@@lokisgodhi I disagree. To come into the market with Honda already ahead in the Asian segment and the Germans having two brands already with their brand laid down, to come into with a new brand took big balls with those guys already established. Definitely relevant. Lexus just did it better. I'm a Ford guy and I'm getting a Lincoln after my Focus and Mustang so I wouldn't buy either Acura or Lexus but from what I've seen Lexus really did great. I'm late to this video, but I bought my wife a 2012 ES 350 years ago. Love the car, only 49,000 miles for $15,000 I thought was a steal, but the dash was sticky and reflected light at times that were blinding off the windshield. After watching one of your videos explaining how Lexus would replace the dash, I was skeptical. It was getting older. We took it in for service to Sewell Lexus in Fort Worth and mentioned the dash issue after you said Lexus would replace it. They did not hesitate. Five minutes after talking to the service tech, they said a dash was on order from Lexus and would be replaced at no charge within a couple of weeks. This is a 2012 ES 350 with now 68,000 miles getting a new dash from the manufacturer for free! Lexus has a customer for life. Beyond impressed!

Jeremy Clarkson hated Lexus because they were so correct. Sour grapes if you will. We've a 1990 LS400, the first real Lexus and a 2000 LS400, the best of the 400's, in our little collection. LS400 was the car that nearly ended Cadillac's existence. Mention them to GM engineers and they bristle, while also admitting that every new LS Lexus design iteration is bought as soon as available, dismantled and copied as cheaply as possible. Then crushed to get rid of the evidence. Big Three = Reverse engineered Japanese.

Hello Scotty! I started as a car derailer for Toyota back in 1981 when I was in high school and worked my way up in the dealership eventually becoming a Lexus Master Diagnostic Specialist tech. I was hired for a Lexus dealer and corporate trained 1 year prior to the actual arrival of their launch date to the US. One dealership that I worked at in the mid 90's also sold Cadillac. I would walk through the Caddy showroom once a week and notice the poor fit and finish assembly quality of the Caddies. Lexus forced other competitors to up their game which vastly improved all luxury cars as a whole. I will be and am always honored to be part of the launch of such a great and iconic company that instilled many values to me that I practice in everyday life!

Worked in a Lexus dealership wash department in high school in 2003 and was privileged enough to drive multiple brand new models straight off the truck (in addition to hundreds of customer cars). The refreshed 2004 LS430 is what really grabbed my heart and 16 year old me promised myself I would own an 04-06 someday. Back in 2015 I bought my ‘04 LS430 with 97k miles for $15,000 and after putting over 65k miles on it, it still runs, drives, feels, and looks just like the brand new ones I drove right off the truck with 16 miles on the odometer. Even at 163k miles it’s hands down the most reliable car I’ve ever owned and I wouldn’t hesitate hopping in right now to drive 3,500 miles from OR to FL. It’s never once failed to start on me or broken down and literally *everything* still works as it should... the auto wipers, smart key, self-leveling and adaptive HID headlights, power trunk closer, all 4 heated seats and cooled front seats, power rear sunshade, etc etc etc. I’ve driven it HARD with literally thousands of full throttle hits and MANY thousands of shifts at it’s 6,200 RPM redline yet all it’s needed other than one change of the trans fluid, brake fluid, PS fluid, and oil changes every 5k miles.... is 1 oxygen sensor ($130) at 140k miles and 1 wheel bearing/hub assembly ($300) at 150k miles. The original sport suspension struts haven’t weeped a drop and soak up every road imperfection, and I still get 28mpg going 60 and 25mpg going 80. The engineering, design, material quality, build quality, and reliability of 90s-mid 2000s Lexus vehicles is simply unmatched... truly in a class of it’s own.

The previous owner had put in about $2500 into it in two years including timing belt/water pump, transmission, new calipers, rotors, brakes, bluetooth radio (knocked out the cd-changer) and new struts. I don't like the struts, they are KYB and too stiff. I took the car on an 80 mile round trip, averaged 27mpg. But in the city I'm getting about 16mpg. When I bought it the running temp was 165-170. I put in a new 180 thermostat and now it is running 185-190. I might change the struts to original Lexus (from a junk yard for $50@), but the car runs whisper quiet and smooth on a smooth road.

Wife drives a 2005 LS430 with 150,000 miles. Whenever I get to drive it, I'm always shocked by how nice it drives. It's still better than the new cars I rent. I've told my wife that it may be the last car she owns as it will easily last another 15 years. Our maintenance costs on this car have been incredibly low. Oil and filter changes...tires and brakes....two batteries....incredible car.

Scotty, this is a very nice video, thank you for posting this, I still get some crap from friends for having a Lexus, I first had a 1992 ES300 and kept that until it was 23 years old, I then purchased a 2007 LS460L and will keep that for a long time as well, I average maintenance and repairs of around $ 250 - 300 dollars a year including synthetic oil and a Toyota filter. I just got one of my best friends to buy a Lexus Hybrid and she is happy with it, her previous car was a BMW wagon from around 2002 and for the last five years every time she took it in for service it was at least $ 3000 every time and even then it left her stranded several times and then she ran out of her allotment of keys, so when her last key with the remote built in failed she was out of luck and had to set off the alarm to open the car, she then started leaving the car unlocked. I think her Lexus will be a much better fit.

I bought a 91 LS 400 with 120k miles. I had well over 500k miles on it when a guy hit me head on and totaled it. Progressive gave me a more than fair check. As far as maintenance, I had to replace the starter which was $1800 for labor and $321 for the starter. I replaced the radiator and kept the oil changed and it took care of me until it was totaled. By far the best car I've ever owned.

I purchased my first Lexus in 2001 I was RX 300 withFront wheel drive. It lasted 263K miles over 15 years with only one major issue a transmission failure at 180K. We had a factory replacement installed and only traded the vehicle when the cost of replacing the brake system (rotors, calipers, etc ) exceeded the vehicle value. Second one was purchased in 2008 RX 350 it was totaled with over 80K miles but saved our lives Never had any issues. We are owners of our third Lexus a 2017 RX 350 which currently has 40K MILES AND GOING STRONG without with it any issues. Just normal maintenance was given to all the vehicles we have owned. Second place on reliable vehicles was our 1994 Camry XLE which cranked over 300K miles before Mother Nature cause rust as the vehicle was in the Great state of Vermont for a few years. Just my personal observation on quality of the Toyota/Lexus brands.

Thank you, Scottie, for confirming my original opinion on Lexus back in 1992. The way I described Toyota's success was this: Toyota offered the consumer 2 to 2.5 Lexus 250 for roughly the same price as you pay for a Mercedes 250 to 350 models. I said this is genius as a cost analysis when you compared them to the other luxury autos available in the market back then. I still feel they are the standard since Toyota no longer makes the Cressida or Crown edition vehicle. Like you, I am very partial towards Mazda. I bought a 626 2 dr. coup and fell immediately in love with how well she handled and at how quickly she accelerated for such a small engine. I also liked the 4-speed manual it came with. I agree that they could become the leading performance car producer now that they are financially independent again and have their shared interest with Ford and Toyota!
