Facts.... If that lane is open and you're 30 deep on the right side, cya! Cool, you're all about the safety aspect and put that ride together for one of your fallen. First video that I've seen where it wasn't someone trying to be all gangsta with it. I ride solo, so I be damned if I know club rules. Hell never befriended a club rider. Nothing against them, just guess things happen for a reason.

Same here about that rule. If you want to show the courtesy, that's cool. If you don't, that's cool too. MCs don't own the road or the open lanes.

I was making leisurely miles in Northern California on my BMW RT when a fair-sized group of East Bay Dragons came up on me. I moved over to allow them to pass and was surprised to have two or three members wave me in to join them! I rode with them for several miles after joining them and felt the community of riders had reached new horizons for me. When my exit came up, I saluted all and received smiles and salutes in return and have remembered this little incident (about 25 minutes or so) with pleasure ever since and am sorry that circumstances didn't allow me to meet these fellow riders.

Lifetime rider here. Find this ridiculous. The issue is that groups of riders (usually on cruisers) act as rolling roadblocks (and they don't care). That's what's discourteous. The idea that I should have to get permission to pass someone that is already acting in a discourteous manner just isn't right. These groups feel they can impose their riding style on others - that's not OK.

I personally take the "higher road" and still am courteous to even the slow groups. Have you considered that they may be inexperienced and not realize what they are doing? I ride without regard to asking for permission. However, there is always an exception, like riding up to a large group and the Sargeant at ARms has got dangling 3 or 4' weighted balls hanging off his bike, I back the F*** off cause there are some real crazy groups ouot there that think THEY DO Own the Road and also they are tryna protect the groups riders from rival gangs running up on em. I'm a lone ranger mostly and ride a damn fast sport bike but common sense is uncommon these days and having a oz of it will save your bacon. Besides most Harley rider ignore any other bike out there that AINT a Harley. Well OK but that's FUUUUUKKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEDDDDDD UP.

I started riding in 1981 and I've NEVER heard of asking another rider for "permission" to pass. I just ride my ride. That's my business. I'll acknowledge other riders always with a nod or a hand salute depending upon the posture of my motorcycle (am I in a sharp turn or straight and level), but I won't ask permission to pass. That's what slow lanes are for. I do ride the speed limit, so 99% of the time, others are passing me, but I've never encountered anyone asking my permission. I just that it's ridiculous. They don't need my permission, and I don't need theirs.

I just happened upon your channel. I am an old 1%er biker from the East Coast. What 99%er MC’s do not realize is that as a 1%er club we are constantly scanning our backs, sides, and front. Not only do we scan for motorcycles but cages (cars). The 1 %er lifestyle is full of other rivals that can pull up on us and cause problems. We are always weary of fast approaching motorcycles (esp since we cruise at 80-85(open highway). We scan for vans, trucks, etc. we scan for cages with multiple guys inside. Even scan the colors of the cages and bumper stickers etc. it could cost us our life. Secondly, when approaching a 1%er pack it is HUGE respect to know the road protocol as this video teaches. There are Saftey issues as mentioned but a the biggest is RESPECT. I have never, in 40+ yrs of MC seen anyone denied permission to pass when offering this respect. This is good educational stuff right here! Thanks

@@sedrickmcmiller9367 1%er is a term for "outlaw motorcycle clubs" or MCs.. some president said ""99% of motorcyclist are law abiding citizens" so they took it and ran with it and made it a part of their everyday life... That's the short version of someone who has never been a part of any kind of club and just enjoys being on the open road.. but if you're serious about knowing what the 1% patch is all about it's easy to Google, but you're not going to get a biased media version..

I've always acknowledged every brother and sister on two wheels that I encounter and the only time I wait to pass is if we are running the corners in the mountains and they're slower than me. I feel like if you're coming up on a large group ride that obvious, of course give way. Over all as long as we respect each other the community will continue to be a place of a passion for riding.

