I Tried to be a landlord and rented out two homes, that's the most stressful time in my life I was constantly giving eviction notices, constant complaints about dirty and nasty tenants, not getting paid, had to take them to court to get them evicted, I sold both homes,to hell with that crap...good luck

I own a house in a neighborhood that is being gentrified. My son and grandson live there. The investors calling me about my little house is upwards of 40-50 calls a day. And if I were to sell it, they will just buy it and just sit on it. No way. My property taxes are going up, but I’ll be damned if I sell my parents’ legacy to these greedy corporations!!

Get deed insurance as some sketchy companies are using quitclaim deeds to steal houses.

Those people calling you are wholesalers and not greedy corporations. Greedy corporations do not buy homes 1 or 2 at at time. They buy in bulk.

@@markpoultonsrules - Yes, you’re correct! I have both calling me. They’ve called so often I can tell the investors from the flippers. Investors have purchased all but three houses on a square block.

Landlord here. Even at $550 rent for a 2br some people cant make the payments on time and nothing is ever their fault. You want lower rent? Reduce ridiculous tenant protections, im forced to file eviction first chance i get since i must wait a week, then post notice then wait, then hearing then wait, etc. Even in red state KY it takes 6 weeks and there is no recovering funds not paid or if they destroy your property. Tenants should negotiate because i guarantee the tenants who were 7 to 14 days late every payment and always get out before evictions are filed are ruining it for the rest of you, and will NOT have that increase be a "mistake". And all this is to quote something i told.my sellers agent: "people breaking into my vacant property to try and steal and finding nothing of value doesnt scare me. Squatting does." Remove squatters rights to literally steal properties and rents can come down too. Because, as you no doubt understand is the consequence of a capitalist system- those who DO pay their bills will necessarily pay for those who DON'T. See: Healthcare

Rent has to go up as the property value goes up taxes goes up as well which the landlord needs to cover or he will technically be losing money every single year

The big companies are pushing out the average landlords with one or two rental units, let the big companies and the government take over rental housing market and cap the rental cost.

Landlords pay taxes, insurance, and HOA fees which go up every year and get passed on to renters. Those increases are reasonable, but greed and exploitation are not.

I'm a landlord. I use to set my rents under market and keep it there. When California decided on rent control I had no choice but to increase it yearly. Only one tenant always try to negotiate. I always tell her my hands are tied. I also have to remind her that her rent is still way under market. All the other tenants never complain because I'm pretty sure they already did their own research. Before the rent control I use to raise it to even back out increase of things. I increase now to try to stay above the "What If's?" Now. I do understand why it's important to make a bigger profit...so you can manage easily for those repairs and cost of living increases. My plumber doesn't charge me the same as he did 20 years ago. So, it's not that we are greedy... we just trying to hang in with the current situations. If we don't, things can go bad fast!!!

As an owner of a couple dozen properties, where does everyone get off telling me what I should rent my properties for? My 3 bed 1 bath houses are cheaper than your 2 bedroom apartment but you don't get all the amenities and you have to mow the grass. parking may not be sufficient if you have a ton of cars. Life is a series of tradeoffs. If you rent from a large corporation they could care less about you or your situation so long as they get the numbers they want. Renter do not look at the landlords perspective. HVAC service and replacement has doubled in the past 5 years. Everything needed to fix a home has increased by 60%+. Labor costs more. Property taxes are more. Basically everything is more. And guess who gets to pay for that? If you want to blame someone on why rent is too damn high, look at the FED, the treasury and your state and local governments. Debasement of the currency through the hidden tax of inflation and money printing just screws the middle and lower class. Find an owner managed property, pay on time and take care of the property and you lessen the probability that you will get huge rent increases.

And to help answer your question as to what we can do, more people like you and that young lady you reported stating that she has not raised rent on her tenants are needed. Also, that landlord that actually lowered their tenant's rent. These types of people have to start my property and become landlords.

I pay 2,040 for a one bedroom that’s not with water, pg&e, food, car note, insurance, etc. Rent is not going to stop increasing no matter what theirs no such thing as “working it out” , or “negotiating.” I hear all these people complaining about the prices and it’s annoying. Grow up. Go back with your mom and dad. I’m thankful for my blue collar job and the roof over my head everyday. Quit being entitled. People complaining about 700-1500 rent payments, funny
