The reason why Johnson is compromised today (with respect to payment for decorating no. 10 etc) is because the PM's salary doesn't pay enough to meet his commitments, and he has expensive commitments because he's acted appallingly in the past and has had 6 or 8 children with multiple partners... Johnson is a disastrous mixture of infidelity, lies, and irresponsibility. He's unfit for office and we would be better off without him.

As a 2nd gen son of an immigrant I've never understood the working class support (not all, but generally) for the Tory party. Apparently its my fault now as well why they are underperforming. But they have been underperforming since the beginning. Just that kids of immigrants have to pursue technically qualified careers where one is admitted on merit and not class or creed.

I'm English and neither left or right. Never voted Tory and would never vote Liebore either. Two wings on the same vulture. The reason Britain voted Tory, is because they are lost in blinkered paradigm whereby they are offered the useless choice between bad or worse and feel they need to 'participate' and exercise their vote. If it changed anything, you wouldn't have the right to vote. When people wake up and tear the system down, is when we may see worthwhile change, but I won't hold my breath.

The most painful aspect is that nobody really comes out and says it the way you just did. We're weaker as a nation, were haemorrhaging credibility worldwide, especially our economy. We're weaker as individuals, let down by inequality and inequity, a lack of fairness and, often by our health and social care system, we're in "near serfdom", brought about by a new, self-assigned aristocracy. We are victims of Social Darwinism, where, via the welfare system, we are classed as, if we are lucky, the "deserving poor", but more often as "scroungers". All this "weakening" of the "lower classes", in so many ways, seems to make us "respectful" of the "toffs" that lead us, often into the next social or economic disaster, perhaps even war, with the absurd spending on defence, particularly an obscene nuclear weapons program, does nothing but make the UK poor and more of a target should a nuclear conflict ever break out. This systematic weakening, the mind-numbing commercialisation of all parts of our lives is feeding insecurity, feelings of powerlessness. And, alas, the frightened will follow those who, through their arrogance convey a false image of confidence and fearlessness.
@PORRRIDGE_GUN
@PORRRIDGE_GUN 3 жыл бұрын
Brilliant comment and summarises how I feel about this country. Our credibility, never stellar in my lifetime, is in the toilet. Scroungers are the Royals and the corporations who extract much more than the poor do. Every additional nuclear weapon is a hospital closed or benefits cut and does not enhance our defence one bit. Money is clearly the root of all evil in this country. Look at the business of a £30 food parcel, where £25 was pure profit for the shitbag Tory donor company involved and £5 of scraps was delivered to a person in dire need. The fact that a simple act of government in providing £30 food aid results in £25 profit to evil and greedy bastards shows we exist in an economy rigged in favour of the very rich at the expense of the poor. The Tories and their corporate leeches have their hands in our pockets, but they want us to believe it is the poor, immigrants, asylum seekers, foreign aid recipients are the ones fleecing us. The Tories are thieves and always have been.

I live in a community where the average income is barely above minimum wage, and the proudest claim most can make is that they "know their place." In fact it's only days since a neighbour was explaining to me that the whole trouble with the world today was people not accepting the "station in life God had placed them in." Predictably, they just returned a Tory MP. I know the man personally - he wouldn't piss on any of them if they were on fire.

But the fact is - often because of others - I got breaks that pushed me up and on. I shudder to think of my life without them. As a result, I don't get judgemental about others who failed in that. Trump showed us that the US can no longer be relied on as an ally in NATO, Joe Biden is more likely to re-engage with the other NATO powers but isolationism is a very strong force in US politics. If we had remained in the EU and combined EU armed forces had become a reality who do you think would have been the commanding generals, admirals and Air Marshals? British, of course, as we have the largest armed forces of any nation in the EU and for the first time since WW2, British senior officers would not be taking orders from Americans as has been the situation in NATO! An EU with both 'soft' economic power and 'hard' military power could be a real force for good in the world. I write this from the relative safety of my trough/trench hoping that the post Brexit horrors will pass me by without causing me and mine too much damage. One can only hope that when the dust has settled there will be a reckoning. Sadly the worst offenders will use their wealth and privilege to escape justice as is already happening with the wealthy Brexit supporters taking their businesses to EU nations and themselves to tax havens like Monaco. The actual toffs, when you encounter them, are vile. And working class cynicism is mainly directed to the middle class or just turned inwards via race, sex, age etc. I'm guilty of it too but here I think he's showing contempt for the working class, sort of lumping them in as they were all one homogeneous unit.

Everything he said is true. However, the missing bit is that the middle class despise the working class too. And they are enthusiastically reciprocated by it in this sentiment. Numerically, most people belong to those two categories, so it's their contrast that helps the tiny, tiny "upper crust" to keep its power. If this wasn't the case, a few thousands toffs wouldn't be able to control society as they do. Working class cap doffers do love a toff, but mostly it's because through him they think they can stick it up to the avocado munchers.

Can anyone really blame us for wanting to get out of it. Its sad & i do feel sorry for the rest of the UK but what else can we do? You do keep electing the Etonian political class who, as Robert said, "hate the working class." They have nothing but contempt for them & anyone else that isn`t in their club. @Credible Threat don’t know about that? The former Labour voters who let this dickhead into power don’t sound like the type to vote on such issues. I think they were just very very very pissed-off at being left out to dry. Who can blame them? It doesn’t mean that another dose of Tory austerity/hypocrisy will make them whole, I think it just felt good to them to fuck-over their old friends… Similar story with Brexit, I should say. But then, many of those who voted that way, don’t remember what it’s like to be at the absolute mercy of the Tory party.
