"Is there a chance for promotion?" "Why would I want to do that? Then I'd lose my union protections" This tells me everything I need to know. If you're letting the union stop you from advancing then it's union control, not protection. She has no place to complain about how much she's paid or job security. It would be a whole different matter if she said she tried but they won't give her a chance

The main thing I worry about for AI in the medium term is that it might take away the first few rungs on every single "ladder". Basically, my worry is that it will only exascerbate the '"entry level" position that requires years of experience' problem.

You know there used to be an entire industry around cleaning horse poop from the street. That went under because of cars. What grew out of the auto industry? Oil rig workers, car assembly, gas stations, repair shops, parts stores, etc. Usually when we have a new industry that displaces an old one we end up creating more jobs then we lose. You just got to have guts and the ability to adapt.

We gradually loose jobs. The percentage of people working is going down for some time now. The percentage of people doing necessary jobs is already insanely low. The rest is just people doing unnecessary stuff moving money around, producing rubbish. And AI is just another step in that direction. In a few years, we either introduce strong polices to prevent that, or the accumulation and centralisation of wealth will spiral out of control (leading to a total societal breakdown aka. Eat the rich).

Yup, i worked as a welder. Robotic welding came into the picture. So I learned how to operate and program the robots and made more money. Now I'm in quality control. Using hand tools was a big part of the job. Then we got computer controlled measuring machines. Did our job faster, can measure a lot more points than hand tools can and can measure things to .oooooo1 of an inch. So we can now produce a wider range of products and to a much tighter tolerance. And we can do it faster. So we can take on more jobs and customers. Learning how to operate and program the machines bumped my pay up by 3 times.

My thoughts on this whole issue basically boil down to a few central ideas: 1) When comes to AI art/Ai powered creative pursuits, I think the big issue is copyright. Bots that use someone else's work to train an AI (without payment or permission) shouldn't be allowed, same with tracing and reselling someone's work. 2) Things have been getting more automated for decades. Service/labor workers didn't care until they were literally getting replaced with machines. 3) Following up idea #2, people have let this go for decades. In my opinion, the reason automation is this deep into the service /labor industry is because both consumers and workers have let the people in charge (businesses, gov't, etc), run things without little to no pushback from the 'people'. (same with moving operations overseas, etc.). This is likely because they have been benefitting from automation and haven't questioned it much. tl;dr - People have let things get this far with automation, as much as the businesses have been pushing it, they have not resisted it. The 'people', consumers and workers alike, need to start pushing back if they want this to change. Whether it's by regulations or other methods. Consumers are going to have to start sacrificing lower prices and maybe some quality to preserve jobs. Otherwise, peeps best start picking up a trade or other applicable skills and be ready to work really hard.

(Tagging on the end here) There is an issue with scale as well. Especially when it comes to production. Machines can sort, assemble, and package faster and better than a human assembly line now. Makes it even harder to solve, with how much 'stuff' people need/want these days. Obviously, this is a much bigger discussion than a KZbin comment can accommodate. This is just what I think when it's boiled down.

I'm not going to pay $3 or more for a large soda at Burger King when the 7-Eleven next door has a considerably larger cup for a bit over $2. These places just made themselves too expensive to use often for me; rich people still go since they don't care about prices. So when the state jacked up the wage, that just reinforced the avoidance mindset. I've been picking up lunch at Walmart on the way to work since the summer of 2024. Before 2024, when i visited McDonald's (the Burger Kings in my area don't have ordering kiosks), i exclusively used the ordering kiosks. That location had one time when all the kiosks were down. All the other times there were the other 4. The other McDonald's I've visited in other cities didn't have all their kiosks down but i didn't visit them often enough to note their failure rate. Kiosks are great for people on the go especially with removing things from the food or adding to it (double eggs on an Egg McMuffin). Never went to Dunkin Donut.

39:30 a good place to look at salary is the GS pay rate from the federal government. They are a bit lower than industry pay, but very close. Engineers are around GS-7 fresh from college, GS-12 for the junior engineers, and GS-14 for the senior. So 57k/year, $101k/year, and $142k/year. The middle level of that is a bit over $50/hr. Btw, the locality adjustment for LA is the same as Alaska or the DC area (which goes out to like Front Royal and Mt Weather), and those two places are much cheaper to live than LA. So if you work in the federal government, try to get something at Mt Weather or around there to get good pay you get to keep, beautiful Appalachian scenery, and reasonably priced housing.

