Some quick lore on father gascoigne. If you would’ve knocked on his house his daughter would’ve answered asking you to help find her parents. She would also give you a jukebox thing that they used to calm the father down when he was bloodlusted to bring him back to reality. Father gascoigne (the father) and her mother were both missing on the night of the hunt. The mother went out to look for gascoigne. The reason the father turns into a beast is because like the rest of yharnam they are victims of the old blood. During the boss fight of gascoin you will find the mother dead on top of an overhang. I think it was bc gascon in his bloodlusted state killed her. Even more depressing is that if you go back to the giant pig you killed you will find the ribbon that belonged to the daughter. She went out looking for her parents only to meet her death by a giant pig.

I'm not fully sure but I have seen a video saying that he became blood-lusted and went into his killing frenzy cause his wife died and the corpse of the person or beast you see him repeatedly hitting at the start of his cut scene was the thing that killed his wife but that might not be true

1. There is no "two hand" button. Some weapons, like the hunter axe (the axe the boss was using), automatically goes into two handed mode when transformed (L1). Your saw cleaver doesn't have a two handed mode. 2. Your saw cleaver scales better with *strength*. If you want a skill build I recommend using the saw spear. It's one of the loot you cut down in the sewer. They are very similar but the saw spear does slightly less damage at the cost of a better transformed mode and scaling with *skill*. 3. Both rolling and side stepping have the same I-frames. Side stepping has slightly less recovery frames but staying unlocked lets you aim where you wanna attack (better against bosses with breakable limbs like the Cleric Beast). AFAIK they cover the same distance.

i’m gonna bloodrant for a minute, done multiple platinum accounts for this game. and fyi before i start you did awesome getting through central yharnam you went just about everywhere you needed to go, although you would’ve have 5 stones at the end of the vid if you dropped down to get the loot off the hanging bodies you dropped to the sewer after talking to elien the crow hunter. your I-frame dodge in this game IS the side step. it’s just the animation they did for this game to emphasize the fluidity of hunters and the combat of this game. don’t be scared to explore just like you would in elden ring. you’ll miss whole areas and bosses if you don’t, the soonest area is a branch out from cathedral ward to old yharnam. you should utilize “trick attacks” almost all the time with the saw cleaver and many other weapons. you do that by hitting the transform button L1 during a combo. does a lot more damage. and the “transform” is this games 2 handed version essentially each weapon is 2 weapons in 1. parrying is all you use the gun for besides a bloodtinge build with select firearms so just use it for that. you can get extra bullets using the blood bullets in a 5:1 ration of bullets to blood vials needed to heal back up. last thing, we would all also love to see you go through the dlc as it has some of if not the best bosses in the game 4 main bosses 1 optional one. maybe even some chalice dungeon action if you’re up to it once you wrap everything else up. hope some of this helped out, god bless!!

The chalice dungeons are apart of the lore and you need to do all of them to get the platinum, but they are mostly copied and pasted from each other so it gets really boring.

Oh wow! Jev is continuing the series and I'm all here for it! I haven't played the game in so long but a bunch of comments on the last vid reminded me of some tips I could give you You don't have to worry about upgrading your gun or bloodtinge as a attribute unless you want to do a bloodtinge build Guns themselves are like slightly more useful parry sheilds in a souls game, find a gun with stats you like or a design you like and lvl it all the way with any spare blood echoes you aren't using anything for Also the trick weapons of the game have a special attack you can do that does more dmg then normal because it's an attack that leads into switching your weapon into it's alternate attack mode Finally just explore a bunch! It's like ds1 where the whole map is interconnected and there's a lack of boss souls for the game I believe (I don't remember but I'm sure someone else could clarify) so you'll find wrapons as items just scattered across the world and if your going with strength there's some weapons I think you may really like

Been loving the series so far here’s a couple of tips to make life in Yharnam easier. For the saw cleaver transforming mid attack gives great damage and is one of the faster weapons in the game. R1 L1 L1 R1 will get you through basically anything! Also parries aka Visceral attacks scale with your Skill stat, so there’s not really ever a need to upgrade your gun.

