As a high school teacher, this past week was awesome. I love fall break and it needs to stay!

something of note with fall break, i think Back In The Day starting school after labor day was standard nationally and now a lot of states opt for mid august or earlier to start so by the time you hit october they have been in school for nearly two months with no break.

I brought a small berry chantilly cake to a dinner with friends because I thought it looked nice. I remember it being really good, but I also remember one person going "oh my god, you got THE berry chantilly cake???" This was nearly ten years ago, so I guess this cake fandom has been a thing for a while.

Oh btw, i've tried products from those choviva guys. The cocoa flavour is pretty close/good actually. Big problems ive had on the batch last year is that they used shea butter to replace cocoa butter. For me at least this tastes remarkably different, not bad, but it kinda becomes a shattered illusion of chocolate

Gummy popsicles does sound weird but I actually make popsicles from sugar free jello-o all the time so it could be good. Though the jell-o popsicles don't have a gummy texture. There was that trend for a bit where people were freezing honey and enjoying the chewy texture, so maybe it'll be like that? Lots of people are allergic to chocolate or are concerned about child slavery, so the chocolate alternative could be for them :) Great episode!

I was buying the ChoViva granola for months without noticing that it wasn't real chocolate! The box described it as 'VeganChoc Taste' so I assumed it was just vegan milk chocolate, and was excited to finally have vegan chocolate granola options at the supermarket. My German wasn't good enough at the time to understand the actual description on the corner of the box. It did put me off a little when I realised what it was, but I think the fact that I fully didn't notice for 4+ months means it was succeeding at what it set out to do.

Vegetarian here. I recognize the smell in just beyond but I like the taste of beyond a lot more and I think it’s because it leans away from trying to be beef. Impossible feels like it’s just missing something and trying really hard to be beef. Whereas beyond is like, hey, we got the texture down and the look down it taste a little different but it’s more its own thing. In all honesty, I prefer veggie patties because I just don’t like eating all the processed food it gives me in digestion.

The berry chantilly cake rules. My wife introduced me to it and we get it regularly for birthdays. Hadn't tried the new recipe but the old one was (and I guess is, again?) great

hearing about the trolli gummi ice cream reminds me of dondurma - i think it could be really cool to get a more accessible version of that

Gelatin popsicles have been done before at a London pop up from the technological base that was developed for theoretical man made glaciers formed into landing strips floating in the North Sea during WW2 and their core function vis a vis the gelatin inclusion was more related to the fact that they (at least in that formulation) hold onto their texture far longer than a normal popsicle would ever be capable so theoretically the melting wouldn’t be an issue functionally, more so than chew being a consideration. It’s never been something I’ve bothered with but the principle easily home made melt resistant ice could have some fun uses, honestly shocked nobody ever made these non melting popsicles commercially considering they were supposedly pretty decent.

Those popsicles could have a texture similar to turkish ice cream, which doesnt really exist in the states. They could actually be really good
