The issue with forgiveness is that people think its sets the offender free, it doesn't, it sets the survivor free. To find the strength to release the pain and reach a state of forgiveness is what finally releases the grip the offender has on you. I pretty quickly forgave my x for his conduct, it doesn't make it right, nor does it mean I will ever take him back, he caused far too much damage, became far too evil. It gave me one hell of a spiritual boost though. And to be honest, he screwed himself over in the process of ending a relationship I was no longer committed to.
