Prob the strongest start to a suspect test run video: opened up mid-Gouging Fire sweep. 🤣 Also to give a bit more context behind the suspect test, in a recent tiering survey sent to OLT qualifiers, Gouging Fire was by far the mon most supported for a suspect test at 4.5/5, which is the highest among any suspect this generation. For reference, Kyurem sat at around the 3.5-4 range. It also received the most amount of support among the tiering council as well.

I think kyurem Zaman and waterpon are all too one note to be a massive issue. kyu sub protect is definitely extremely frustrating but there are set counters for all those mons. To be fair most of the people Joey was playing against are low ladder with an occasional Suspect Ladder grinder. The first game aim played had mostly RU mons and didn’t take advantage of oricorro’s dancer ability. But even then I don’t find comment sections beneath aim’s and blunder’s comment sections to be particularly understanding of how smogon works or the meta. I don’t and you don’t see me saying whether or not gouging should be banned.

gouge should be banned, its presence warrants you to bring a bulky physdef mon or else you're gonna have a hard time dealing with +atk proto and +1, +1 from ddance plus its longevity in its good hp AND morning sun make it hard to take down, for much less effort from the attacker's side just my opinion tho, might have lots of holes and bias in it but i think a suspect test is justified, since gouge has gotten away with a lot, but it still has some nuance to its gameplay. however, banning gouge will see a reduction in physdefs like garg, or tusk, who are bulky enough to tank +1, +2 and force a switch from gouge. feel free to post counter-arguments, since you may have a different play experience with gouge compared to me.

@@hideharu-xiii8852 physdef primarina isnt a set, prim either loses to gouge by taking too much damage from offensive gouge sets (+1 attack booster heat crash 2hkos) or being too weak offensively to stop a morning sun gouge (physdef prim is setup fodder for bulkier gouge sets) .Also most phys def water mons are setup fodder unless they run specific niche sets, like tickle alomamola being needed which takes up the moveslot of scald. tera ground eq sets can straight up ohko pex and breaking swipe sets can beat dozo. Recently tera dragon attack booster outrage has also been used which can break through dozo offensively. There reallly isnt a consistent counter to all gouge sets, if you get unlucky and the opponents set is good into you, you just lose.

I don't really feel it as broken as rai, kyurem or wellspring, even while tryig to get reqs(close to getting it) And it's not like a built a team to specifically beat it, i feel it's not really an issue in the builder and even less of an issue dynamically As opposed to even sqmurott-H. You have to go well out of your way to account for it and often still will struggle if you prep for the wrong set. It’s far too diverse in how it can be run and it’s proven to be able to constantly get around supposed counter play. Kyurem isn’t exactly fun to face and you’ll find a fair amount of people wouldn’t miss it if it were banned, but it’s behind gouging

Gouging Fire isn’t more broken than Kingambit or Garganacle. It’s literally countered by Roar Moltres, Roar Zama, Gargancle, and a bunch of other mond

Garg isn’t broken at all, and Kingambit has plenty of counter play. Roar Molt and Zama lose to Dragon Dance sets with Dragon Tail or Roar, and for that matter so does non fairy Garg.

What made this more suspect worthy than demons like Zama/Kyurem?

It had a higher suspect rating than them (For context, Kyurem got a 3.5/5 for a suspect test, meanwhile, Gouging Fire got a 4.5/5.) That meant it had a higher suspect priority than everything else. As Joey also mentioned, a lot of it's old counterplay has changed, and with all the different variants and sets it has (Which IS impressive since it uses a mixture of similar moves on these sets), it's hard to tell which set you'll face on team preview, and recently, a Dragon Dance/Roar set has completely derailed some old reliable counterplay to Gouging Fire, and flipped the matchup with phazers like Zamazenta on their head. Tera Poison/Ghost/Fairy are just great defensive types for it, and the old Tera Fire set in Sun is still scary. Apparently the reason it got truly suspected now is because in tournament, A Tera Dragon Outrage set was making waves in their division, and was pretty tough to deal with.
