Tobias got his contract because the Nets were about to offer him a 4 yr Max or near Max in couple of days. However at the last moment, Kyrie convince KD to sign with Nets. But Tobias was worth his contract for the 1st 2 yrs at least. If instead his contract was only 22% less (140 M over 5 yrs) with decreasing salary, there wouldn't have been complaints. 90% of fans don't understand the CBA. If Tobi was making 20 M less, there still wouldn't have been a way to improve the roster. That's because the Sixers were well over the Cap every year. That is Tobi barely affected roster construction.

as a 76er fan I wanted mccain, think all mccain will learn from maxey. rookie maxey shot 28% from 3, and developed. in mccain first summer league game he shot 6/15 0/6 from three, the shots will fall but he showed his great finishing like maxey. he’s a mini maxey he’s perfect for us
@WARnTEA5 ай бұрын
He's also been somewhat constrained by his college team where they focused on getting wide open looks from 3, so a lot of McCain's shooting percentage comes from wide open shots and he hasn't been able to really develop a consistent 3 off the dribble yet. Sounds pretty familiar because thats exactly how Maxey was when he entered the league. Also, summer league games are notoriously bad for shooters because there is basically no structure to the team and everyone is just trying to put together highlight reels to get signed onto a gleague or nba roster. So what you end up getting is the shooters trying to force up bad shots a lot of the time, where in a real team environment there would be plays designed to find open 3's.

@rgross19675 ай бұрын
Maxey & McCain as a backcourt is terrible DEFENSIVELY! However I could see Nurse allowing them to play together in short stints because of the pressure they could put on some teams with their shooting. The lack of depth at defensive wings will limit there potential to see the court together but if Morey does acquire a pure perimeter defender with athleticism that would open the door. There ability to shoot from deep, create and scorer is intriguing and will take the league by surprise if they in fact do mesh well.
@johnrowland59225 ай бұрын
Not sure about your point on small guards taking time to develop. Steph was a very good player almost immediately (certainly by like 60% through his rookie year), and Maxey was a rotation guy right away and very good by his 2nd year, despite being a late 1st pick. Both kept getting better of course but they also had their strengths translate to the NBA very well. Brunson took longer but his game is mostly about manipulating space and reading defenses etc so that makes sense, which isn't the case for McCain.

The Sixers had a "small" backcourt that worked. About 24 yrs. ago, AI at 5'11" (Iverson is not 6'). Eric Snow at 6'3". The main difference was they were good at defense. I'm not worried about having an undersized backcourt. Both Maxey and McCain are lights out shooters.

I’ll believe McCain is a sixer when the off-season is over and he suits up in the first game. Until then I see him as a piece that could be used to land a starting 2 or another forward. Ever since my 6ers traded away Mikal Bridges I just don’t trust them to keep their picks 😅. I do think he could be a valuable piece off th e bench for the sixers tho…and could find significant play time sooner than expected. I could see him playing 15-20 minutes a night off the bench for them.

@Vegetado5 ай бұрын

@WARnTEA5 ай бұрын
I think its most likely that McCain eventually earns his minutes as Maxey's backup because Maxey plays the most minutes on the team which leaves his backup with about 8minutes a game. This is nice for Philly because they are very similar players and can design their offense around essentially having a Maxey type player at the point all game long. Another reason why I suspect this to happen is because Lowry is definitely going to get most of his minutes at the 2, because Maxey and McCain are still learning how to be effective point guards, so Lowry's experience as a point guard allows the Sixers the opportunity to split Maxey/McCain's positions in half off/on ball. Both of them are lightsout off ball catch and shoot players. Also, Lowry is a Nick Nurse guy and there is no way in hell Nurse is going to keep him on the bench. If lowry takes minutes from the wing players he can get 20+ minutes a game, even though he will primarily be responsible for on ball playmaking because Maxey/McCain will shift to mostly offball when Lowry is on the court. Then next year, or the year after that I fully expect Maxey and McCain to gain such a good synergy and competitive drive with eachother that they will be played side by side dynamically trading on ball/off ball possessions to give eachother more opportunities to shoot the easy catch and shoot 3s, get easy points on fast breaks, or blow by defenders with their drives and kick outs. I honestly feel like there is no way McCain fails in the Sixers. Maxey talks about how grateful he is that Embiid believed in him all of the time, so I'm sure he will recognize McCain as someone that needs his support. As long as McCain's work ethic is as good as they say it is, Maxey is definitely going to take McCain under his wing and pour all of his effort into teaching him the skills that he needs to survive in the NBA as an undersized guard. It won't be long until they start competing with eachother in the gym and pushing eachother to grow.

This is a pretty lousy analysis comparing what the Sixers had last year compared to this year. The team was subpar last year, but allowed Maxey to flourish. Adding McCain will take touches away from Maxey and hurt his game. Also McCain was rebounding against shorter big men in college, idk why you think that’ll translate in the bigs
@WARnTEA5 ай бұрын
Rebounds always translate into the NBA for guards because they are mostly rebounding 3 point shots which bounce outside of the paint and require the skill to predict the trajectory and bounce to get into position to grab the rebound. Guards also usually have a great vertical leap and rebounders in the paint often get lazy about jumping, so its not uncommon to see a small guy snatch a rebound away in traffic. Forwards that are undersized on the otherhand often struggle to get rebounds. Also, McCain is brand new, he is not going to take touches away from Maxey, most likely he will just mop up the time Maxey spends on the bench resting which is only like 8 minutes a game. Plus, he might need to cover some minutes left behind by Lowry if he gets injured during the season.