He shouldn't be riding so close to someone he can't see the debris in front of them. This is one of the fundamental problems of riding in large groups. Also, the first person in the group, the ride captain, should have pointed that out, and it should be pointed out all the way to the back so that no one has to swerve.

I haven't ridden for about 20 years, and then I mostly rode solo. The only hand signal I ever saw was the hand down with a peace sign or to fingers down, to indicate "keep the rubber side down" or just "stay safe." However your post did remind me of an ancient post I got off the Internet back in the 80's or 90's. Presented here for your amusement: The Best Thing About MotorCycles The best thing about motorcycles is that they are a reasonable, economical mode of transportation. When I first bought my cycle, I tried to ride it as much as possible in order to save the money I'd otherwise be spending on gas for my car. Well, actually, my cycle only gets 40mpg, but the comparative maintenance costs would have been much lower except, well, I got run over by a truck the second month I had it. Dang thing just backed right over me in a parking lot. Not pretty, at all. I mean, if he'd gotten me out on the highway where I would've had room to run, I could see some sport in it. Instead, he lurked in his parking spot til I rode by and then blam!, backed out and nailed my butt to the ground. I derived some minor satisfaction by breaking some of his glass with my hand and shoulder and scraping paint off of his tailgate with my knee, but all in all, it was not a growth experience. The hospital costs and repair bill weren't nearly as discouraging as the fact that the motorcycle shop kept my machine for many, many months. But I did get to make trips to the motorcycle shop where I met other cyclists and began to acquire the cycle-riding mystique. I bought a pack of cigarettes to roll up in the arm of my T-shirt and learned to insert the syllable "fuk" at rhythmic places in my sentences. That's the best thing about motorcycles, the instant comraderie you develop with your fellow riders on the road. I remember the first time an oncoming rider waved at me. It was so surprising, such a warm feeling to be accepted by a stranger, merely because of my choice of conveyance. It happened again, and again, over the course of my riding career until one day, feeling outgoing and self confident, as a rider approached me, *I* spread out the fingers of my left hand in the unmistakable sign of cycle fellowship. As he ignored me and sped by, I yelled "I was just reaching for the clutch, mutha fukka!". That's the best thing about motorcycles, nobody can hear a thing you're yelling while you're riding one. I mean, you can yell, curse, sing, whatever, and the wind and engine noise carry it all away from the ears of anyone but yourself. Personally, I like to make "vrrooom" noises. I know, it's childish, but I think it's the child in people that makes them want to ride. Whenever I pass a car full of kids, they all stare in awe at my cycle. It's a daring vehicle, something their parents warn them off of, like drugs and making early CD withdrawals. So, there I was at a stop light. Beside me, a truck full of college males, drinking and harassing the people in the vehicles around them. I revved the motor slightly, using what I had learned about the motorcycle mystique to project an air of toughness. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to turn on the gas, the engine sputtered, and I found myself sitting on a dead cycle, yelling "Vrroooom, vrroooooom" into the unexpected silence. That's the best thing about motorcycles, people don't mess with you no matter how you act. And with good reason, for many normal, everyday riding tasks can be misinterpreted as signs of extreme courage or lunacy. Many people are afraid to drive *cars* in Huntsville, let alone ride on a motorcycle. My ride begins at the bottom of a steep hill which is my apartment's parking lot. At the top of the hill is a blind turn onto a two-lane road which was recently repaved so that the patrons of the nearby drinking establishment can acheive higher speeds in their pickup trucks and Trans Ams. This road leads down to the Parkway, a black snake of death, where the ditches are littered with the vehicles that failed the ordeals of the day before. Yes, a cycle rider in Huntsville has a certain amount of respect, implicitly. I guess you can't really grasp the great thing about motorcycles until you've got one. I could make you a good deal...

