I can say with certainty that they dont make me want to drink (never liked beer much anyways), but to see that people are being creative in the space and customers are enjoying them makes me happy. @@ArgusthecatNot going to lie, this sentiment is a lot of why I drink. Not a big beer fan but meads & hard liquors. And yes, thanks for taking off the sunglasses now and then. I for one do find it hard to read a lot of faces in the video, though obviously I don't blame you all for looking out for your eyes. Maybe there's room in the budget for some more see-through sunglasses for next summer of videos? I believe you can get them with only slight tint and still good UV protection, but it may cost.

Im gonna be a extreme beer nerd here and say, Graham if you are reading this, as someone who doesnt like super hoppy ipas, you should try to look for IPAs that have Citra and Mosaic hops. They have a very grapefruit/citrus/tropical fruit flavor profile that when paired well with additives really mask the overall piney, bitter flavor that a lot of people dont like when it comes to hops. You might also want to look into Amarillo hops. Amarillo can impart a very nice, refreshing flavor that a lot of people dont necessarily associate with IPAs. You might also want to specifically look into Hazy IPAs because they tend to overall have a more juicy, less bitter forward flavor.

I 500% agree on disliking IPAs and you 100% nailed it about the "hops arms race". Sometime in the mid-2010s, IPA-heads finally asked, "what if we made IPAs actually taste good?" This created the New England IPA, the West Coast IPA, the Hazy/Juicy IPAs, and other IPAs that actually aim to balance the bitterness with other flavors. I hate IPAs as a general rule, but I LOVE milkshake IPAs. If you haven't tried milkshake IPAs, GO FIND ONE NOW! They are delicious! Especially since you seem to like lactose in your beers...
@PharaohBender277 ай бұрын
So, in addition to the whole "hops arms race," I was told several years ago that one of the other reasons there are so many IPAs in the Pacific Northwest is because the region's hops are just more bitter in general - to the point that when Britain imported hops from Oregon in the 1920s after a local hop blight, they complained about their bitterness; and Cascade hops grown in Europe are milder. Just something about the region's terroir.
@Phished1237 ай бұрын
as someone who has a bit of a palate for hops, I find its so useful to discuss with someone what they do or dont like as it pertains to flavor. I have specific hops i like and ones i dont, im not a big fan of centennial or cascade, but really love mosiac, Citra, etc. So its not just the style of beer(Although that does play a big factor, as you said, lactose can help cut that a lot), but the particular hops involved in making it. Its something i think a lot of people dont consider, Hops are different, they have different flavor profiles, and that can effect it. A lot of people that complain about how hoppy IPAs are havent had a nice, like you said, Hazy or Juicy IPA that is made primarilly with Citra or Amarillo that has a way more citrus/fruity forward flavor.
@srenj19857 ай бұрын
To be fair that can be said for a lot of types. Sours have been on a jammy, juicy, fruity race , and Pastry Stouts have been going crazy as well . It's too bad, because a lot of people forget to appreciate a well made Pilsner or Lager today
@torstikinnunen38017 ай бұрын
Personally I believe that the IPA boom was a result of many of the small start-up breweries actually just being bad at brewing beer and just using the high amount of hops as a way to hide their mistakes. Everybody started by making IPAs because they are supposed to be bitter tasting, so a messed up batch could just be sold as extra hoppy.
@metalhat35347 ай бұрын
Over here in central Europe the hops race is only slowly dying down, there are still so many IPAs and even some are very hoppy. But I found that there is a difference in IPAs and I don't know what is responsible for it. Some are very easy going but hoppy with the flavpur being close to normal Lager while others have a very bitter and for some reason sour taste. The bitterness is clear but I don't expect a sour when you advertise an IPA. But then again my favourite beer type is Amber, so I know what I like best.