The transformed version of the saw cleaver just increases range and scales more with strength, however it removes the serrated side thats in the base form of it. Its why most ppl opt for the saw spear that scales off skill alot and has two serrated sides. Its where u dropped those chains down into the sewer with the rats at 5:10. Gascoigne (pronounced gas-coin) is pretty much the beginner learner boss that lets you learn the basic movements in side stepping and the mechanics in parrying. Youll want to upgrade ur gun if you are doing a bloodtinge build, it just increases the damage of the bullets doesnt really do much for the parry thats mainly skill. Also good combos for the saw weapons is R1 R1 L1 L1 or any variation of that (we need 26 videos)

Hey Jev. the way weapons work is that they have two modes, not a dedicated two hand. They essentially transform as if they are two different weapons. If you attack then press the transform button you can do a transform attack, varying your strikes and even doing more damage some times. Hope this helps!

Good job with gascoigne! A little tip, whichever arm your enemy is swinging, try to dodge towards it. For example, if they’re swinging an axe with their right hand, dodging towards the swing will put you right behind them, a perfect position to counter or hold r2 for a heavy. Also, you can use L1 mid combo for a switch attack. That does some SERIOUS damage and with the saw cleaver, it’s incredibly fast and effective. I recommended trying out a couple different weapons tho, just to add some variety. The weapons in this game feel AMAZING

Another small tip but really helpful - use your vials after a battle before picking up items from enemies, as most likely the item pickups from enemies would be the vials. This is so that your inventory remains topped up instead of the storage. Most useful in the case of having full vials at the end of a battle. I used to do that regardless though.

Not every weapon has 2 handing, the transform mode (the left bumper) is technically the 2 handed mode, some weapons will actually 2 hand, and some will still let you use the gun and parry. Ths Bold Hunters Mark is basically just a homeward bone, it returns you to your last lamp. The items you cut down but didn't drop down to get in that one building was an upgrade material and a new weapon.

Upgrade your skill attribute if you want to do more damage on your visceral attacks. It’s pretty sweet to parry a boss and they lose anywhere from a 1/4 to half of their HP (I would level mine up until the soft cap which should be about 40 I believe). Also if you use your trick weapons ability and switch between the shortened and lengthened form, it can build your beasthood meter (only if you’ve popped a beast pellet). Idk if you’ve found any of the pellets or not, but using the pellets and the trick ability go together like butter and toast for amazing damage output in this game.

One suggestion that can really be helpful is that upgrading the Skill stat really ups the visceral attack damage (attack you do after parrying an enemy). Strength also upgrades it but Skill does it dramatically. Can do like 2500-3000 damage late game

So Jev, no spoilers. You’ll need three items for unlocking the true ending. Here’s some vague information if you eventually decide you want to do that. First one is granted by simple game progression, second is hidden in the old hunters workshop in central Yahrnam, last one is gained by doing the blood maidens questline Also you do not two hand in this game, there is no weight you can use whatever you want without fat rolling, the weapon transformation can be used mid attack to chain combos and deal bonus damage, for dodging you’ll want to mostly dodge in and to the left for basically every enemy, and there is only a few enemy’s where locking off and using the full roll is optimal so get used to quickstepping.

There is an NPC that you missed, its not that important but its still kinda cool and says a lot about the world in which bloodborne takes place. There is a ladder in the sewers that leads to a young girl that would've asked you to find her mother. Her mother went out looking for the young girl's father who is also a hunter but never came back from the hunt. The husband is Father Gascoigne himself, he is the father of the young girl and you find the body of her mother in the arena. He succombed to the plague in which the enemies that you fight are affected by and became one, leading him to kill his own wife due to bloodlust. The guy in a wheelchair that you see in the very first cutscene is called the blood minister and we have no idea who he is due to very little info about him. The lore in this game is some of the most interesting but also complex in the soulsborne series. If you wish to understand it better I recommend that you take the time to explore the areas and meet the different NPCs. Hope this becomes a full series:)

