I love these "weak draft class" years. It just means that the good players are spread out all over the place and it shows who the really good GM's are. Getting a top pick when there are obvious stand outs is much easier than having a more even field to evaluate. The 76ers have been getting some good young players over the years.

His confidence and passion and pure glee while he plays makes him such a joy to watch, he really is like Maxey 2.0. But he’s doing a,k this a couple years earlier. It’s wild. And the kid isn’t just hitting shots but he is making the correct decision like 99% of the time. Which is insane for a rookie guard.

12:25 This play was even better than you mentioned, because that whole time he was going under the basket he was staring down the shooter in the corner, which drew Bron away from the cutter and led to the basket.

I love the kid but his ceiling is has a definitive ceiling to growth for the 3 reasons you said and one you didnt. He's got a slow handle & is very right hand dominant. He needs to work on his left extensively, particularly as a finisher as you mentioned. Playing next to Embiid who draws defenders insider doesnt help as someone like Curry benefitted from open lanes next to Draymond. But, pairing him with Maxey is smart because maxey is one of the better G finishers in the league with his touch. I do see him getting better because both he & Maxey work extensively on their games. His biggest flaw on offense is the lack of explosiveness to drive by guys who he gets a step on like you described but I do think he can improve on it slightly with more off-season work. His passing; not vision is lacking, if you watch him its clear he sees the passes, he's just not good enough of a ball handler to make the pass on time, he needs to work on passing angles to take the next step on offense or he will be limited to a bench scoring role. He & Maxey can work as a small G lineup but only if both can playmake together for others. Finally his defense, he lacks the ability to be a good defender simply because of his lack of size & length. Steph Curry overcame this with a defensive scheme that hid him as much as possible AND by being a very smart defender. I'm not sure if he has the spacial awareness to become a good defender. But having a healthy Joel Embiid will overcome that as Embiid is a top 5-10 defense by himself.
@shubanobi2206Күн бұрын
I think most of these are definitionally not a ceilings, a ceiling is something you can't break or "aren't supposed to be able to break" but all of what you said are skills he can and is expected to improve on over his time at the league. It's like saying someone's ceiling is how good they are at shooting-there is no ceiling you just get better at it or you don't. The last one is definitely an actual ceiling, he's a small gaurd and that's going to make it hard for him no matter what. Everything else he can improve on

He's been carrying a heavy load so he definitely deserves some leeway, but he's really struggled shooting the ball. 39% from the field and 26.5% from 3 through his first 8. Today was only his 2nd game of the season shooting above 48%.

It’s wild to see him go from “ehh I dunno if he will even get big minutes” to finishing out games for us and being our best, most consistent player, it’s wild. I have never seen anything like it and I hope he doesn’t think too much about it and just keeps ballin.

I wanted McCain on the Magic more than any other player this offseason - was preaching that he was the best player in this draft all pre-draft, a cross between Steph, Brunson, and Donovan Mitchell. I thought he was the player most likely to achieve star status and knew he would make it to 10 or lower in the draft due to league idiocy, and wanted the Magic to trade up this draft for him - the Magic could use an offensive stud at the guard position, especially point guard.
@thezackast27523 күн бұрын
