Did you live through the 1970s. Unions shop stewards ruled the roost. If they disliked you and took away your union card you could not work anywhere, drive a lorry turn up to the docks or Ford etc, no union card and they would not unload you. Strike vote in car park, shop stewards and his mate stood on a trailer asking for a show of hands to strike, his bully boy mates going through the crowd giving you a dig in the ribs if you did not stick your hands up. If you did not live through the 1970s you have no clue as to how dangerous people like this are. I hope they relive the 70s. Massive strikes, flying pickets and secondary picketing etc. Working class culture for NOVARO means public sector workers on £60k per annum, not the minimum wage workers getting abused and used by everyone.

@@JohnJones-k9d That is one of the problems with Unions. It attracts dangerous dominant types into positions of power. They produce nothing but have power simply based on the the moral argument of their position. It is very similar to the power of religious organisations. They too produce nothing but have power simply based on the the moral argument of their position. But overall the benefits they offer to the working-class and the poor outways their flaws. You make a valid point of how corrupt they can be. But they can be of great help to the working poor.

4:45 Truth. Most people don't know how to organize because 1) it's been beaten out of us as a society as popular movements get demoralized and squashed, 2) we still hold onto the Aristotlean belief that we need special people ("the best people") to lead the rabble, and 3) people have become so atomized and our time controlled by capitalism that even socializing proves to be a difficult task. Socializing is part of organizing. For real long-term movements, organizing is just socializing with a central forcus. For political organizing to give the people more power, democracy and its principles should be the focus instead of specific policies or this or that politician/party. If you want to start organizing but don't know how, there are 4 links in my profile to get you started.

One of the biggest issues to divide the country in the past 10 years, which he and his union supported, is Brexit. Meanwhile Mick clings to his EU passport, which he is entitled to hold through his Irish parents. Some on the left are against the EU which they consider too centre right. However, I worked in the public sector in the 1980’s during Thatcher’s privatisations. It was the EU that saved workers terms and conditions with the TUPE regulations. Brexit has always been a far right project, and people like Mick Lynch should have realised that.

If you think that's all you can do, then what do you expect? If that's all you ask for this is what you'll get. Nobody is saying you have to be a full-time activist, but until you realise that the personal is political, commit to acting personally to change things for the better, and acting in your local community nothing will change. Even if it's just finding out what's going on in your community and something to change things amongst your family, friends, neighbours, and fellow citizens, very little will change, and you'll relying on people you don't know to do everything you want. Anything else won't work. Waiting for change from the top down is like stand under an apple tree with your mouth open expecting the fruit to fall into your mouth. Fallen fruit is always bruised or rotting, or misses your mouth altogether If you walk around the tree and select a good, ripe fruit then pick it, you'll have more success. Likewise, the more you are active in your cimmunity, the more you study, discuss, and look at what you want, the better choices you'll make. And more people did that, and worked together, few would go hungry. Neoliberalism atomised us, as we had forgotten that even collective action needs to evolve it's knowledge and perspective beyond mere self-interest. What is achieved has to be sustainable and focused on the long term, and not just the short term. And it has to be rooted in the local. That means as well as working to get your community working together, you look for taking more control over what's happening to you. To bring back power from a distant centre to the local. Are you prepared to do that? Because that's how the centre will begin to notice you. When you start asking, rather than waiting for something to appear. When you start acting like your vote matters, and start demanding answers instead of just expecting. Unity is Strength. That's why this country is stagnating. We're no longer unified but atomised and myopic. Work together, or hang separately. And be prepared for slow, tedious, and sometimes frustrating effort, but for it to pay off in time if you keep at it.