As others have commented, you do want to dodge into your enemies, 95% of the time in the direction the attack is coming from. If you're going to parry, shoot right when they finish raising their weapon, and dodge towards them after. The reason why is that if you do get the parry, you'll be close enough to do the visceral attack. If you miss, you can dodge again to the side and likely not take damage, or just one hit's worth. You cannot parry large bosses, but anything medium or small usually can. Some leveling advice: The first soft cap for your stats is 25 levels. I would recommend, if you're staying with the cleaver, to level strength and vitality equally, with skill being 5 levels behind, and getting your endurance to 15. Unlike other Souls games, when working on your levels, I would prioritize your damage stat instead of vitality. The reason is due to the rally mechanic (you take damage, hit them back to recover sometimes all of it). For example, with your current stats, I would put strength to 20, then vitality to 20, then get skill and endurance to 15. After that, repeat the cycle until your skill is at 25. I would probably leave endurance at 20 (once you get there) for the first playthrough, as you likely won't need more than that. Also, your visceral damage scales exclusively off skill, the skill scaling of your weapon in hand, and the thrust damage of the weapon. This is why you should level skill up, at least to that soft cap on strength builds. It makes the reward for parrying very satisfying. It's what makes up for skill-based weapons having lower regular damage in the later portion of the game. Their visceral attacks are usually 2 to 3 times more damaging than a strength build. Also, you cannot two hand weapons in Bloodborne. Some of the weapons are two handed when you trick (modify/extend) them, meaning you can't use your gun, which is usually bad against hunters and small bosses, and really good against the big ones. A little tip about tricking the weapon: if you're fighting an enemy and you trick your weapon, you attack while it changes. These attacks have higher damage multipliers compared to most options, so you can chain combos together. I would recommend playing around with it in the dream and seeing what you like. Sorry about the paragraph, I've played this game a bit too much. EDIT: I forgot two things. One, you can upgrade your pistol if you really want to, but I would only recommend doing it if you have spare materials and don't plan to change to another weapon later on. The only thing upgrading your pistol does is increase the damage it deals; it has no effect on your ability to parry. The second thing is that I would recommend you explore, even if it doesn't seem too fun. You can get a lot of useful materials, find hidden NPC quests and lore, and most importantly: fashion and weapons. Armor is pretty much useless in this game, so you can get real creative with what you want to wear without losing performance, and some weapons cannot be outright bought using badges, you have to find them in the world. Now I'm done.

A good idea for the weapon you're using is the transform attacks, when doing the basic attacks click the button that usually brings out your transformed form to do a transformed attack those do more dmg, can stun bosses if you hit their limbs and are a good closing attack for normal enemies, it would be something like r1 r1 and then l1 to do it. Also there's no 2 handing in this game tho some weapons transformed form 2hands their weapon Also leveling skill for your weapon is very good if you want to do a parry based build as skill increases riposte damage (and the saw cleaver scales well in both skill and str but skill is better)

Spoilers but I think you'll want to know this so that you don't need to do a second playthrough for all the bosses in base game. There are three bosses in Bloodborne which are not tied to what ending you go for that can easily be missed. Those are Maryr Logarious, Celestial emmisarry (super easy), and Ebreitas. You need to unlock two secret areas. Castle Cainhurst for Logarious and Upper Cathedral Ward for the other two I mentioned earlier. There is also a key item called Third Umbilical cord; you get one after killing the second boss in the game and taking the lift up. The other you get by returning to the starting area and killing an NPC. Once you consume those in Hinters dream before the final boss you are now able to fight a second final boss and get the "true"/secret ending.