Maybe an hour later we stopped for fuel and food. Low and behold they guys that passed us were having lunch . They remembered and waved. We sent over a pitcher of beer. The Gentleman walked over and thanked us and told us he didn’t mean to be rude but he couldn’t take the beer. We drank the beer and offered soft drinks. Ruff Riders ARE gentlemen on the road. I never really understood this as a new rider, but after some close calls, it makes sense. The point about safety is very true at the 2:18 mark on your video. There was some debris that a biker in your group had to quickly maneuver around. If he/she was aware of other faster riders passing by, the swerve could have caused a bigger issue.

Most Definitely! It’s all about respect & most importantly, safety. I was always taught that the “permission” procedure was reserved for passing OMCs.. but since becoming the Road Captain of my chapter, I get the yes or no from all MCs. Now if your group is on the left lane and I’m alone on the right lane and someone from that group wants to hop in my lane to stop me from passing them. Thats just foolery. I’m passing you no matter what, the right lane is already open, I don’t need your permission to continue on that lane I was riding on.

I belong to the most exclusive MC in existence. I am the only member, and there are no schoolyard rules telling me how to sit, how to stand in line, how to speak. The charter of my MC is to expand the boundaries of a free life. I regard every rider as a brother, until he proves unworthy of that regard. I treat all riders with reasonable respect and courtesy. That includes getting the attention of a fellow rider before passing. But getting "permission"? Get permission, or what? An implied threat? Stacking up twenty bikes so nobody can pass is the discourteous behavior. When someone rides up behind me, I move over and wave them on, and wish them godspeed.

I’m curious. This is an honest question. No pun intended. Do Highway Patrol motorcyclist have to ask for permission to pass motorcycle groups by? If not, why should others have to? Have anyone “seriously” told the highway patrol “no?” If so, what was the outcome, if any?

I'll throw in my 2 cents on this one. HP know enough about riding that they don't rush up on a group of riders aggressively. They know that that they are going to pass and they approach respectfully, I mean unless they're looking for you specifically.
@blessedhighlyfavored7263
@blessedhighlyfavored7263 4 ай бұрын
Who mentioned aggressively? All I was asking is who is to say that we can’t pass the MC on the fwy. I’m a tax payer who’s been authorize by the DMV (to ride) my motorcycle in accordance with the laws that have been established. Personally, I will pass anybody as long as I’m being respectful and not in an aggressive manner as you’ve mentioned. MC don’t make the laws for the roads, lawmakers do..

This education needs to get passed on to everyone. Now some times, you might run into a crew that don’t want you to pass them. Now for any reason you feel you need to pass them and it’s safe…what do you do? This is why I will always keep a fast bike cause you might have to scoot on pass them. If it's a big group, we hang back if they are in the fast lane. If it's just Kake and me... and the group is in the number two lane, we have never asked for permission to pass because maybe they are riding at a slower pace for a reason. However, we still acknowledge them. If we are riding with a group, and we approach another group, (on their right) then we ask for permission to pass. As you said, it's common courtesy and we thank them.

Interesting video. In my 32 years of riding, I have never asked permission to pass another group of riders. Nor have I ever had another group of riders ask for my permission. One time I was on the interstate passing a group and some of them came up onto a car and I got over into the far-left track and pointed for them to come over onto the right track, so they didn't have to slow down for the car as I was passing them and then the car. But that's it. Some of the handlebars on the bikes in the video are pretty awesome. 👍

You said it best. When I'm on 2's, if I'm coming pass a group I will normally ask. Safety is the key & the main thing I have see is that group making an exit nearby. Now funeral runs or big long groups I never pass...just the Respect for me. Now, the OMC's you know how I will roll if I'm doing this for 99's...but heck, it's all RESPECT - YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE!

One KZbinr who didn't know about protocols almost got kicked off his bike. Black Dragon spoken on that incident especially coming up on a 1%er club. He said hang back and the tail gunner will ask what your intentions are ? And you ask if you can pass, he will tell you hold and ride up front and then drop back to you and he will either give you the ok or no. If it is ok then you proceed and roll by and give them a nod and go on about your business.
