It's a really good idea for a farm truck. You can just put up some solar panels to make a carport for it and use it whenever you need, without paying road tax for your fuel.

I think it's cool. It preserves this old classic for future generations. Few people leave the original engines in them anyway. They were underpowered and it's hard to get parts for those old engines. You see a lot of 5.0 or 5.8 swaps which is cool, but so is an EV conversion.

Honestly, this is how they'll sell electric trucks. It's still a truck. Body on frame, solid axles. Looks trucky, feels trucky. All the automakers are making super luxury trucks that go 0-60 in 4 seconds and have futuristic styling and 24" rims and dumb crap like that. But take a regular truck, swap the powertrain to EV, and suddenly, it appeals to the masses. I hate the new Silverado EV because... well, look at it. But if you took the new ICE Silverado WT trim or LT trim and just... swapped it with an EV powertrain, then that's what people will buy.

Cha Ching. Matter of perspective. The amount of $ dumped into this vs replacing warn out parts is substantial. A persons bank that matches the passion of keeping old metal moving is the only "fantastic way" that it works. Because for the working class, this is just not a logical use of the hard earned $. This truck is NOT in a restored state, so taking it to vehicle shows makes no sense either. (at least to me) IF it were a restored, pristine condition show truck, having a battery motor to move it on/off trailer trucks and to its parking spot would make more sense to me. But to each their own.

The V8 versions of these trucks came with a different hood ornament. It looked the same but instead of having a sprocket and a lightning bolt it just said V8 in that space. When this truck came out the lightning bolt on the hood told everyone you cheaped out and got the smaller V6 engine. I love how it goes with the electric theme of the truck now but that was not the hood ornament you wanted on your truck in the 60s. For an electric conversion I would have gotten this hood ornament for it even if it was originally a V8 because it looks cool and has a different meaning on the truck now.

@@accarter801 mine was too. A custom cab with a stick. Two tone red and white. It was really fun. The gear shifter went up as high as the dash. It was just cool. I think that might have made the mileage even worse though. Especially going 55-60+ mph. First gear was a granny gear so you could start in second. It was basically a three speed and it just wasn’t geared for freeway speeds. Trucks were only built for work back then. I bought mine in a small town in Nebraska while I was working there for a few months. I flew my roommate out and we drove it home to Seattle when the job I was on was finished. We went south to Joplin and then took Route 66 to California and up the west coast. It was a great trip but the first time I got on the freeway I thought the engine was going to blow. We definitely had to take our time and go slow but that just makes for a good road trip. Haha

To get more views this truck needs (deserves) more restomod done to it. Doll up the interior with a restored seat, nice headliner. Go on a rattle elimination campaign - may have to replace the window seals, door rubber. Even those exterior mirrors probably rattle (I had the same ones on 66 F100 and they rattled like crazy - replaced with ones from an early 80s F-Series). Get the heater and defroster working nicely - heatpump would be awesome and would allow adding AC - this would be a good video. There are electric power steering systems that might work on it - directly on the steering box. Another option for power steering is to get a normal hydraulic power steering box from an early 70s F100 (it'll bolt in) and then an electric pump to run it - probably easier (it's how the JL Wranglers work), but not as clean. It'd be awesome to add ABS. Need to show the truck as a useful daily driver... Maybe as some kind of working vehicle - add a big AC inverter to run tools - even a welder - like the Lightning.. Pizza delivery.. Auto parts delivery.. I suspect you might find a business in Boulder that partner with you on a series of videos.. Farm truck is an obvious suggestion although it'd get beat up more, which would be a shame.. Maybe delivering vegetables from farms to local farmers markets. Week in the life of series.. That's where its strengths will shine.

I love those people who need extra 40 miles once in a million years and use it as an excuse why EV doesn’t have enough range… seriously? You can easily add 40 miles of range in a supercharger in 5 minutes. It’ll take you longer to grub a cup of coffee. Even getting gas takes about 5 minutes, going through the credit card stuff, selecting fuel… with supercharger you plug in and go. 5 minutes and you got 75 miles added… people who have Teslas know it’s not an issue. Those who don’t, eventually will. And it will become better and faster in the next 3-5 years.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c Жыл бұрын
For me I only work 4 miles from home, so an EV would be great, except the ridiculous prices on them makes it unobtainable by many people who would benefit from one in reality, many are within range of an EV working for a daily driver for work....keep the gas car for road trips, drive the EV as a daily driver. I could easily go back and forth from work all week without charging with pretty much any of the current market EV's, but the cost is outrageous...even a regular gas vehicle is so outrageous I'll keep driving the vehicles I have that are long paid off LOL. Chevy is the only maker right now that has an EV that's even remotely affordable, but with inflation and higher interest rates, availability and dealer markups its still not affordable. At some point I'll be getting an E-Bike though for most of the year I can ride a bike back and forth to work.
