Once proportional representation has been established feel free to do that. Until then all you'd achieve is splitting the left of centre vote and letting Truss win the General Election. @@johnm2012 I fully understand the logic and pragmatism of what you are saying. However, Keir Starmer continues at pace to expel all dissenters from the Labour party and won't even support the unions who are only standing up to achieve fairness for their members who have been screwed for the past decade. I don't want to see the Tories replaced by another right wing government that happens to be called Labour. I am an idealist, but I believe an opposition party should be exactly that, an antidote to the current situation. The chance for real change. If that makes them unelectable, then perhaps the electorate haven't suffered enough yet.

@@bigmoose1961 I used to be an idealist. I'm old enough now to realise that idealism is just a dream. I just want a non-Tory government and proportional representation. Once that's achieved I don't really care what happens to the Labour party. It can split in two if it wants to - I'll leave that to the idealists to decide. The point is that on issues that really matter to the country they'll probably agree anyway. Well said Mr. Lynch. Since the 1970s power has shifted from workers to shareholders, the obsession with creating shareholder value has given us a rentier economy where if you’re lucky enough to own property and shares you have disposable income to burn without having to worry about wages. We need to start taxing wealth, not income. The UK is unique amongst rich countries in not having an ownership tax, a tax where those who own property in places like Kensington for example pay a much higher tax than someone living in say Blackburn where property is much cheaper. This is a tax that cannot be avoided by the rich who normally find a way around paying it through clever accounting and offshoring.
