Hi. I started refinishing my furniture about 6 months ago. I over prepare watching a million how to videos. I watched one about sanding that was really enlightening. It seems obvious but, he said if your orbital sander slows down it’s not doing it’s job and there’s too much pressure on top. I have the same sander as you and was amazed at how little pressure it takes to slow it down. I noticed that happening to yours too. I hope this is helpful. I’ve never seen this type of furniture. It turned out fantastic 😊
@ivylane-homeАй бұрын
Yes, I have watched SO many videos on my sander. I’ve turned down the suction on my dust extractor, adjusted my speed, move my hand so I don’t press down. Ugh! I also saw that this has a built in wobble. I might switch to a different model

You can use a nylon brush paint in the small areas, with stripper. A lot of work. It's too dark for me but it's not bad. Have a good day 😊🌷☀

They look great. I"m a Brutalist fan and love the sculptural look of them. I don't think they're too dark and agree totally on the matte finish. I pretty much hate glossy on furniture. As for price, is the $1500 for original condition in great condition? If so, I might ask $2500 for both, allowing a discount for the repairs. Great job.
@ivylane-homeАй бұрын
Thank you! I think the sculptural element is what I love most. 🤩🙌🏼

Please let us know how much you end up listing these for! And how you decided on the price and accounting for shipping! You did such an amazing job and I’d love to see how the rest of the process 😊❤
@ivylane-homeАй бұрын
I listed them for $1800 locally. On Etsy they are listed for $2700 and that includes $650 for shipping and $250 to cover the fees. They will have to pay sales tax on top of that. I do include verbiage in the listing that there is a discount for local pickup and states adjoining Oklahoma. This is my starting point. I’ll give it a few weeks and see what kind of interest I have. If I need to adjust the price, I will.
@carolinethompson6564Ай бұрын
Maybe the next time when you run across a project that has wooden plaque like fixture you might try taking off the plaque to making stripping easier.

All of you furniture flippers on KZbin, START USING WOOD CONDITIONER before staining. It's the difference between an unprofessional finish and a rich, deep, even, professional looking finish! All of that work just to falter in the end by missing this one step. - Shame.
@ivylane-homeАй бұрын
I use wood conditioner for water based stain and penetrating oil stains, but gel stain sits on top of the wood and I follow General Finishes protocol of a slip coat of mineral spirits before applying the gel stain.
@JeeperskipАй бұрын
No. Too dark and you cannot see any of the woodgrain detail. You might just as well have painted them brown.

You put too much work into these things to suggest a match and some gasoline. Whatever you list them for, do a best offer.
