The brave people of Virginia do not get the credit they deserve for all they accomplished in taming and building our Republic. Thank you for retelling of this atrocity the Virginia's overcame.

Atrocities on both sides lady
@7mm08man3 сағат бұрын
@@darrenmcg97yes, atrocities were committed on both sides. The truth needs to be told about how brutal life was during that time. It ain’t all just about how bad the white man was. Native Americans took captives, enslaved people from outside their tribe, and tortured prisoners.

@@darrenmcg97 I have total admiration for my ancestors who built this Republic from 1618 on. I do not subscribe to the "they all did it" club.

You should listen to the story of Jenny Wiley. She was taken captive and finally got away and came back home.. it took place in KY and WV. Theres a park near Paintsville, KY dedicated in her memory. Jenny Wiley State Park. There's a lake there too .

Early 2000s I used to go to opportunity shops or maybe charity shops where you live. I'd buy old 1950 ish books about the second WW. It would be the only book they ever wrote about their personal experiences. Heartfelt, like this.

There was a novelized account of this history called 'Follow the River' written by James Alexander Thom, published in 1980. There was a made for TV movie of the book named 'Follow the River' dated 1995 with Ellyn Bursten. I enjoyed the novel, its pretty good but parts of the women's ordeal was imagined. I prefer the historical account. Amazing resourcefulness and hardiness of the two women and the settlers in that time and place. It was not easy for the natives to live in the wild either.

Another good video, thanks There is Town called Draper in Virginia close to the New River There is the New River Gorge national park now probably looks about the same now as it did back in the 1700s There was a Lyman Copeland Draper who collected papers and did interviews with some of the last remaining 18th century settlers His manuscripts make for some good reading

Hey, dead horse, how are you doing? It's the guy who thought you were an Indian sometime back. Anyway, I read your remarks being from the UK doesn't mean much to me, will give you a like for your efforts anyway,

Read the book "Follow the River" by James Alexander Thom. It's very good. The movie, not so much.

I liked the movie. If the book is better, I will definitely read it.👍🏻

@cplmpcocptcl6306 when you read the book, you will wonder why they compressed it into 2 hours. They very easily could have done a 3 part mini-series out of it. Enjoy the book. Merry Christmas.

First sentence in “they were attacked in their homes” *they are illegally living on land they don’t own and are thus subject to the governing people’s ruling* they shouldn’t be there, they forced the natives hand to do something

@ so if the natives sailed to Europe instead and started cutting down forests and building villages on owned land it would be okay? And when told to stop ignored the ruling and when made to stop by force they become violent and are now hostile. So they now potentially kill on sight any European all the while still expanding on land they claim as their own but it was already owned by another “kingdom”