•Save up Insight, I believe more than 10 Insight will let you see enemies that you can’t see with low insight, like the Amygdala and some other invisible enemies. •Farm Blood viles and bullets, you can get blood viles almost all the time by killing trolls. for bullets, kill any riflemen. •You can get even stronger using the memory altar (inside the workshop, - table with a bunch of candles) you can equip up to 3 caryll runes. •You can do some other combos with your L1, press R1 (or R2) about 2 - 3 times and press L1 to do a transforming attack. Super helpful if surrounded by enemies or for show •To jump, hold circle to run and press circle to jump, it is annoying if you want to dodge/dash but it’s the default setting (can’t change it) •Exploring is something you want to do instead of going to the bosses immediatly (unless you’re speedrunning) you will find materials that will help you like Beast pallets •I would upgrade endurance, skill and strength more than vitality/health. •Press R2/L2 to switch faster when you want to switch attire and weapons •You can’t 2 hand weapons, only trick weapons (which it will do automatically when you press L1) the hunter’s axe is a trick weapon, while the saw cleaver is a normal weapon. 2 handed weapons are good but will use so much endurance and strength. The saw cleaver is already a cheese weapon, super effective

Jev, the dude who gave you a transfusion at the beginning was indeed the werewolf that also tried to kill you. The point of that character is just that he's just a twisted doctor, drugging patients before ultimately killing them. The whole idea around blood in the game is that certain blood carries certain powers/properties. And Yharnam was at one point known to have powerful healing blood, even establishing a church around the practice. However as you see it now, it is overrun with beasts and horrifying monsters partly due to the blood actually turning man into said beasts. The other part has to do with The School of Insight, which you'll learn about eventually. But yeah as of now; blood turns you into a beast

Dodging forward and to the right is THE STRAT for Bloodborne. That is all you need to evade most bosses. It’s almost overpowered it’s so effective. Happy to see you play this :) I played it for the first time last summer when I broke my ankle and just got to chill in bed for 6 weeks.

For the bigger bosses it's better if you dodge into them, and sometimes not locking onto a bigger boss makes it easier to dodge attacks

To @ando2421 's point, if you uses beast blood pellets (for more damage) and start with R1 then chain L1, L1, L1, your beast blood meter will build up significantly faster.

Hi Jev, hopefully you see this before your next playthrough. I would 100% suggest a Skill Build for your first playthrough, you dont have to worry about much really. The best weapon would be the Saw Spear which you get from the sewers with the rats, you'd be best levelling up vitality, stamina, and skill only. Upgrade only your main weapon. Blood gems are something you'll worry about later, but all you need to know is put in the gem that has the most increase in damage. Another tip would be the "limb break" feature, its the most fun thing to do and if you do it enough you can stagger a boss for a visceral. Happy hunting! edit: Oh and another thing, if you went back to the ladder right before the pile of crawling corpses, you can find a little girl npc in a window.

Jev, if you press L1 after starting a chain with r1, you do more dmg. You can pop a beast blood pellet and use this combo to build up your beast for bosses and you start hitting really hard, but you have to be aggressive, it decays quickly

Some questions/tips incase you somehow find this! This game gets a lot more aggressive, so you can’t be panic dodging like elden ring or you’ll fuck up and die. Obviously it’s not as bad as elden ring but you’re forced to play a more aggressive play style, as shown by the lock-on dodge. Whenever you see a boss (beast bosses like cleric beast) react to a part of their body (like how cleric beast would react to his arms getting hurt) that means that it’s broken. Broken parts take more damage, and breaking another part of their body usually results in a parry option (if you have also been hitting the head) This really only applies to like 2-3 bosses in this game, the rest you get parry by breaking their poise (that just goes for all souls games). I’ll be watching this more throughout, and will be giving my points and responses. I’ve beaten the game like over 25 times in one character and have 100%’d the game. Also you should do the dlc, it’s a very late game thing so I suggest doing it before/after beating the last boss in the last area. You’ll get new dialogue if you do it beforehand. Any case good luck fellow hunter! And remember..Fear the old blood.

If you’re going for a strength build, the kirk hammer and the hunters axe are truly excellent strength weapons for early game. What you really want is Ludwig’s Holy blade (and eventually the holy moonlight sword in the dlc imo). When you get a hunter badge it expands the shop in the dream, eventually you’ll be able to buy both of those weapons pretty early on with badges you get from bosses. Also take advantage of the weapon transformations, they allow extended combos and mixups during combat. It throws a special attack if you transform mid attack.
