A little help from my friends makes a big difference in this video! Their eagle eyes help me grab a few real bargains as we thrift antiques and vintage at the only two vendor thrift malls in Leitchfield, Kentucky.
Vendor malls are a great place to find hidden vintage treasures! With a combination of new and old stuff, sold both by novices and experienced dealers, the chances are good that we'll find everything from fabulous signed glass to lovely antique prints and funky 70s house decor. But can I see it all while chatting and filming too?
Thankfully, my cohorts today are on it, and so along with my finds--Swanky Swigs, Hall teapots, blown glass novelties and political buttons--come their finds for me, and theirs are better than mine! A brilliant blue Blenko bowl, a popular and scarce-ish Corning Cornflower hot tray and a New Kids figure in box are a few of the bits my jaundiced eye overlooks that my friends lure me back to reconsider as I pick for my collectors. (Speaking of Blenko, a misspelled tag gives us a great tip for future online shopping...)
Both the vendor mall chain and the local independent mall are filled with more vintage and antique goods than I might imagine finding in a little town! Though prices run the gamut from ridiculously high to ridiculously cheap, the overall result is a fun day of sourcing at thrifty prices that will help us earn our keep while we connect our new finds with their ultimate collectors. Thanks to our friends, we get both more fun and more profit from this great vendor thrift mall excursion!

I grew up in Southern CA, in the San Fernando Valley. Jay Silverman (Tonto)lived at the end of my street, and had a grandson visit often who my sister and I would play with. One day he told us that his grandfather's friend, Andre the Giant, was visiting, and did we want to come meet him? I ran into my house and grabbed my autograph book and followed my friend to meet him. Of course, I was astonished to see him as he had a huge head and giant hands, but he was very kind and signed my book. I have never forgotten that and still have my book. I am 64.

I love seeing things that I grew up with or still have. The sign "Even a fish ..." I think we have somewhere. My sister bought it for my father who sold eggs at the house. I remember my father and mother discussing how it would drive away customers! The cow sun catcher - I just donated one exactly like it. Oops!

Those old sewing machines can sometimes be a bargain - todays domestic machines can’t handle heavy fabrics like the old machines could. One thing you always have to look at when purchasing is whether the bobbin case is there. They are easily stolen, and expensive to replace.

The rocking chairs at 26:42 They're just old. Old and tired. My piece to haul home would have been the caboose stove, if my late dad had gotten his way and I had a place to put it. We almost installed a legit caboose in the back yard as a home office, when the railroads were doing away with them. Would have if the town planning and zoning hadn't KOed the idea. We had a signal light like that, from the Central New England; it's now at a local railroad museum and I was told it was going back into service. My dad got it off the power pole on the day it was being removed. Hauled it home in the back of his car, and to this day I don't know how it fit; it was one of the big round ones.

I have to admit they were very cute, well styled, and if you got a well made one, they could be great! I still see them around occasionally. Sadly, if you got one made on a Monday or a Friday, they didn't work so well...true of a lot of 1970s cars

Great video - I always learn something new. I enjoy anything vintage or antique so it is neat to see you show a variety of objects when you browse. It is so helpful when you share the prices so I get an idea of how much things go for in other parts of the country. Very helpful when you point out why a piece is problematic - reproduction, later paint color, bargain price versus retail. I could window shop with you all day long. Thank you!

Good evening, George! Those lamps, with the marble bases, were a good buy, at $6.00. Loved that Victorian mirror. At that price, it would've had to come home with me. Wow! Loved the caboose stove! The old oak wall phone caught my attention. Do you know if it still had the original insides? I wouldn't have been able to resist the barefoot foot pedal. I have a 1978 pickup...guess where the pedal would've gone 😂 Loved the frame the kittens print was in. Ohhh, I want the Jim Dandy electric churn. My grandmother had one, and I've always wished I had it. There were a lot of nice old picture frames there. I'm thinking I might start looking for Tupperware items. We have a lot here that Mother has had since the 1970s, and we still use it. Lots of interesting items! Thanks for the take-along!!!
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad Жыл бұрын
Weren't those amazingly cheap? Vendor malls are strange in that some dealers treat it like a retail store, some like a junk store, some like an antique store and some like a liquidation store. The caboose stove was pretty great I thought, and the mirror was a good deal! I did not check the oak wall phone, I usually do but didn't think to that time. Kentucky seems to have a lot of good old picture frames. I'll keep my eye out for a Jim Dandy, I've always wanted to find a working one at a good price! Thank you for coming along!

I was once told that some vendor malls that have funny prices on the end of them, .33 or .67, are their vendor booth space numbers. I’m not sure if that’s true throughout the entire nation, but made sense to me. ☺️

HI guys. I love selling pantyhose. I pay 50 cents for it, and list it for 8-12. 2 pics - front and back. Always new, Description on front (no research). Also very small footprint in my inventory. The truth is, most of them are bought by mens accounts. For whatever reason, I don't care. Offering a service. Also, I actually think people wear them under their clothes in cold areas. I think to keep warm people would wear underwear on their heads. No judgement, a great item to pick up. A little long tail, but all other reselling boxes are checked. Love todays video.

Cheap price on the cash register for $100. It is missing a lot of pieces though. If someone wanted an original top sign, it would cost probably $400, if you could find one. Newly made replacements are about $250. A set of replacement keys are $5-$10. Brackets for the top sign (one is missing) $80. Marble coin slab (the one shown is incorrect) $75. That’s without seeing the condition of the drawer. When you start to add everything up, it might not be worth it to restore, unless you where happy with it the way it is. Great video again George.

Funny enough, my first car was a brand new Monza town coup. Little car with a relatively powerful V8 engine and rear wheel drive. It was fun to drive but didn’t do well in the snow, and it was impossible to keep a wheel alignment. Went through tires quickly. I know they weren’t very popular or well received. They did have their problems.