The problem isn't the automation, the problem is that our currency is worth so much less that people need multiple jobs to barely get by. The prices of things need to be brought down through making the currency stronger on a global stage. To give you an idea of how bad things have gotten just over my short 29-year old life, 50k in purchasing power 1995 back when I was born has the same purchasing power of 103k today. In other words, your and my money is literally worth 52% less than my parent's money was when they were my age. Hell, even comparing now to 2020, 50k in 2020 is the same as 61k now. This is a huge problem that's only going to get worse unless a few major changes happen to stop consolidating money and stop legally binding corporations to be infinitely profit driven in a World with finite resources/money. Overturn Ford vs Dodge Brothers. PS. New viewer and love the videos :D Edit: Spelling

my view is businesses should view sustainable profits as the way to go long term, there is only so much money a company can get out of raising prices to get that "year after year record profits" that their investors pressure them into getting at any cost.

@@B1-997 The problem is the heads of these corporations are legally responsible to generate more money and to prioritize stockholders above all else, which in practice means generating more money year after year at any expense. When the first biger factory builded, the smaller workshops: They are stealing the WORK! When the first steam engines powered lines get started, the old factories: They are stealing the WORK! When the first robotic - aoutomatised lines started, the steam engines powered factories: They are stealing the WORK! So why i need to still do my shiti labor work? Why not steal somebody form me FINALLY? Jokes aside, you always need to work something, just the work places and the job's type changing. If finally something really steall's every job, thats a good thing! BEcause we don1t need to work anymore! Just vibe in, playing games and living a long, happy life! For the kiosk's. I preffer lto better them because, if i don't know what i need, i don't need to ask the whole palet from poor guy in the cassa, i can check myself in the screen and order what i want, its a WIN WIN situation. Obviusly, they need less people to serv the customers, but i never heard abouth somebody who's dream to deal with stupid peoples in a MCDonalds pult... P.S.: "Everyone is replaceable."

A life of only vibing and playing will get boring really fast. Part of the problematic social zeitgeist we see in the West is people living in relative comfort growing bored and will seek out if not cause new problems themselves. And who’s to say that the people running the machines wouldn’t use us as expendables anyway? Life is a neverending puzzle. 🤷‍♂️

Right now, my energy is going full focus on tackling California law AB2426, as the rights of consumers is being taken away… however, I have done some deep thought into the AI problem. I do want to create some sort of fictional bill that we can debate and people can take idea’s from. For example, in broad strokes (as I want to go into detail as to try to close any loop holes, and that the bill isn’t that open to interpretation), I would do a 25/75 rule. Any project that is being used for the intent of making money, 25% of that project can be used by AI. 75% has to have human hands, thoughts, and created by scratch. So for like call of duty, they have implemented AI into their season passes and tags. As long as the campaign is hand made, the modes are programmed by a human, as long as the maps isn’t made with algorithm, and objects placed by a person, I think it’s ok. It’s shitty, don’t get me wrong, but we can’t stop progress. It’s a new tool to be used and abused, which is why we need regulations to limit its abuses. Or when it comes to music, you can have a base line beat created for the song, but you as a person, needs to write it, come up with the mixes, and it has to be clear, that you were assisted with AI. Or switch it around where, the AI came up with the lyrics, but you did the beats and came up with the melody, and a person is singing. But all this is just for making money. If you are a person who just wants to play with AI with no intention in gaining income, you pretty much get free reign, but your vid needs to have the AI created tag, description needs to say it’s AI generated, and in the comments by the creator, needs to state that it was created with help by an AI. These are just my broad strokes on the subject of AI. To bring to like McDonald’s, with the machines in the front, it’s fine, as long as the company building is full of employees and are paid a livable wage.

@@grimjoe4739if it’s regulated, it would be impossible. As doing so, would be in violation of the state/federal law. Right now, there is no regulation, so therefore, my rule for a business, would be overshadowed and laughed at. But, if my hypothetical bill was turned into regulations, that 30% threshold would hold no water.
