Cities were founded on the Magdeburg and Lübeck laws in Poland from the 13th century. Gdańsk was located under the Lübeck law, so there is no central market with a town hall. Gdańsk was a Hansatic city. A large diaspora of Dutch and Scots lived in Gdańsk from the end of the 16th century.

Yes, but "City of Gdańsk" - "Urbs Gedanyzc" mentioned allready in 10th century. How long had it existed before that?

Nynke, what a nice video again, I can hear and see joy, laughter and beauty in every frame. Gdańsk is a truly stunning place, especially through the lens of your camera and even in bad weather. It is May. And it is still not very crowded. And the way you are dressed you look like you are not very warm. So when do the crowds come? I love the colorful buildings and the water, the sounds of the water. And I think I figured out which language was which on that sign although I didn't get the chance to translate it because while I was trying to pause it it focused on English. That doesn't usually happen to me. Usually I'm looking for something and trying to read and there is English but I don't see it. I never see it first. It is everywhere. On the things that we buy in the store. It used to be French and Spanish and English and I think we lost a language. The main Street with all the colorful houses, no one ever said what it was called. James and Marina used to walk up and down it for a few weeks when they came from Ukraine, but it never occurred to me to wonder what it was called. It has been more than a year I think since they left and moved to Warsaw and by the end of June, James mostly stopped posting. He pops in now and then with some other country that I don't care about. And once from Ukraine. And I guess they are all still alive including Marina's family but I don't know. I miss them. I've told them. Other people have told them. Speaking of which, have you been to Katowice? One day they were there and they were alive and they were lots of people in the chat telling them where to go and they went to the outside of some sports stadium that looked like a spaceship and then they climbed some stairs near a parking garage or something and there was grass and they went up very high and then they looked out over the city and by then it was almost dark and it was amazing. And it was so much fun! All the conversations that we had. And the trams were going by while they were eating at cafes in the street and they went to a drugstore to get some tea. It was like 2 and 1/2 hours it was really cool. It was sort of fuzzy on my tablet while it was live, but after it was uploaded it was all really clear so then I watched it again for another two and a half hours. Wow. I was afraid that they would take it down or make it members only or something. They did that with some other live streams. Of course most of the conversation was in English. I don't know whether their Polish has improved. Mine hasn't. But since they already spoke Russian And could read English it was probably easier. They also finally went to Zakopane but they never posted very much from there and they went to Cieszyn, For some reason they posted more from there, and to Krakow, where they almost made it to the square - but then they stopped filming and so they mostly filmed under the bridge? I think that's what it was It was definitely "under" something. (But when I hear it in my head it sounds more like under the mountain. I am not coming up with the word for bridge that sounds like what I remember) My ducks are laying eggs again but so far we have only had one duckling this year. Also it drowned. All the other nests did not hatch. I wonder if my Drake is no good. That would be so sad. He doesn't chase me and try to mate with me all the time like Clooney did and he doesn't run away screaming like Seven did. He does come up to me looking for food and eats worms out of my hands. Mealworms. They are not as bad as nightcrawlers - ugh! So I don't freak out as much, holding them. Last night I saw something about Poland in 1990 and it was from Frontline on PBS, it was on KZbin but it was too late to watch it so I must go look for it again and now I don't have time to watch it either
