seaport of Wilmington, NC, at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. After a two-week respite there, having been resupplied by the Royal Navy, he marched north through eastern NC into Virginia. He conducted several smaller campaigns around VA before moving to Yorktown, where he expected to be resupplied and reinforced again by the Royal Navy.

Even though I’ve always found the Revolutionary War inspiring, I couldn’t bring myself to wade through any of the detailed (and mostly turgid) tomes about it. . . However, your series peovides just the amount of highlights and details to make the war «digestible » and more easily comprehended. Thank you for presenting such significant history for all. My only suggestion is to lower the volume of the overarching music because it competes with hearing your descriptions. Just a suggestion and thanks again!
