This was done on purpose in Europe - countries refused to distinguish the difference between a refugee and an economic migrant. Here in Germany, we have many immigrants that simply arrived for better opportunities but are being handled as refugees. I work with the Immigration Office and am baffled that we have “refugees” from the Ukraine who have not seen war nor experienced it. They receive full social benefits to include free services such as beauty shop visits, transportation costs and housing priority. They are allowed a paid vacation which most travel back to the Ukraine to look after their property and pay the rent there also paid for by our government - that is not a refugee in my opinion but an economic migrant

Every person getting off those boats is a replacement for one of us. Demographics and birth rates predict us to be a minority in our own country by 2070. I was heavily involved with the refugee boat rescues on Lesvos in Greece for a long time as an independent volunteer (which I know will draw some flak). Now let me make this clear. I had a lot of time and compassion for genuine refugees fleeing war and persecution in their home countries. I had no time whatsoever for the illegal migrants entering Europe. Back in 2016 the percentage of genuine refugees (mostly families with children) entering Europe, predominantly from Turkey, was about 60%. The other 40% were illegal migrants. The genuine refugees on the whole were as good as gold, well behaved, expressed gratitude and did their best to work with the volunteer agencies on the ground. The illegal migrants on the other hand were the complete opposite. They were very difficult to work with in fact they were difficult at every opportunity, constantly starting fights and caused great agitation stirring things up and thought nothing for the new host country local population who obviously were also victims in this. I very highly doubt there is a genuine refugee among all of these boat arrivals entering the UK across the English Channel. Do I think they should be stopped? Most certainly. I am absolutely dead against them coming to the UK and feel very strongly about this. Are there ways to stop them getting here? Absolutely there are but is the government listening to such proposals? No! How is it possible for a government on the one hand to be so callous towards it's own people yet at the same time dish out all of this help at huge financial cost to ourselves (the taxpayers) is very difficult for me to wrap my head around. We have millions being forced into using food banks, homelessness is increasing, child poverty during the cost of living crisis has reached massive highs, veterans living homeless on the street unable to access the support they need etc etc; yet all of the money which we are constantly told is not available to help our own citizens is ironically available for people who have never done a single thing to contribute to the United Kingdom in a positive way. This is f*cking madness. It's bonkers. We all know there are ways to stop the boats coming in. I for one would love to enact a workable plan to stop these illegal migrants from entering the country which would cost no more than £5 million to implement. Yet the government are not willing to listen to us and tell us they have it all under control when clearly they're in way out of their depth and haven't got a clue what they are doing. Worse this wanton waste of money, time and resources is costing this country hundreds of millions of pounds each year for a policy which just opens the floodgates to more new arrivals flooding into the UK on a daily / weekly basis.

Look at the Home Office figures, which are almost the reverse of your claim. 85% of asylum claims are allowed eventually, leaving only up to 15% who may be illegal. My colleague's brother was sent to the UK from Namibia. Once on the airport, he threw his visa and passport away and claimed assylum with a completely unfounded claim he is gay and in danger of being killed by members of the community. A local social worker and police officer were highly paid to support the claim. The UK put him through several programs to train him in 4 different carreers. The police only ever arrest ME and have bent over backwards to secure British passports for all gang members. I'm a severely disabled girl so I cannot defend myself against the gangs, but even if I could, the police would only arrest me again. Once I cried out "leave me alone" to the gangs - straight away I got arrested again. I on the other hand have been arrested, hounded, psychologically tortured, incarcerated, treated as an extremely dangerous and violent s @ x offender, police have contacted my then employer as well as my landlord and neighbors to warn them all of me (which significantly contributed to the total destruction of my career and nearly caused the landlord to evict me), marked me as extremely violent and dangerous (meaning everybody who comes to my house only ever turns up in twos as is done with violent people), they have slammed me with a massive criminal record, accused me of being the r @ p ! $ t, banned me from r @ p e crisis centers and organizations for abused women nationwide for life, and placed me under a s @ x u @ l harm prevention order (as is commonly done with s @ x offenders even if not convicted). Because of all this, I cannot get carers - which I would urgently need as I am so severely disabled that I cannot even sit up or wash myself. When I have to attend hospital (I have to get taken on a stretcher due to my severe disability), I get treated as if I were indeed dangerous and violent - I get restrained and sedated. I also get any treatment that would cure me, denied. Again, I'm a severely disabled GIRL - the severe disability is the result of the extreme abuse from the gangs by the way.

As a Canadian I cannot immigrate to the UK (on ancestry visa) without documents, including documents of my parents/grandparents, without paying a hefty health surcharge, criminal check, and proof of funds to sustain myself. It really doesn't seem right. For every undocumented person they allow in they ought to give the same free privilege to a documented and checked Commonwealth citizen- do a draw for it, one for one.
