If I could have done this to my ‘66 I probably never would have sold it. I loved that truck but I just couldn’t do 6-8 mpg anymore. I had the 352 V8 and it never left me stranded once in the ten years I had it but boy could it drink gas. You could literally watch the needle move as you drove.

Nice. I'd really like to see if we could form some sort of association of independent EV shops. There are a number popping up around the United States and Canada, and it seems like it would make a lot of sense for them to collaborate on parts and components. That might make bringing a CCS1 standard for conversions and DIYs to North America, as well as creating a certification standard for those charging systems so that charging networks like EVgo are willing to let owners use them.

This battery pack should last at least 10-15 years. Longer than most people keep their cars and now you can replace individual cells if they get weak instead of replacing the whole thing. In 10-15 years they will be much cheaper than they are now too. I had a ‘66 F100 with a 352. It got 6-8 mpg. With today’s gas prices that are only going to keep going up as more people switch to EVs, I would take the EV version of that truck any day. If I could have done this to mine I never would have sold it. I loved that truck.

@@marcodm yeah. Everyone hears those horror stories but that’s all they are. You used to have to replace the whole pack. Now you can just replace individual cells if they get weak. That’s why the system in this video monitors each cell individually. And the cost has gone down a lot in the last five years. In another five to ten years it will be even cheaper, just like every other new technology. A flat screen tv used to cost thousands of dollars and now you can get one for $2-300.
@marcodm

Bugger the Patina, this truck needs a full body re-spray. Nobody wants to buy a rusty EV. If you're going to spend this much on the Ev parts, the least you could do for the next owner, is stop it from rusting away for at least 20 years by giving it a bit of new metal to fill in the holes, and a new paint-job and truck bed liner. Make it look as nice as the blue truck at the first shop he was standing next to with the LED headlights and you'll raise way more money to train EV techs. Good Luck. I'm looking forward to see how she turns out.

It probably was going close to 50mph. I'm guessing the speedometer wasn't adjusted when it was lifted and had the bigger tires put on. I have a wrong-bed 4x4 myself, the "highboy" in original configuration and it's not near that tall. And who knows, maybe someone did a trans swap and didn't do a speedo gear. Theres a bunch of things that people don't often realize when you lift and mess with older rigs. Speedometer is definitely a big one.

This kit itself is not going to be hard. Finding the right mounting points will be a factor, but beyond that the system already has the wiring harness designed and it’s plug and play. The programming may be more challenging, but once they do a few similar installations they will develop a programming solution that will be simple. You need mechanical skills and the tools to do some proper fabrication, but even a guy like myself has that. I know I will do something like this on my own I. The future. I currently have a few different vehicles that are not numbers matching classics, so pulling the powertrain is no big deal and it can be used in another, or sold, in some cases, for 50% or more of the cost of the EV power system. That wound always be the case for builders, mind you.

@@fastfreeks The battery is 40% of the engineering on a conversion, cooling is another 50%.The motor and the inverter are easy, adapters are off the shelf for many vehicles.
